Yeah, no value for Kreider and Buch once the first round was over. Deal them for massive hauls in season.
No, please don’t. I don’t like the feel of Kreiders walk year, especially waiting to be traded. Don’t want another Zucc season, where he’s unhappy sulky and teams are scared to put in a fair offer, and then gorts and Kreider have to wait all season for a legit offer to be made
Sign him or trade him during the summer

Riley Hughes 2.0

I hope so. I'd have loved to have gotten Donovan, Faranacci, Malone, Pinto etc earlier.

Big RH shooting kids who are a little raw and are going the collegiate route. If one of those players pans out, then you have a great top 9 player from a lower tier draft pick.

These aren't common assets either, RH shooting centers that can play in the middle or a RH shooting RW are valuable assets, and less common these days, especially during their cost controlled years.

Ristolainen seems so lost in his own zone.
Zegras for 2 2nds,3rd,4th,5 th,6 th and 7th doesn't seem outlandish to me faceless. Quality over quantity

That is not even close to fair value and there is no way that Anaheim accepts that.

And you're literally offering pure quantity for a top prospect...so I don't even understand that second statement.

IMO, Matthew Robertson (taken 49th) is underrated.

Lots of good details there---Agile and fast-improving skating,
intelligence, defensive prowess. size, strength and reach.

Probably never score more than 20-30 pts in a season, max.

But he could turn out to be a shutdown D-man of consequence.

Best case scenario: Willie Mitchell. (seriously)

I predict he will be the Rangers' sleeper of this draft.

Miller’s inclusion always made that trade poor value to me and today’s deal basically cements that.
How was that a good deal today?

Miller last year was a RFA to be seeking a contract
Miller today has 5 yrs @ 5.25. That’s 5 years of serve and whos kidding who, all maturity issues aside, he’s a bull of a player when he wants to be.

What don’t you guys see. Vancouver paid a 1st rounder that is protected up to slot 14-15 next year and if it’s 2021 it’s unprotected.

For 5 seasons of a 45-60 point player. He’s perfect for pettersson. Keep guys honest.

I think the board is way off with how much Vancouver overpaid

Summer then. Not really interested in a 7 year Kreider deal.

I wonder if a year or two of doing the Ricky Williams trade (an NFL team basically did just that, traded their whole draft for one top pick) would put you ahead of the curve with college free agents, since they'd have less competition in the organization.

50 contract limit is probably why no one in the NHL would ever accept it.

Looks like we went into the draft with a heavily strategic emphasis on replenishing our stockpile of Chads.

Keep Kreider. Could still move out Vesey and/or Names. Sign Panarin. Re-evaluate Kreider situation as the season goes on.

You can't sign Panarin and Keep Kreider.

We don't have space for Panarin+Kreider+Trouba+RFA's+Kakko (with out even getting into Fox or Kravstov) by just simply dumping Vesey and Namesnikov and buying out Shattenkirk.

Bonus overages are a thing and if you sign Kreider, you're going to f*** yourself over if you need to roll them over. Lets not do that.

In fact, Panarin+Trouba+RFA's+Kakko would be hard enough to fill in if you move Kreider+Vesey, buy smith and Buy out Shattenkirk.

The draft went as we could have hoped outside of the trades we were looking at.

At this point, based on what Edge has said in the past, Buch trade scenarios are likely dead. He was the chip to move into 7th or 8th. Those teams had to decide if they wanted to take someone that could put up between 50-60 points with McDavid/Eichel now or in 3-4 years. They punted on those and kept the prospects.

Kreider is for sure still out there. The teams in on him (Arizona/Colorado) still have other young assets to make moves. Former top 10 picks, prospects, etc that we can still use. Arizona has a hard time with UFAs, but the new owner coming in has money and they will have more financial flexibility. We'll see if he's on the move there.

Vesey seems more like someone that would be sent to a team like Buffalo. Struggles to attach UFA players and could be a spot to re-sign a guy. Hopefully that is still a thing.

Still think both Vesey and Kreider are gone, Buch now stays.

Summer then. Not really interested in a 7 year Kreider deal.
Me neither really. That takes him to 36. The only guys getting contracts extending through those years are superstars and teams who are trying to bring a UFA into the organization. If gorts wanted kreider long term, he would have been signed already. Last summer or during the season to avoid kreider getting more $ during a July 1 frenzy

I like the first 2 picks but the rest of the draft seem like stretches. We will see in a few years but I personally would trade everyone after kappa for zegras or boldy

Such a ridiculous statement. So you trade a few late round pick for a top 10 pick. Would you also trade Brinkley and Nieves for McDavid.

People act like other teams don’t know these players are good and Gorton just choose to not take their picks

Glad we kept Buch after all is said and done... getting a 2020 1st for CK might be preferable considering how deep that draft seems like it might be.

I’m at about 95% happy. Only my frustration is with the dysfunction that Edmonton preventing the Rangers from trading up for Zegras has tamped down my enthusiasm. Imagine adding Zegras to what transpired today.
Going to go with solid draft after Kakko. Clearly having him makes the draft a home run, but I think we should examine it after him.

Gorton said that they would address the defense. And they did. At this point the pipeline looks full. Was hoping for a Nikolaev or a Grewe in the second, but they got good value. Dorofeyev would have been nice. The one thing that I did not love was, and this is after Kakko, not enough size or attitude. But overall, I cannot say that they were not getting good value when they could.

Maybe your right but that's 7 for 1 and I'm sure that every teams scouting department believes that they can find the hidden gem. Remember the Ricky Williams NFL trade and everyone believed that New Orleans paid way too much

Yea but this trade would never be accepted in the NHL. In the NFL, you are getting legit starters in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Not to mention that there is no minor leagues, so they are being drafted straight into the league. In the NHL, you have a huge drop-off after the top 10 in regards to likelihood they will even make the NHL and then an enormous drop off after the first round.

So trading the 8OA for picks from rounds 2-7 will leave you with more players, but overall, you might actually still be less likely to develop an NHL player than with the single prospect from 8OA.
