I saw a bunch of LOLJets articles about cutting Polite. The one on Deadspin by Billy Haisley, who usually only writes terrible articles about soccer, was the worst.

And then no one claims Polite on waivers, showing what the other talents evaluators around the league thought about him.

He did land on Seattle's practice squad, but c'mon, the guy was awful.

the LOLJets part isn't about cutting him its about drafting him in the first place

why did the dolphins bother to trade for rosen if they are gonna go into full tank mode for tau?

LOL imagine being drafted then getting fined more than pro earnings.

Agreed re: Polite. I thought, even though he sucked, they'd keep him around. Douglas doesn't seem like the type of guy to cut a player just because it wasn't his pick or sign, so Polite must have been really unimpressive.

Well at least we know now the real reason he was cut and not given a chance to break camp with the team. There's a new sheriff in town and his name is Joe Douglass and don't f*** with him or else....lol.

In all seriousness, now that we know that Polite was screwing up off the field as well as on the field to the tune of over $100 large, tho it's tempting on one hand to give the guy a little bit more time to get his shit together, on the other, I like the message that this cutting of Polite sends and that is everyone is accountable and if they f*** around and don't do their jobs, they are gone.

For way too long, it's been a circus inside the Jet locker room. Well finally we got a regime that is changing the culture and it's for the good and it will eventually help the win loss record once we plug some of the holes we have in secondary and at linebacker.

at the time it was looked at as a decent gamble in the 3rd round for him. Who knew he was going to stink up the joint so hard. But he was a young, high ceiling boom or bust prospect which was a lot more inspiring than drafting a low ceiling 25 year old from DIII or a blocking TE. I just wish we would have taken Josh Allen at 3rd overall so we wouldn't have to make these desperation swings for legitimate outisde pass rushers.

Yeah I liked the pick at the time. I mean, why not? High upside guy who admittedly f***ed up at the combine and in interviews. But legitimate production in the SEC, at a position we need. Some people had him graded out higher, some lower, some not on the board. He was all over the place so opinions were split. Seemed like a worthwhile gamble.

Instead he came and put in no effort whatsoever and was late to meetings and couldn't even generate a QB hit playing against third- and fourth-stringers. So f*** him. I guess you can, in retrospect, fault Maccagnan for getting snookered, but at the time I think most people acknowledged it as a calculated risk. And even those that didn't like it because of the concerns about the person still generally acknowledged that if he turned it around he could be a very good player. I don't recall anyone outright trashing the move immediately after the fact, so to do so now is disingenuous.

Josh Adams to the PS. Was good for the Eagles late last season. Surprised he went unclaimed, but he's good insurance on Powell.

Guess we're going into week 1 with our current CBs. Hopefully we get home more than we usually do. Also, Allen can run effectively.

Greg Dortch to the PS. This makes me happy. He looked like he could be a great return man. Problem for him is he didn't have the skills to contribute as a receiver and he could play on the other side of special teams. Hopefully he rounds out and gets a call this year.

Day 1 talent, Day 3 head.

From what I saw of Dortch, I like him as well and thought he was our guy to replace Roberts. Apparently Douglass thought differently hence the pickup of Berrios who from what I've read about him was a good punt returner in college so I'll defer to Douglass's eval of the situation.

Here's the way I look at it. I don't know about you or others in here but I truly trust that Douglass knows what he's doing. I have supreme confidence that his evaluation skills will blow away the eval skills of Mac which really isn't saying alot but you know what I mean.

He can't fully fix what our biggest need is which is the secondary because he simply didn't get the GM gig with enough time to do what he'll eventually be able to do after the season. Right this moment IMO, the offense is ahead of the defense and if we are going to win games, it's going to be high scoring affairs. We are talking 31-28....28-24 type of games and so long as we are all prepared for our defense to get torched by good QB's, we should not be dissapointed in the season that we are likely to have and we should actually be exciting to watch...imagine that...a Jet team that is exciting to watch....lol

I'm thinking we should be able to go 8-8 at minimum and if we can somehow someway get thru the first 7 games of our schedule which is absolutely brutal in the 3-4 vicinity, we just might be able to get to 9-7 and maybe if everything broke right 10-6 and flirt with a WC spot seeing the 2nd half of our schedule is very manageable.

This year to me is gravy as I truly believe that next year after Douglass has the time to address in particularly the secondary and any other possible weaknesses that he sees, is when we can make a long playoff run. I kind of feel with Douglass like I do with Gorton when he came on board and that everything is going to be fine as we finally have a competent GM who knows what to do and I know for me, it gives me great confidence that the Jets are headed in the right direction for the first time since Parcells was the one going shopping 20 years ago....

My understanding with Berrios vs Dortch is that they think Berrios is more refined as a receiver, at this point. Dortch, really all he has demonstrated is the ability to return punts. Unless you're Devin Hester or Dante Hall or someone, it's tough to justify an existence based solely on your ability to return a punt (and those guys, as well as like Desmond Howard and Brian Mitchell, all could do other things). So they keep Dortch on the practice squad and let him develop his route running and expand the route tree, and hope that he can become at least a worthwhile 4 or 5 WR. Andre Roberts was awesome with the kicks, but even he was at one point a fairly accomplished receiver. Too few roster spots to have a guy who is just a PR.

God I cannot wait for football to start. Even though the Jets im sure will disappoint me (read: lose to Buffalo in week 1), it will at least keep occupied for the next few weeks until the Rangers are back. After one of the most exciting May - June - July i can remember, August has been absolutely BRUTAL as far as NHL news/excitement goes.

6 year $90M deal for Zeke with ~half guaranteed

Now, I really hope they give into Dak's $40M demands because I think he's drastically overrated.
