If we have Nurse, Klefbom, Larsson and a new dman, then you likely run into problems in the expansion draft unless the guy they are getting is on a elc and is ready for the nhl. But that runs the risk of Reinhart 2.0.

As for the draft, to me it's wide open. Smith at 10? I wouldn't be shocked if he's not even available at 10... or falls to 15. Boqvist, Wahlstrom, Bouchard, Dobson, Hughes... all good choices.

Trading down? Pretty leery of it, but I guess it depends how the top 9 shakes down.

Trading away outright? Really not a fan of this option, although if it truly makes the team better, I guess I could live with it. I already don't like the fact that the Oilers only have six picks in this draft.

dont see it happening. There is no top 9 team that will reach for Ty Smith while having so many better options.
I doubt the islanders pick him either. chances of Smith falling to 15-20 range is higher than him going in top 9.

Seriously, if we are paying like 10th overall and Jones for Parayko, there should be NO ONE here complaining about it. We got ourselves our Top 2-4 Right-Handed Dman who has a great contract for the next 3 years and can play the PP very easily. I'm all for a trade like this. If it's a better prospect than Jones, I'd probably not consider it.

The expansion draft is 2 years away at least. Not worth worrying about yet.

Yup. It's either

a) A bad ELC return like Honka

b) A panic move to clear cap if we somehow get a legit return. Remember Eberle and Pouliot and our mountain of cap space? And the bizarre Gryba buyout? What happens if he's genuinely forced to trade someone?

c) An overpayment like Schneider, Staal and Carter

Klefbom acutally makes more sense if Chiarelli could make a good trade. He might be afraid to trade a roster player though

Coyle, Zucker, Ennis, and Niederreiter have all been mentioned in trade too. They want to dump cap and are willing to give up good players to do so.

This is so stupid... if he’s trading the pick at should be at the time of the pick when we know who is left on the board, there is a good chance of a surprise faller and unless he picks a up a stud for the pick I don’t see the rush to make the trade now.

The obvious first requirement for any trade is that it has to make sense for the Oilers.
