Back o' beyond

While I agree with others about Parayko being overrated on this board, I'd love to see him become an Oiler because I think he could flourish here, even with the fishbowl that Edmonton is.

I'm equally terrified at what Chiarelli might give up to acquire him if Chia gets into his "I want what I want and don't care what burns to the ground for it to happen!" mode.

Chia needs to be put in a Faraday Cage for a little while, at least until the sedatives kick in.

Man, if we take Ty Smith because Lucic couldn't handle the pressure...

Drafting a guy because he's "familiar with the Edmonton market" is the dumbest thing ever. These guys are young and stupid, they don't know any better. Drai probably thinks the pressure is ok because he's used to football or something.

Why did Lucic suck? It's not because Chia is moron. Or power forwards fall off a cliff. It's the pressure of the market, duh.

What have we learned from the Lucic saga? To draft and develop properly? To value homegrown guys like Hall instead running them out of town? To avoid mercenary free agents who just want to fleece the Oilers? Nope. We need more good ole Alberta boys at all cost.

Those that are low on Smith typically are bagging on two things - lack of strength/physicality in his own zone and his shot isn’t great. Both of those things can be taught and worked on. He’s got a great brain and skates very well - very cerebral player
Defenders with bad shots often struggle to adapt their offense to the NHL level and his defense is nothing to be excited about so what you have is a good potential prospect that is a long ways away from being an nhl guy. Full run in June or than probably 2 years in the AHL. Same path as Bear except Bear has a great shot

Lol wtf.

A top end 19 year old prospect (strong 4th OA), this years solid 10 OA pick, AND an UNPROTECTED first rounder the following year.

Isnt Parayko's career high 36 points?

I really really like Parayko but thats nuts. Parayko could easily become the next Harmonic. You dont back the truck up for him. Not that I want Karlsson but I can guarantee you that offer gets Karlsson out of Ott no problem.

Not that any of that makes sense because we would have too much salary tied up on too many defense with only Nurse and Klefbom being able to be moved....

Terrible trade proposal in every way.

^^^^^^ this is what scares me also!

I imagine this will all be just wetting the appetite for his eventual homecoming in a few years.

As long as McDavid and Draisatil are here after, I think I'm okay most 10 + (blank) trades that could be proposed.

I think I will be very disappointed if we don't see at least 1 trade today from the Oilers, even if it's a small one. Chia sounded pretty confident in his voice at the presser yesterday that he has had a few deals on the table and it seems like he'd be willing to pull the trigger on at least 1 of them. I'll also be disappointed if we draft a player who isn't even in the Top 10. We need to draft BPA everytime. No matter what.

I dont think he sounded confident at all. Sounded like he was confident about trades existing but didnt sound like he liked them

That’s exactly what he gets now, with exceedingly mediocre results.

I’m ok with picking up Faulk but I am very not OK with moving a premium asset to do so. He’s a reclamation project.

I understand he's questionable on the defensive side of the puck, but he does bring an offensive game that we are currently lacking in a big way. I still think something around Lucic for Faulk could be a possibility (assuming Lucic would waive).

It sounded, and this makes the most sense, like teams are waiting to see who falls in the top 10. There are 2 locks (Dahlin and Svetchnikov), 1 pretty much lock (Zadina), and then a handful of guys whose position in the draft remains a question mark.

When you start hearing that MTL may pick Kotkanieni 3rd, you start to wonder if there is going to be a steal that slinks down to 10. (For the record, I think MTL takes Zadina.)

But if you're a team well outside of the top 10, but really like one of the guys in the "toss-up" group, why not wait to see if he's there before making the trade. This is how the trade landscape looks right now, and it makes total sense. A trade won't happen until the draft is underway, I think. There may be deals in principle already negotiated, but the deal would be contingent on a certain player still being around at the 10 spot.
