"The Los Angeles Kings have won their first division title since 1991"

"The Los Angeles Kings have fired Bruce Boudreau with 1 game left. Sources say he violated the pre-game meal clause in his contract by going back for seconds."

Just gotta get creative. Let Boudreau coach through game 82, let Sutter take over after.

That's good to hear. Wasn't sold on bringing back any of the coaches to begin with. If it happens so be it, but I'd rather they bring in someone who isn't ingrained in the all defense, no offense approach. I mean , it's not like these guys will completely forget how to play defense if Steven isn't the guy.

I like Kypreos on Hockey Central, but was sure glad that the Kings didn't look to Patty Roy. would have been a horrible choice.

Although the melt downs from Quick and Roy would be entertaining. Pretty similar personalities in the net and I enjoy Quick's fiery side from a team that seems to lack any sort of emotion. At the very least I know if somebody comes through the crease and makes contact with Quick there will be an immediate response (from Quick, not any of the skaters).

Is Jake Muzzin Available

As Sportsnet proved a few posts up, nobody really knows what is going on right now (ie new management). If I had my way, it would be A-Mart that is available. For a young cost controlled forward.

A lot depends on how much hope the team has in Forbort, LaDue and Gravel all taking the next step next season and earning more ice time.

The last time they made a decision like that was when Voynov proved that he could play and produce in the NHL. His readiness enabled the team to trade Jack Johnson for Jeff Carter.

The Kings may hold out and wait to see exactly what their young dmen can do in the first half of the season before they pull the trigger and trade one of Muzzin or Martinez.

The assumption is that the Kings may likely lose McNabb in the expansion draft, which may just force the team to not trade a defenseman as of this moment.

Lot of things for the new staff to consider, and I'm sure they're thinking of these concerns as well. They are addressing the fact that they need to find ways to score without sacrificing defense.

Not really, would need to be someone on an ELC. Plus Muzzin is on a steal of a contract. TO would need to add a bit, but I don't think there's a deal to be made.

I'm not holding my breath, but if Voynov were to come back that would be a game-changer. Suddenly you can trade Muzzin for a pretty good winger or even a center since Carter could always switch to wing and you would not miss a beat on defense while greatly improving the top six.

I think the Kings are going to make a serious run at Duchene this summer, Landeskog was more of a Lombardi player and that is why the Kings were so heavy after him at the time. I think Blake and Luc are looking to add someone more like Duchene. As always money will be tight, a lot will depend on what happens with Greene and if he is injured enough for LTIR, or if by some miracle they get someone to take on Brown or Gaborik, but that is very unlikely.

It's easy to see why some might be concerned about the Robitaille / Blake regime.

The Kings tied an interesting record when they promoted Blake to general manager. This was the third time that Los Angeles has asked a player whose number they've retired to GM. This matches Detroit, which has 40 years more history than LA.

Here's the complete list of retired numbers/GMs:

Boston (Milt Schmidt)
Carolina (Ron Francis)
Colorado (Joe Sakic)
Detroit (Sid Abel, Alex Delvecchio, Ted Lindsay)
Los Angeles (Rogie Vachon, Dave Taylor, Rob Blake)
Montreal (Serge Savard, Bob Gainey)
Philadelphia (Bobby Clarke)
Toronto (Hap Day)
