What are the contract ramifications if we do bring up Nemec?

Like what's the down side?
We’d just need to put someone like Markstrom on IR in order to open up a roster spot and Nemec’s salary would eat into our already limited cap space, though he would be sent back down ahead of 4 Nations (along with Daws) so the team can continue to accrue as much cap space as possible.

I hope Seigs is ok and that it’s not serious . If he’s out for 2-3 months , hopefully long term injury reserve would help us get someone we need via trade and cap room

Hmmmmm n if Siegs is truly out for months? He'd be a better candidate for that then

Siegs should be back in time for the playoffs if that's the case and barring that the Devils actually make the playoffs. This is a chance for Nemec/Misyul/Hatakka to hopefully shine. We need some more offense from the back end so hopefully Nemec gets the call. It's big that we will still have Pesce/Dillon/Kovacevic to handle the hard minutes and primary PK duties. Just need our call up to handle a 3rd pairing role, nothing too crazy.

I mean it has to be Nemec if it’s anything long term or I think you’re cooking that relationship. He’s already voiced his unhappiness, he’s on a heater and been playing all season. Inserting Hatakka with no games seems like even more of an insult to Nemec to me.

Yes you have to be creative with handedness but Pesce has played over there and he did a lot for Luke so maybe pairing him up with Nemec would be a good move.

I’m actually excited for another step for Luke I would hope he gets the PK minutes left over before Hamilton and the call up. He can be that all around defender.

You had to figure he’d be in for Saad since he was a FA target a couple years ago

Yeah, I had no doubt Fitz was pushing hard for Saad but can understand why he ultimately went with Vegas.

Really doesn't make much sense for NJ to make any moves until very close to the TDL. Not like we're looking to pluck a premium player off the market - more about getting bottom 6 forwards, of which more should be available closer to the deadline as teams figure out if they're buyers or sellers.

Devils will also have the most cap space available at that point and potentially put Siegs on LTIR to maximize cap space if his injury is long-term as rumored. I also know it's a game of chicken making deals so close to the trade deadline, but there's often good values there for teams that wait it out as we've seen in the past when the Devils were sellers and got some underwhelming returns on pending UFA's.

I think if Haula is back, Meier is on the 3rd line and Cotter on the 4th, then a top 6 LW is our biggest "need" amongst fwds.

Depending on how long Sieg's is out, a defense first LD might be the prime target.

I think I had a nightmare where Colton White was called up from Utica,

Can't put in Hatakka without any game conditioning. I'll go with:
Pesce-Hamilton
Hughes-Kovacevic
Dillon-Nemec
Why break up working pairs?

I don't think Kovacevic can cover for Luke's excursions. I think Pesce and Hamilton together aren't mobile enough.

Did you choose this bc Pesce can play both sides and we'd need one if Nemec/Kovacevic to switch and play offside handedness?

Thinking more about it, the best actual all around lineup moving forward until Siegs is back is probably:

Luke-Dougie
Pesce-Nemec
Dillon-Kovacevic

Would be a good excuse to try Dougie without the Dillon anchor

Funny how Dougie is a liability out there with everyone but Dillon and you use 'anchor' as a negative.

The pairs above make sense if it is all offense your after, but I think Allen would be exposed and we'd watch our SV% and goals against skyrocket.

Losing Siegs is going to hurt anyway, but I don't see the point of breaking up working pairs.

I think people greatly underestimate how terrific our defense's stability has been this year. No doubt Keefe and the forwards (Jack and Bratt particularly) deserve kudos, but blowing up the Luke/Pesce and Dillon/Hamilton combos seems extra risky, especially since it hasnt been like Luke/Dougie * haven't * been activating liberally. They just haven't been finishing due to luck and maybe too much hesitation to shoot the puck in good situations.

Not sure what working pairs you're referring to, but at least to start last game, Luke and Kovacevic were playing together. Obviously losing Siegs as early as we did forced Luke and Dillon to shoulder a crazy load afterwards and lead to pair rotation, but that has been the pairing we've deployed the past few games.

As @SteveCangialosi123 pointed out yesterday, Pesce and Dougie played as a pair together in Carolina in the past. Results were pretty positive, but of course, that was some time ago. Still, it's good that there's familiarity there. I'd personally prefer putting the most senior guys in Pesce and Dougie in that position of one playing on their off side as opposed to Kovacevic or Nemec.

Weekes earlier on a broadcast mentiond Joshua Mahura as a possible depth target for D. Left handed shot. UFA at 775k. I wonder if separately from Nemec recall if Fitz is looking for a minor depth d replacement via trade.
