I am on episode 3 and Pearl Islands is pure gold.

It is sinking in just how much harder these guys had it at the end of the game. They've chopped all the game play that came at the final 4 for a fire challenge that lasts all of 10 minutes. For an era that literally gloats about 4 people voting on like day 7 because "Smöl TR1BE DyNAMiC!!" it is astonishing to me that it just completely punts the ball when there's actually 4 people left

Jeff. If you're reading this. Final 4 is the last vote. Last immunity challenge determines who goes to the end. Fire challenge is the final 3 deadlock. We can't keep doing this mate.

Jeff is just so far up his own ass at this point its lost.

Hes just so cringey man, and is so defensive anytime someone challenges him on one of his ideas.

About halfway through a Pearl Islands watch through. Ryno and Savage are probably the best quality stock in terms of having strong guys on your team that you can get. But holy crap they might be the worst team at catching fish that Survivor has ever had. It just makes Rupert look even more like the unicorn people want to pretend Boston Rob is

Jon is an all time heel. Would have loved him on Hv

Edit: Ryno is a textbook, quality strategist for courting Burton to eat the 4 other Drakes after Savage got voted off. It's a damn shame Lil wouldn't budge. That old Morgan tribe karma really bit them.

I had forgotten how telegraphed these old seasons were. Save for rare instances like Samoa and Tocantins, the majority alliance just ate the other. If there's any strength in the new era, it's that the pagongings are over

It's only been 20 minutes and Samoa is already so unbelievably racist and sexist. And Russell lying about his dog dying during hurricane Katrina. Hoooolllllyyyyyyy shit lmao.

Also shout out to Boston Rob for literally just copying Russell's dumbass girl strategy in a game where he couldn't be voted out unless he failed at games literally tailor made for him on Redemption Island.

f***in looooove Pearl Islands!

I feel the most commonly mentioned greatest seasons of all time are Pearl Islands, Heroes vs Villains and David vs Goliath. My only knock on Pearl Islands is I hate battlebacks, so I don't like the outcast twist, but it's still an absolutely unreal season.

The outcasts was a good twist even for its day because it hadn't been seen before. But it holds up today because it was 1 episode, 1 challenge, 1 tribal council. It works. Hell, the outcasts could have lost and never come back. But they won and it was amazing television. We'd have just talked about what could have been today had it not worked.

Fast forward years later you have Redemption Island with 10 minutes of tribal council followed by 15 minutes of Mario Party mini games catered to Rob/Russell and Ozzie/Coach sucking the life out of the game. You had like 25 minutes tops of normal, regular survivor. It was a make a wish program where no one tackles the sick or special child running the football on purpose. I literally turned off Rob's season with like 4 episodes left. Absolute rancid garbage.

If Survivor ever does a Pearl Islands Outcasts twist I'll run out the door screaming in joy.

I hate battlebacks in general. I feel once you are voted out, you should stay voted out. While PI is the best version of it, it's generally a design to favor comp threats/production favorites. The only show I've seen where Battlebacks work somewhat well is The Challenge, and only in unique circumstances like Dirty 30.

Watching the Samoa merge. Survivor needs to just simplify and let people freaking eat and merge. The mandatory Mergeatory twist has become exhausting to watch in comparison to this. It needs to end

How in God's name does no one even try to throw Russell's name out there at the final 5? The only logic I can think of is everyone hated him so much they figured no one would vote for him to win out of spite. That is absolutely crazy to me

I am watching Exile Island because I wanna watch Terry destroy challenges. I will literally never understand the cult of Shane Powers in the Survivor community. Dude isn't entertaining to watch. He is obnoxious and I am assuming he is still that way even without nicotrine withdrawl.

The only season he belongs on is Fiji because it was *THE* worst cast of all time and he would fit right in. Replace Gary with Shane and pretend Earl or Yau Man go to Moto. You'd have Shane, Lisi, Rocky, Dreamz, Edgardo, Mookie and Alex all on the "have not" Ravu tribe at the same time. It would be the biggest collection of f*** boiis in history AND Lisi. And I haven't even gone into how smug a lot of the women of that cast were..People have serious nerve complaining how unlikable the cast of Thailand was compared to this.

Earl and Yau Man winning were the only acceptable outcomes and had it not gone Earl's way this would probably be the worst season of all time by a very far margin

Dude there was absolutely nothing wrong with the quote "Super Idol" and it needs to be brought back. People just didn't know what to do back then. That's literally it

Beating it is easy

1. Force a tie between idol holder and 2nd choice just like Cao Boi proposed
2. Idol holder burns the idol there
3. Vote out idol holder after tie breaker in which case I think they can't play it

If you need to make it easy, bring in a nullifier. But allow the idol to be played BEFORE the vote as to avoid nullifier too

Going home with an idol in your pocket is funny but it is really dumb

It's funny but no one talks about how LaMina straight up voted for Misty anyway despite the fact she may have had the idol and no one knew for certain

Yeah this "super idol is overpowered" argument is nonsense. No one hesitated to vote for Misty or Bruce and Terry basically had his own immunity from start to finish post merge. And in Cook Islands they merged at 9 and once Penner flipped, Yul was *NEVER* going home. That *STILL* didn't stop him from catching 4 votes on the first post merge tribal council almost forcing him to play it. Tony was never going home because by the time he got the Tyler Perry idol, no one had the numbers to stop him even with a REGULAR idol

I'll say it again. Idols should be able to be played after the vote. If you're that damn worried about it, introduce nullifiers that are played DURING the vote. This of course introduces an ACTUALLY overpowered advantage almost as bad as "knowledge is power"

Not a Jets Fan, but a Genevieve fan, thought this was funny.

Just finished Survivor 35: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers.

Pretty great season altogether. Interesting enough cast and fun dynamics. Great to see so many idols and advantages played mostly correctly. Really liked the winner of that season, definitely think they deserved to win.

I wasn't aware that 35 was the season they started the final 4 firemaking challenge. Thought it was pretty corny and seemed pretty apparent that production was trying to make a certain outcome happen... I hate that they're a permanent fixture now.

Watching these pre-covid seasons makes me mad/sad, however, at how awesome Survivor used to be compared to the skeleton version we get now...

So many of the rewards they were going out and flying on helicopters and sea-planes... Getting all kinds of food rewards, 39 day marathon, idols and clues that weren't overly complicated... And most of all, family visits... I think it's such a travesty that Survivor has completely done away with the family visits, it's among my favorite moments of every season.

Genevieve was a very underrated player.

She was playing a very good game, and then kinda just lost her momentum a few votes into the merge because the stragglers that they all left in the game banded together to join Rachel, and mostly stuck with it. Usually don’t see that. There’s always the chance, but usually the stragglers because they aren’t particularly good players are easily movable. They weren’t in 47, and I felt it led to a boring ending to the season.

Feel she should definitely be back on a future season. Probably deserves it more than anyone on 47.

Please tell me someone else here is watching Deal of no Deal Island season 2.

It has Parvati, David from AU survivor and Dr. Will from big brother on it. Will just pulled some of the most ridiculous stuff this past episode that made for some of the greatest competition reality tv I've seen recently. Its been a joy to see him back on the screen after nearly 20 years and hes right back to what he was doing all those years ago, just trolling everyone.

I haven't watched it, I like the players that you mentioned. Is the show any good? I'm guessing that it's not because I haven't heard much about it.

I actually really enjoy it. Would I watch it without the big names? Maybe, maybe not, but they add a completely different element and they do a good job casting the people without any past reality tv history. They find some good characters.

I started watching the first season when it was just Boston Rob on it cause im a fairly avid RHAP listener and they originally just podcasted about the show cause of Rob but then said its still a good show/concept even without him.

Its got a good mix of everything.

I was really hype coming into this season because Will and David are up there for my favourite comp reality TV people and it hasn't disappointed so far.
