I think Voynov will be back. Lots of smoke.

Let's make a move for Kovy as well.

Kovalchuk - Kopitar - Iginla
Pearson - Carter - Toffoli
Brown - Kempe - Gaborik
Clifford - Dowd - Brod

Forbort - Doughty
Muzzin - Voynov
McNabb - Ladue

-Lewis to Vegas
-Martinez + whatever for Kovy.

Bit of a twisted path there...

4. As I understand it, these rules/scenarios are applicable if Kovalchuk wants to return to the NHL for the coming 2017-18 season.

3b. Note: Only way Kovalchuk can come off VRL is by signing with NJ. Player on VRL can't have rights traded. Thus, sign and trade is req'd.

3a. Because Kovalchuk is on VRL, NJ can't trade his rights to any team unless Kovalchuk signs with NJ first. So sign and trade possible.

2. If Kovalchuk doesn't want to return to NJ, he could sign with ANY team as long as EVERY other team in NHL signs off on it. Not a chance.

1. Kovalchuk remains property of NJD as he is on the Voluntary Retirement List (VRL) so he is free to sign with them for coming season.

Isn't Kovalchuk pretty much the same age as Gaborik?

1 yr younger, just turned 34 in April

If he's serious about returning, bodes well for the Devils.

On the other hand, would Kovalchuk want to return to the NHL to be part of a rebuilding organization or would he hope to join a more playoff-ready team? That, too, could benefit the Devils in terms of the return they might get in a potential sign-and-trade. Either way, Kovalchuk's reported interest in returning to the NHL is a good thing for the Devils.

A full season of Iggy and on the 1st line, no less, no thanks.

Personally, I don't want anything to do with Kovalchuk.

**** that, I'd rather bring back JDub.

If dealt, I'd rather see AMart + go for a cost controlled younger forward.

As much as I hate Blake personally, he has done a damn good job so far (fingers crossed) by signing college free agent prospects and hiring John Stevens as the head coach. I am on board with all of these moves.

They are low risk, high reward moves. They are also have a low probability of making a significant impact.

I was waiting for the bring back Williams bandwagon to get going.

I will be very happy to be wrong and will take all the **** I get for it if I am, but I ****ing hate this as much as I hate Blake and Robitaille in charge. You don't trade in your old car and save the ****ing wheels to put on the new one...

depends if they were BBS LM's or not.

Toffoli for Hanifin straight up.

Get Voynov back in North America.

Turn around and flip Martinez for a cost controlled RFA winger. Or possibly someone along the lines of Tyler Johnson.

Free up about 8 million dollars for a depth player and top 6 winger.

Hanifin-Doughty
Muzzin-Voynov

You keep pounding the drum for the wife beater ignoring that the NHL said if they ever even let him come back to the NHL, he would face long-term supplementary discipline.

NHL can hop off, he's already been suspended for an entire year and left the country. They're gonna suspend him another season? Absurd.
