I can hear Luc now - "You know, this guy has a Cup pedigree and is a winner. Coached Team USA, coached some of the greatest players in the game. Bylsma is a, you know, a real smart coach with a real smart hockey mind. We like to say we're, uh, all Kings, but Danny here is actually a former King. He, you know, uh, brings a pedigree that this organization really needs if we want to contend for a playoff birth."

:shakehead I can hear that as well. :shakehead

"You know he won the Jack Adams award and, uh, he's got a real solid background in L.A., and you know he's going to get the Kings back to being a contender."

Just curious, why is Bylsma considered such a disaster?

I think it's due to a number of reasons, one being how he coached the Penguins after the success they had in 2009, and how the Sabres didn't show any improvement when he was coaching there.

I don't know why his name is linked here though other than the fact that he's a former King. He was just fired today.

Pretty much because he went to Bowling Green, thus making him part of this mysterious "old boys club". Therefore, Blake is guaranteed to hire him, according to the Blake hate squad

I'm a captain of that squad and I don't think for a second that Bylsma will wind up here.

If he did though? Woah boy.

Let's hope we are pleasantly surprised by Robitaille and Blake's selection to coach the Kings.

Yeah but Luc was reading it from the notes a PR aide wrote for him.

Keep that bum as far away from LA as possible. Total failure after his lucky SC, failure as USA coach [ and throwing both Brown and Quick under the bus for their loss to Canada and Finland], failure as Buffalo coach. No F-ING Way!

Not sure if you guys care but maybe some do:

Devin Setoguchi just signed a 2 years contract with Adler Mannheim from Germany.

I realize many of you think the sky is falling, but I think the one saving grace right now is AEG ownership.

RE: The Coaching search - I would not be a fan of bringing in Bylsma. I truly believe that they need to bring someone from outside the organization to fill that role. The jury is still out on Luc/Blake, but I believe they need to be given more of a chance before we judge their efforts.

Who then? Why hasn't someone been hired? What is the hold up?

Bylsma is just too perfect for Blake to resist. He'll be a coach on the Kings at some point. Maybe HC, maybe not.

Be interested to see if Lombardi is hired as President and Futa is hired as GM. Because there goes blakes training wheels.

Futa is still under contract to the Kings, and the Kings have refused to allow other organizations to approach him in the past based on what I have read.

When I re-signed my new contract there was a window put in allowing me to advance as the contract wore out. I always requested, because that’s where I was born, to have a window for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Dean, when the Leafs called and asked for permission, allowed me to go meet with them.

Neither article provides information on how long Futa's contract runs, but he clearly has opt out clauses based on which team wants him, the position, and the amount of time he has served under the existing contract.

Who knows, maybe some of that changed with his recent promotion to Assistant GM.

Buffalo is pretty close to Toronto. Shorter commute than what some Angelinos take to work. Hell it took me 3-4 hours to drive to Santa Monica for work.
