I like Dowd's shot and his release is pretty quick, but I agree with those saying he needs to win more 50/50 pucks.

With Andreoff and Clifford getting 5-8 minutes the last 4 games I'm sure it's for both those players which makes me happy. We will be rolling 4 lines of some sort of skill

It very well could be. King would never see that little icetime under Sutter. He'd been on the ice with under a minute to go down by 1.

I'm still scratching my head over Shore being sent out as the extra man with the goalie pulled and it's been a few weeks. The reward system of ice time to players in the bottom 6 who cannot and will not produce offensively in any situation is offensive to this Kings fan. It shows how important a good Top 9 is for Sutter since he does not use set lines and has a hard on for grinders. You remove 3 of those grinders from his arsenal and he's forced to play hockey players who actually have talent which means more victories.

Or the team becomes soft and losses more games.

It boggles my mind that people think that these Kings can subtract their identity of punishing players and replace them with soft "talented" players and expect them to win more. Kings sure as heck didn't win 2 cups cause their 3rd and 4th lines were so talented. For all the crap guys like Stoll, Fraser, King, Richardson, Lewis, Clifford got, they were still useful in playing Kings hockey. Those guys ate up 10+ mins a game. While they didn't score much, they weren't fun to play against either.

Regarding Dwight King, I don't think there was a defenseman in the NHL relishing the idea Dwight King was coming in on the forecheck in the 2012 playoffs.

I would say it's a feeling which persisted through 2014. King never made big open ice hits, but he was a masher. I would define a masher as a guy like King who comes in and rubs guys off the puck using the boards.

A defenseman gets mashed into the boards by a guy like King a half dozen times or so a game, and it starts to matter by about Game 3 of a seven game series.

well i think enough time has gone i can now say that king on the roster was holding the kings back Iginla has shown what having a properly skilled player in the top 6 and on the pp can do.

Late to the King party, but lol if you think King was "holding the Kings back." King wasn't very effective this year, and I was fine with losing him (we weren't going to re-sign him), but having Budaj in net and going back to ultra-conservative defensive play to cover for him was what was "holding the Kings back" (if this year's problems can be narrowed down to any "one" thing). Getting Quick back has given the Kings their swagger back.

Kings need to recall "masher" Mersch!!! :yo:

I agree. I like that he shows the willingless at least--he gets feisty and throws some hits. But he's soft on the puck and boards as a skill concern, not an effort concern.

I don't see it happening. If anyone is recalled, it's probably Brodzinski.
I doubt they call up anyone, in these last 15 games. Hopefully, Shore
will be ready soon. If Kempe had not shown he could play, I could see
another recall, but he's shown he can play.

As for King being mentioned still, he's 0 points and -3 in 5 games with
Les Canadiens. He's not missed. He made some good contributions
to the 2012 Cup. Think he had 5 goals, 5 assists. But he has regressed
some and lost a step or 2. I'll take the 4th round pick, thanks.

Spot on analysis.

King was a great forechecker, particularly when surrounded by other talent. He was an ideal old school "checking line" LW. Not going to put up big points. But he will wear the opposition down. We saw that from 2012-2014.

But the Kings lost a lot of forward depth post-2014, and King was forced into roles in which his lack of talent/speed were exposed.

The game has also evolved since 12-14. Those heavy forechecking Kings teams changed the way the entire league played.

The bigger problem with King wasn't the 'cant catch the hittee' thing, it was he became miserable on the boards WITH the puck. He was a big absorber of contact too, like Kopitar; guys like that are a load. But he was losing puck battles left and right, too. So take away his forecheck, take away his puck possession, and all you're left with is smarts, which he does have...so he was an excellent PKer.

I DO think he'll bounce back but he has certainly fallen off since his injuries.

Unless Gravel is injured, there's no reason why Mcnabb should be back in the line up

Hello from Gundo. Via rushes, forward lines remain intact; McNabb took the first loop alongside Martinez, so he could be back in for Gravel.

Best analysis yet on King. I would add that as the game has gotten faster since 2012 and guys like King/Bieksa/McNabb etc have found themselves with diminishing roles as the game passes them by. The era of Regehr/Greene type players that pounded the opposition has slipped away. You have to move your feet, period.

Also, Blues-Kings games are usually very physical, more suited to McNabb's bruising hits than a guy who just got blasted in the head.

Nice to know that we're in on Aston-Reece per Bobby Mac.

Can he help now?

Edit: Just did some digging on his Twitter and found out he's close buddies with LaDue. Maybe that will give us a chance to land him.

The actual story:

http://www.tsn.ca/the-nhl-s-college-signing-season-begins-1.695343

The top prize in that regard is Northeastern graduating senior Zachary Aston-Reese, a 6-foot, 204-pound forward who had 31 goals and 63 points for the Huskies in 38 games this season. Pittsburgh, Edmonton, Vancouver, San Jose, Los Angeles and Detroit are among a very large group of NHL teams pursuing him, with a decision expected in the next day or so."

Re Aston-Reece, debatable. Though he's a Hobey Baker finalist and almost sure to be a player.

"Zach Aston-Reese, a senior right wing at Northeastern, has been the best player I’ve seen live this year since the first day of the season, and leads the country in points with 62 in 36 games. He leads the nation in goals (30) and is tied for sixth in assists. He has more shots on goal than all but three players in the nation. He leads the nation in unassisted goals and shorthanded goals, and he’s tied for fifth in goals at 5-on-5. Only one of his 30 goals was scored into an empty net."

Almost GPG!

Big guy, too. And his linemate? John Stevens. Yes, that's exactly what it sounds like. But he has other connections around the league...

Honestly he sounds ****ing phenomenal and it would be a total coup by DL to get an asset like that for free. I'd offer him the 'burn a year off your deal' deal if they're that high on him because there's not much more we can offer a kid from Staten Island right now.

Pray to baby Jesus we land him. He could perhaps be our Panarin

Rocky, can we compete against these clubs in purchasing his contract? Does his rights/contract count against the cap?
