There was apparently some report stating that Jagr does not intend to resign with the Panthers. The guy can still score. I doubt DL or Sutter would sign him, but if there is a change in guard, he would be a good option for a 1 year deal next year until the kids get up to speed with the NHL game. He would look great next to Kopitar and Gaborik.

Carter to the Canadiens for Sergachev, Fucale, and a 1st.

Carter to the Rangers for Buchnevich, Halverson and a 1st. Can take back Nash's last year if they want to dump his salary.

Muzzin to the Stars for Devin Shore, 1st and a prospect.

Muzzin to the Leafs for Kapanen and a 1st.

Martinez to the Panthers for Pysk and a 2nd.

Some ideas.

I think this is the issue when fans start getting too specific with trade ideas. If it then doesn't happen, people say the GM made a bad deal. Why would the Rangers trade Buchnevich, who is still on his ELC, for a 32 year old Carter? And throw in a 1st? Isn't Sergachev Montreal's top prospect? He's not even 19 yet. A 26 year old Carter got the Flyers a top 10 pick and a 3 year vet. At 32, it's now more likely Carter stops scoring than continues to score. Not saying the Kings couldn't get anything for Carter, but not sure I'd wait on them getting the top young players a team has. Same with Muzzin. Now wouldn't be the time to trade the guy, and even if he did get dealt now, it would be tough to maximize his value coming off the worst season of his career.

The problem with a trade involving Carter is that there is no market for a good trade. The only teams that would be interested in Carter are those that need that final piece to go for the stanley cup. Unfortunately, teams that are already at that stage don't have young forwards that are top first round picks.

The teams that have a good load of such young talented forwards are still in the rebuilding stages and would not be willing to trade for a 32 year old Carter.

I think its a pretty reliable bet Carter will be a force for at least another couple years that a contending team would want to go all in with.

Just spit-balling on the high end. I'd like to think I can cope when these fan-made ideas don't come to pass.

You need to look at lost foot speed if you're trying to predict a players downfall. Carter has not lost any speed, you don't see him getting beat to pucks and you do see him blow right past people when he has scoring chances. Gaborik you have seen it, Brown you see it, Richards lost 1/2 a step but he wasn't a good skater to begin with. I agree that you're not gonna see a steep decline in play from Carter, he's the one player that deserves to be rewarded rather than the Kings take a cautious approach with.

Well, he hasn't played for the Kings yet. He's played for just about everyone else, it seems.

Kopitar has 46 points, probably end up around 53-55 points for the season(if he is lucky).

14 million dollars.

Hello Kings fans!

Since I'm a Ducks fan I better bring a dove to the thread:

Anyway, I'm doing some adjustments on the rosters for my NHL 17 game. I'm currently fixing the Kings team.

Here's the 23 man roster I'm going with:

Forwards: Kopitar, Carter, Dowd, Shore, Toffoli, Pearson, Brown, Gaborik, Lewis, Iginla, Clifford, Nolan, Andreoff, Setoguchi
Defensemen: Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, Forbort, McNabb, Gravel, Greene
Goalies: Quick, Bishop

Now my question is: Based on the roster above, how should I put together the forward lines and defensive pairings to make it the most realistic?

I'm also considering LaDue and Kempe for the roster. I could make room for one with Setoguchi going to the minors (I know he was sent down irl). But for both to take a spot someone else would have to be sent down, and I'm not sure if there's any likely candidate.

Andreoff. Two assists, no goals in 33 games. He can play both wing and center, but so can Kempe. He's been our extra forward most often.

“It seems like we’re beating the dead horse every night,†Kopitar said, per LA Kings Insider. “We outshoot teams, we out-chance teams yet we’re on the other side of the winning part so bottom line it’s just not good enough. Whether that’s offensively or defensively, we’ve got to be better in both areas.â€

It’s mostly offensively. For whatever reason, the Kings have the second-worst shooting percentage (7.6) in the NHL, with only Colorado’s (7.2) being lower.

Perhaps the Kings aren’t getting enough quality shots. Perhaps they don’t have enough quality shooters.

Probably a bit of both.

But it’s something that GM Dean Lombardi will need to address this offseason — assuming he can.

Perhaps Kopitar can't take up $10m in cap space if he needs someone on his line to help him do better than barely cracking double digit goals.

Not fair to put everything on one guy, but he is now the franchise thanks to that contract. It, along with other contracts, will prevent whoever the GM is from bringing in any established help. Not that it hasn't been this way before, but this team will now sink or swim based on what he does in a given year. He can't not score. His 16 goal season? Missed the playoffs. His 11 goal season? Missed the playoffs. His 10 goal season? Well the Kings actually averaged the 2nd highest gpg since they got good again in 09-10 during the 2013 season, and were 10th overall in the league too.

It's not fair, but he's the guy.

Is it just me or does it suck that Kopitar maxed out and took 10 million knowing that if he did so Lucic was a goner. That kinda sucks. I would have taken 8-9 million knowing the difference could bring me a winger. He almost did this to himself.

Toffoli took a paycut so the Kings could make other moves, how come the same doesn't go for the team Captain?

Why would he? I would not sacrifice a million dollars of my salary just so my co-worker got a better pay day. The blame for the $10MM salary falls only on Dean Lombardi.

Kopitar hasn't needed elite linemates to produce his entire career, which is one of the reasons giving him that contract wasn't as bad as it could have been. Sure, it would be nice to give him some help, but that money was entirely predicated on him continuing to be Kopitar, same dude who can pot over 70 points with guys like Kyle ****ing Calder. I'm not saying playing with King/Lewis helped, but that's not why he struggled this year.

I know all us fans are talking about the re-tooling that needs to happen but in the short span I would not be opposed to bringing back Iginla on a one year deal. 4 goals and 1 fight in 12 games. Not bad. I was at the Blues game and he was yapping Ryan Reaves for pushing some Kings after a scrum. Iginla is a stud and always will be even at 40. I wish we had him 10 years ago, but in the 12 games is it safe to say he has been one of the best players every night???

He will turn 40 in July, so if we sign him he could still essentially retire at 40 next season before his 41st birthday.

Yeah, Kopitar doesn't owe the Kings or his teammates anything. He'll have that money long after he only sees his former teammates whenever the Kings have a Cup reunion. Nor would I use the word blame for Lombardi. At that point, he had to sign Kopitar. Do it, and you figure out the inevitable consequences later.

The last time the Oilers made the playoffs, Kopitar had yet to play a game for the Kings. Been a while.

Mmm...No. 5 vs. 5 goals for % of 29% and a Corsi for % under 50 with Kopitar. An incredible -10 in 12 games. Extrapolate that to a whole season and you'd be looking at like a -60. Safe to say he has not had a real positive impact on the team since his arrival.
