T-Birds beat the Rockets in Kelowna, 2-1 and take a 2-1 lead in game 3. Kolesar (CLB pick) scored both goals. Barzal, Gropp, Ottenbreit (Attended our training camp last year) had the assists.

Regina lost 2-1 to Lethbridge, Zboro ended the game with a +1 while former Tips-captain Dawson Leedahl scored the lone goal for the Pats.

They lost 3-1. Sorry to nitpick...I can't help it. :dunno:

Not sure if anyone was keeping up with the SHL/Allsvenskan relegation tournament, but this is what I found based on their websites....

- Mora was promoted to the SHL, while Leksands got relegated to Allsvenskan. Rogle was saved in relegation and will continue in the SHL.

- In the Allsvenskan, Vasteras and Sodertalje were placed in a relegation tournament with four other Division 1 teams (Huddinge, Visby/Roma, Troja-Ljungby and Kristianstads) who all had excellent seasons worthy enough for potential promotion. Sodertalje saved themselves in the tournament and stay in the Allsvenskan, while Vasteras couldn't. In other words, Vasteras was relegated to Division 1, while Troja-Ljungby gets promoted to Allsvenskan.

Why is this important in Ranger news, you might ask? Well, prospect Daniel Bernhardt was with Vasteras this season and they were relegated to Divison 1, which is not good news. However, Bernhardt's contract was up with Djurgarden (who loaned him to Vasteras this year) and elite prospects lists him as signing with Karlskoga, the second best team in Allsvenskan this past year (behind Mora).

Not sure if he'll be with the Ranger organization for much longer (especially seeing that his SHL team let him go), but it's interesting to see how he'll do with Karlskoga. Their primary scorer, Victor Ejdsell, is rumored to be going to either Detroit, Chicago or Nashville in the coming weeks, so there might be a good chance that Bernhardt can get some primary playing time.

Still, though, not looking good for him. :shakehead

I don't think anyone among Ranger fans is expecting anything out of Bernhardt, who was an odd pick at the time anyway. An overager without any noteworthy stats

He was well above PPG when NYR selected him, so there were definitely noteworthy stats, but I agree that it was an odd pick at the time. Can't blame NYR for trying to hit the homerun/steal pick in the 4th round, though.

He looked very sluggish at the first developmental camp that summer. Fingers crossed he can turn things around in Karlskoga next season!!

It's not a huge loss. A late round pick is always hit or miss. Same with Nejezchleb. I remember us drafting Spelling which was out of left field, but at the time some people thought it could be a steal. Not only does our front office go for a goalie every year, they seem to fire a late pick at a European player. Low risk selections and I usually don't mind them, but Bernhardt never really looked to be a sensible pick.

Agreed.

Eh, I hated that Bernhardt pick from the beginning. I really wanted Garland or Timashov in that spot.

I can't find a working stream of the Seattle game and am sitting here grinding my teeth, lol. It figures that Gropp would score a goal 3 mintes into the game on the night I can't find a stream.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but Keegan Iverson signed an ATO with the Ontario Reign a couple days ago

Not sure if he's still Ranger property, but I saw his name pop up on eliteprospects like a week ago

What a terrible draft 2014 was for the team. Yeesh. Half of their picks aren't even property of the team anymore. Shestyorkin is the only saving grace of that year

No. Junior hockey players' rights belong to the team that drafted him, for 2 years. We drafted him in 2014, and didn't sign him in 2015 or 2016. Same with Mantha

Mantha signed the ELC with Edmonton. That wasn't surprising even though I don't think he'll amount to much.

Iverson actually regressed his two post-draft seasons. He showed absolutely nothing until his OA season when he just physically dominated a bunch of kids. He looks like an ECHL/AHL tweener to me.

As far as Bernhardt, he ripped up both J18 and J20 in Sweden before being drafted. He had an intriguing mix of great size and apparent skill. He was probably picked a round too early but wasn't exactly an off-the-board pick. It just ended up that the offense never developed. He'll probably have a decent career down the line as a middle-six type in one of the mid-tier Euro leagues. Definitely not a top-end guy in the SHL or KHL and certainly no future in North America.

There were some other guys that could have been taken there. Bear, Timashov, Kaprizov, Ruopp, whoever. Such is the nature of the later rounds, though, everyone is a gamble to some degree. He wasn't a bad pick, just one that didn't pan out.

Fully agree here. Iverson won't make it. Mantha might. D-men usually take longer to develop and as long-term projects some teams don't really have a problem waiting.

Out of all the skaters we drafted in 2014, I give Mantha the best chance to amount to something in the NHL.

Iverson: Won't make it
Nejezchleb: Probably will have a so-so career in Erope
Walcott: AHL-er at best
Nanne: WIll he ever play again?

Nanne is supposedly ready to go next year for Minnesota. He was ready to play this year but couldn't suit up due to NCAA transfer rules. Now, whether he can actually perform well enough to play high-level D1 hockey after sitting out two years reamins to be seen.

Yeah. I know the reason behind him not able to play this year, but not playing for 2 full years, it won't be easy to get into the line-up in D1 hockey, and I don't expect him to ever make it to the pros

Also note that the London Knights picked up Bernhardt to play the year the team won the Memorial Cup. The Knights are a very successful organization and the team's interest in Bernhardt also indicates the Rangers pick wasn't off the wall. I think nyr2k2 is exactly right. The Rangers took a chance but his game didn't develop. The percentage of 4th round picks making it is pretty small.

The 2014 draft was not a great one for the Rangers although if Shasty develops to replace Lundquist we'll all be talking about the great draft. But in many other years the Rangers have outperformed their draft status. Rather than look at any individual pick or year it makes more sense to focus on the total body of work.

Well written!!

People tend to forget that Nejezchleb was injured both years after NYR drafted him. He's unfortunately kept the injury consistency throughout Europe, as he only played 11 games in the Czech Extraliga this past year. With that said, his stats looked pretty decent for only playing 11 games (2 goals, 5 assists), but was minus-3 and 16 minutes worth of penalties.

Let's see how he does. Don't think he'll jump right out of the gate, but intriguing nonetheless. He's NYR's property until he leaves college or gets his rights traded somewhere else.
