Gropp put back with Barzal/Kolesar. Just got a secondary assist on a Kolesar tip-in goal. It was a nice backhand saucer pass from point to point to Ottenbreit. Ottenbreit fired a slapper and Kolesar deflected it in. I'll see if I can get a GIF up.

Gropp's assist in the first. He makes the first pass, which was a nice saucer.

Seattle wins 4-1 to sweep Everett (the #1 team in the Western Conference). Very freakin' impressive. Seattle is 8-0 in the POs this year, and they have started a 5'9" Goalie for every game who just turned 17 last month. Happy for the kid. His name is Carl Stankowski.

Gropp went 1 Assist and +1 tonight. He played exclusively with Barzal/Kolesar for the final 2 periods and was on PP1. So things seem to be back to normal for him.

So, with Seattle advancing...we have 3 series still going on. 1 in the WHL (Regina), 1 in the OHL (Soo), and 1 in the QMJHL (Rouyn-Noranda). Our guys our down 3-2 in all 3 of those series.

One game on the schedule for tomorrow: Regina @ Swift Current 9:00 PM EDT

Not sure if people have been hyping up Gropp, but he's had an excellent Calendar 2017.

I still think he's a Jason Chimera in the making, and did not think he had bust written on him earlier in the year.

That said, if you take the season wire to wire.... he might have had the best one out of all of the Ranger prospects this year.

Really? What makes you think so?

He's back for an overager season, and his stats are barely better than last season, when they weren't even that good.

We had a prospect who was maybe the best goalie in the second best league in the world this season. I think thats a lot better than a player who didn't even make any WHL All-Star teams.

And Gropp might've not even been our best WHL player. Zborovskiy actually made the WHL All-Star team, Gropp didn't.

January on-wards, he was a beast. His size & skating is what's impressive. I don't think the drop off from Perlini to Gropp is very high.

Like a middle six winger versus a bottom 6 winger. Difference being goal scoring. Like I said, Jason Chimera is the comparable, so it's not like I'm saying the ceiling is very high.

I'd like to see Zorro's game in the AHL before getting my hopes up.

Lots of promise to his game, but he also plays on a stacked team. Once he gets to the pro game, I think the size and strength advantage he has now will be a better judge.

Remember, the Rangers took Zorro with limited hockey experience, he was definitely underscouted, so I think there is a potential for a gem here.

I think you know how good the Russian scouts for NYR are... shame they don't take more of them.... but then again... if they had the picks...

He said "calendar 2017," meaning this calendar year. In 2017 Gropp averaged 2 points per game, which is great. Had he done that in the first half he'd have been an All Star. On the other hand, Zborovskiy had 8 points in 2017. Had he done that in the first half he wouldn't have sniffed an All Star team. It was all about timing.

Gropp and Zborovskiy flip-flopped in terms of production throughout the season. Gropp definitely didn't have the best season of our prospects, but his second half was great.

Okay, but how has he been better than Shestyorkin? That was my main contention, the other part is a side note.

If you look at Brad Morrison's season, I think he was leading the WHL in scoring a few weeks in. This is not a high level of hockey. I think if you have to look at the season in stretches instead of the whole, there obviously is something wrong with the full data. I think 100 points would've been a fair expectation for Gropp this season. Its nice he had a good second half, but overall, he had what I'd consider a lackluster season for someone who might be expected to be a skilled NHL top 9 forward. It doesn't mean he can't be an NHL'er. There are plenty of NHL'ers who underachieve in junior and plenty of non-NHL'ers who overachieve in junior, but at best, I would say Gropp had an average season, and really, probably a below-average season, given what expectations should've been.

What's Shesty done other than just win and dominate?

He is the Rangers best prospect. But he's not coming over until 2020.

Gropp redeemed his season. I admire your knowledge base, but your Russian bias is pretty deep dude.

BTW I think you should check out how well Minny is doing with Russians.

Soo & Gettinger are eliminated.

Had a surprisingly good season all things considered.

I hope he ends up in a better program like London next year. A Windsor or London will definitely do wonders for him. Especially from an athletic training perspective.

Got it, you use the go to argument to use against me when you are in a pickle, even though its makes no sense

I've got nothing against Gropp, I think I like him more than most, I was arguing for him in many of the Kovacs-Gropp discussions, but Shestyorkin had a much better season than Gropp, and a better calendar year. I'm biased because our best prospect who had the best season happens to be Russian and I admitted that?

Wouldn't matter if he was from North Korea, thats not Russian bias, thats just reality. Its not anything against Gropp, Shestyorkin might've had a top 10 season of any prospect thats not in the NHL.

Gabriel Fontaine is of course having a very good game as Huskies look to take this to game 7, it's 6-1 after 2 periods and Fontaine has 1 goal, been excellent defensively.

4-0 Regina after 2. At the risk of jinxing Regina, I'd say their chances of winning this game and advancing are pretty good. At the risk of further jinxing, wouldn't it be something if Seattle and Regina could both win in the next round and face each other in the Finals...

Sad that Soo lost, killed the dream of having 4 guys in the Memorial Cup, 3 is still a possibility but hinges on Huskies winning tonight, let's go... We still look really good in the WHL.
