I think LA and Florida came up as options of interest as well so possibly even cross out Colorado, which would be mind blowing to me.
The guy genuinely sounds like an insufferable asshole. This is a team sport, to see him act and play like he did over the last month and a half is extremely worrisome if I am another GM, coach, or owner.

Things might be good in Dallas for now, but you're always going to wonder when he's going to torch that lockerroom, too. Guys like Terrell Owens are only a ticking time bomb before they explode, and you don't want him on your team when he does.

As a side note assuming the above quote isn’t some AI bullshit that’s a comment Rod probably should have kept to himself. I suspect he might be hearing from one of Tulsky or Dundon or both today. Just another distraction we don’t need right now…
Why? This isn't state secrets. How can it be anyone's fault? Its not like we would have traded for him if we knew he wanted only 4 teams in the league. You dont give up Nachos for a rental. Its why we offered him a contract BEFORE TDL. My guess is the agent played both colorado and us.

Two of which couldn't afford him, and one who offered him basically what he took. What a f***in cook.

See, my mind went to:

Opportunity to be fed by McKinnon, McDavid or Matthews and then Dallas, who he's probably most familiar with (being a divisional rival of Colorado) and has a bunch of Finnish players.

Look he either didn't like it in COL, (which clearly isn't true) or thought he was worth Draisitl money. He isn't. The played the game with colorado, they Canes'd him, he got traded, possibly shat himself when he started figuring out that The Oil nor the leafs were able to pay him 14M, and that teams were basically only going to offer him between 12-13.

Even in Rod's statement you can hear him eluding to the girlfriend not liking raleigh (aka boring). My guess is in the end he panicked, and took the deal in dallas as to not get stuck walking to UFA and going to a team he didn't want to be on. In the end it sound's like he's dumber than poolparty and he pigeoned himself into ending up in Dallas because they were the only one on his list of four he could get into, and it was 12M that did it.

Dumbf*** should have just signed in colorado and lived his life as he has been, fat dumb and happy. But he will make way more in Dallas, (tax) and it's a busy city full of fancy shit.

I’m not arguing fault here…I’m just saying by even commenting on this Rod is opening up a can of worms he probably should not have. I thought I detected a subtle tinge of criticism of the front office in his remarks…

Good? Don't do dumb shit. You can hear in his comments he wanted to keep Guentz. We f***ed around and f***ed around and he ended up and TB AND we lost Pesh and Skjei. GOOD.

Tulsky redeemed himself and got more than one year of Necas was worth. Period. Was it luck or geekism? No idea. But dundon's apparent meddling in the Guentz deal has f***ed us but good. Guentz WANTED to be here and we strung him along like Rantanen did us, and lowballed him. Then the guy we throw money at doesn't want to be here.

I'd be questioning that too.

It's just sad that fans blame a player, Rantanen was traded to Carolina, without any control of his own.... I would like to know how many of you would treat that same situation as it would be your own fault... You didn't ask to be traded to McDonald's but burger King flipped you, but because of the trade, everybody hates you because they feel that you are greedy.... Wtf... I hope Rantanen kicks your behind just because your unreasonable loyalty cravings... Everyone made decisions based on the financials, but only the millionaire is the bad one, none of the billionaires who actually traded people... Sportsfans are just emotionally to invested to make rational decisions.

Rantanen's "influencer" girlfriend, lol? This sounds a lot like when Scott Darling's sister was posting under an alias on the official Canes board.

I'm a bit sceptical about him coming in and stating up front that he'd only sigh with 4 teams and the Canes weren't one of them. And if he did, I'd appreciate his up front honesty instead of stringing the Canes along until the deadline. His effort level while he was here, however, is inexcusable.

I agree with this. I like that Rod is typically willing to give you honesty on where things stand but there are times where I just don't think it's helpful. It doesn't seem helpful here.

If he walked into Raleigh and said that, I think he understood Colorado was no longer an option.
yep, which is why I had them crossed off my list of 4 teams. Usually the guys that are pure rental and return types there's some sort of wink wink nudge nudge type situation when they're traded in the first place and the return is commensurate to that (think the Tkachuk trade to ATL back when they made the playoffs, or Dr Recchi being traded here in 06)

that quote pretty much just reiterates we should of gave Guentzel what he asked for
I dont think there is a single person here that disagrees with that. Even tripp said last night that he knows Jake personally, and he WANTED to be here but essentially got tired of being dicked around. He will be the one that got away. Him and pesce. Not Mikko.

Yeah, sounds like rod to criticize the front office, especially when it is out there they did their due diligence and the feedback was positive.

Its a divorce where the prevailing narrative is one side must have done something wrong, until eventually the blamed side decides to let it be known the other side was abusive or banging the entire bowling league (and that wasn't ok in their relationship).

The main thing i take from it all is that if necas worked in bad faith like mikko we'd have demidov. And it would have felt dirty.

You know what, 90% of the time I agree, but when the player played like absolute dogwater when he was here because he was sulking about being here to the point where people were questioning Rod's ability to coach, and then the player adds one more f*** you on his way out the door by handcuffing that team from making follow-up trades at the deadline, I don't mind a bit of airing that dirty laundry. Especially when someone like Friedman already confirmed that Rants was asked about extending in Carolina before the original trade for which he said he would consider it.

Sometimes, you just have to call a locker room cancer what it is. And other players around the league now know why things happened they way they did here. And now this is all out there for the media to latch onto at the first sign of a hiccup in Dallas, because f*** you, Mikko, that's why.

I don’t fault him for it but I still kinda think guentzel was going to free agency no matter what. That’s essentially what he told Pittsburgh and while he absolutely fit right in and I don’t doubt that he loved it here, i imagine it’s hard to pass up the opportunity to really be in charge of where you end up. Maybe he really would have signed here if they’d met his ask earlier but we’ll never know for sure

I agree with this mostly. ignoring the lie before colorado traded him, i think we'd mostly be ok if his effort here matched his first game in dallas.

If he had said, i'm going to test free agency, but work my ass off to do so after lifting a cup here it would have stung to lose him but rentals happen.

I think they probably wanted to at least treat him as a rental but his "effort" eventually made it impossible.

I think it's just the way he presented it comes off as blaming our/his front office in addition to making Rantanen seem like an ass, which doesn't seem helpful. I think if he had a bit more of a filter he could have handled what he said better. But he just doesn't.
