Maybe we let Stralman walk, and since Brian Boyle wants a bigger role, he can play defense for us. Just make sure he watches a lot of video of Chara and has John Moore teach him how to skate.
Losing Stralman and Pouliot will likely hurt us big time in the short term.
Not feeling as good about next season as I was before.
You do know he did play defenseman when he was younger right?

Nah, Poo we couldn't leverage.
Only way we could max on him now would be to sign him, then trade him AND Brass AND Zuc (both extended) in a package deal.
That's like buying a clock factory to get best possible cost on a nice watch.
Ok, I'm not above it, but not for Poo.
So bottom line, Poo is someone we were always gonna throw back.
Stralman wants security AND peace of mind for the family.
I would tell him this is the deal:
I'll give you 6 years at a flat 4m per.
But, we wanna be ready in 2 years in case Stamkos wants to come here, and we will certainly need space before that.
So I scratched your back with 6 years.
I want extensive trade clause.
You can name any 6 teams in the league which you identify in beginning of the year, and have veto power for them (can change year to year).
Now I can trade you at 4m over 6 if I wish.
If you are traded, you get contingency bonus clause 1m.
We have a shot there.
But almost anything else not as flexible as that for us may not work.
maybe we're misunderstanding an he actually wants a bigger roll as part of his contract. Like this.
Not really.
He was always a forward, but because of injuries in his senior year at BC, he offered to fill in on defense for the remainder of the season.
That's a story that always gets exaggerated into "Boyle used to be a defenseman."
yeah if were trading Staal to Winnipeg id want it to be as part of a package getting Byuf/Bogo & Kane here. Big deal, would need a lot of moving parts. Could be doable though.
I dont want to move Hagelin...at all, but I'd love to see this team next season....
Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Kane - Grabovski - MSL
Pouliot - Brassard - Zucc
Fasth - Lindberg - Miller (probably have to go all kids to make it work cap wise..and even then it probably doesnt work...)
Girardi - McD
???? - Byuf
Moore - Klein
I bet it doesnt work cap wise, but you get what i mean. Could be a ridiculous team.
Actually he played a month or so of defense for Manchester in the AHL as well.
A lot of ****ing unwarranted Girardi hate here.
The guy has been a warrior for this team for a long time.
I expect nothing less than him sacrificing his body for this team for the next 6 years.
His cap hit isn't killing us. There's 29 other teams in the NHL that would love to have Dan Girardi at that cap hit.
I think his turnovers in the SCF has really soured a lot of your perspectives on just how good/important he is.
So... what do you think the chances are that Dale Tallon's "really good offer" for #1 came from the Rangers?
Morin would be an ideal replacement.
You are correct in noting that his poor SCF play is prompting desires to trade him, but at the same time, he's pretty much the exact opposite of a prototypical defensemen for the AV system.A lot of ****ing unwarranted Girardi hate here.

Yet again, I have to wonder what the front office is doing with their time.
Why hasn't at least Dominic Moore been re-signed? Why are we the slowest team in the league when it comes to offering our players contracts?

From a pure style of play standpoint, it makes more sense to move him as opposed to Staal/Stralman.
Either way, I don't think he gets traded this year, but I won't be surprised if he's shopped next offseason.
In another thread, asking price was 2nd +, and there were late 1sts + offered.
Who could we offer?
I don't know why people are so impatient with this stuff. 12 teams in the league have signed players to deals since the SCF ended. That's it. We aren't the slowest. We are equal with 17 other teams.
