plus he can't afford too with cap :laugh:
 
What is going on with Jonathon Blum?

Rangers should be all over that. How much could it possibly cost to trade for his rights?

Blum could be a very good fit on the right side of the third pair.

I get the concern. He's still young-ish, and a change a scenery could do him well.

It's the kind of low-risk, high-reward move we could afford to make this summer, while we are cap strapped.

5. Predators head coach Barry Trotz immediately said Jones would partner with Shea Weber, which would create a rare righty-righty defensive pairing. Phil Housley, just hired to tutor Nashville's defencemen, said he wasn't worried, pointing out that playing on the off-wing will allow Jones to see the ice better as he carries it through the neutral zone. Housley added that Jones and Weber are so lengthy that it will allow both to play at the top of the power play, which lessens the concern of two right-handed shots hurting the ability to create one-timers.

8. Last week, some NHL GMs were excited about the possibility of getting relatively inexpensive help through bought-out players. Not so fast. Both Vincent Lecavalier and Daniel Briere have gone from terribly disappointed to pleasantly surprised and excited by the amount of interest in them. All of that interest means both players will command a bigger dollar than expected.

24. A few months ago, Los Angeles Kings GM Dean Lombardi said every salary-cap move was made with an eye on Dustin Brown, scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent next summer. There were some rumours Brown, who is underpaid by NHL standards, wanted a massive increase on his next contract -- to Corey Perry/Ryan Getzlaf levels. Upon looking into it, one source reached out to say that isn't the case. Brown will get a (deserved) raise, but is not interested in destroying the team's salary structure.

Brown's new contract = barometer for Callahan's new contract. AKA no thank you.
 
60 point Callahan is absolutely worth whatever Dustin Brown is worth.

It's just a matter of seeing if he can go back to 60 point form- having two shoulders should help.

Brown is a much more complete player and dominant physical presence. I suspect he'll get around 5.5m per.

I'm not as certain about Briere because he wasn't as front and centre at the draft, but guesstimates on Lecavalier's next contract are around the five-year, $25-million mark. That said, there are a couple of executives who said they wouldn't be surprised if a team asks to bump that up to seven years with the last two at lower salaries to lessen the cap hit. It's also expected that Lecavalier will ask for no-move or no-trade protection.

Hopefully Miller can come in and replace Callahan's production. I feel confident that he can in 2-3 yrs time.
 
Why do people have Richards playing 3c? If the Rangers kept him only to be a 3c then our management really is stupid lol. Brassard imo will be the 3c

If nothing else, he should get a chance to be a bottom 6 fixture next year. Right now we have Brassard, boyle and Dorsett for 3 of the bottom 6. Miller should absolutely beat out anyone else

Well the 3rd line is supposed to be the defensive line, and neither Richards nor brassard are very good defensively. My thinking is Boyle is the best defensive center, so he should be the 3rd line C. But neither brassard nor Richards are fourth line guys either.

Does AV use two centers on that third line? Perhaps they would want a line with both Miller and Boyle on the ice for defensive draws?

The other option is using Richards or brassard at wing in the top 6, then Boyle and miller and Lindberg can be used for the bottom 6.
 
Mystifying.

All these bad contracts going to be signed in a year GMs are complaining about a tight cap.

NYR may be missing depth and tight on the cap, but I'm kind of glad we weren't tempted to drop one of these bombs this offseason because of it.
 
Edmonton has to really overpay to lure a top free agent to play in that town. Craig Custance has Clarkson rated as the 2nd best free agent available. Vinny is #1. He wasn't a free agent until last Thursday. The free agent list isn't very good next summer either. There are some good players available but those guys will be retained by their current teams with the cap going up again. Custance has Clowe at #15. Darren Dreger threw out the $6.5M number this morning on the radio for Clarkson. Dreger is doing the work of Newport Sports again.
