Dear lord when was that? I see Devils. Last ECF?

Yes. One of many ridiculously good plays he has made that people tend to forget or ignore.

Cant seem to recall a player that abused on a breakaway attempt by a defender. Or at least it's slipping my mind. That was just a crazy good play. And it was freaking Zach Parise out there, not Steve Bernier.

The thing is.. Does Mcdonagh right now provide enough offense to go along with his shut down D to be paid 5M on a 2nd contract?

The thing is, his shutdown D alone is good enough to be worth 5m IMO. Him and Girardi have been consistently the top pair in the league since they were attached together. If a player deserves to get a huge payraise, it's McDonagh.

well lets be fair, Stepan had an amazing season but he didnt really start producing until mid February last year, he only performed as a 1C for half a season.

Mcdonagh at 4.5M is making more than Staal did when he signed his 2nd contract which is a very big honor seeing as the Rangers have always viewed Staal as the rock of their defense.

Hagelin and Zucc will see bridge contracts, hell Stepan IMO will too.

I hope you're right.

What about Joe Corvo to help with the PP?

Hasn't been good in a long time.
8PP points in 40 games last season. 9 in 70 the season before that and has been on the wrong side of 0 in the +/- column for the past 6 out of 7 seasons. Also he is 36.
He had a good season in 2010-2011 but really very inconsistent over the past few seasons.

Doubt the Rangers move a defenseman at this point. Would rather just keep DZ and roll with this crazy blueline:

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Del Zotto
Moore-Stralman

So...good.

Would be nice to go through a season with all 6 being actually healthy for once

McDonagh is arbitration eligible. He can file for salary arbitration next Wednesday. July 10. Other teams can start talking to McDonagh tomorrow. Interview period in the new CBA. Free agency really begins tomorrow. A player can not sign anything until Friday the 5th but a player can verbally agree to terms or agree in principle. NBA free agency began on July 1 but any trades or free agent signings can not be completed until July 10. The Knicks have their trade with Toronto ready to go. Dwight Howard is visiting with teams. It behooves Sather to sign McDonagh to a deal as long as possible. He is 3 years away from group III.

Buy as many UFA years from McDonagh as you can. 6 years at $24 to $27 million.

Stepan isn't arbitration eligible yet. 3 year bridge contract at 8-10 million.

Going to be a long week. Can't wait for the rumors to start flying. Hopefully none of which involve NYR. No stupid signings please!

What about Joe Corvo to help with the PP?

No. He is weak defensively. If they are going to sign someone to be a depth d-man, I would rather them not be flashy and just get the job done with limited minutes.

If he comes as cheap as Eminger we can do way worse. He'll want at least double though. No cap room. Thanks Richards.

He's not good.

Exactly.

Absolutely.

Absolutely...not.

McDonagh needs to score over 40 to get a salary of over $5M. I think he can get there but there's no reason to pay more than you have to. There's no reason for him to get $1M more than Staal got.

Looking at what is available as of now, here is what I would most likely go with:

CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER
My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Carl Hagelin ($2.000m) / Derek Stepan ($3.750m) / Rick Nash ($7.800m)
Mats Zuccarello ($1.250m) / Derick Brassard ($3.200m) / Ryan Callahan ($4.275m)

CAP SPACE (24-man roster): $1,130,833

I demoted Powe and Asham to make room for Haley and Mashinter who I think bring more than both of those guys and can fill their roles better.

Pyatt and Mashinter will play to start the year as Callahan and Hagelin will be out with injuries.

Haley and Dorsett on the same line will be an absolute buzz-saw and super energy line.

Rangers also did not extend qualifying offers to Niemi and Pamieri. Would not have qualified Ferriero, either. Ferriero was traded for Falk

No more Palmieri, obviously not impressed with him

meh both should be let go based on play

So Mashinter is a UFA right? Is he a lock to come back? If so its costs a 7th next yr and that means they have dealt their 5th, for Clowe, 6th for Falk as well. 2nd for Clowe............ugh...........move a Pyatt for a pick please

Mashinter is a RFA.

Demote Asham and Powe. Trade Pyatt for McLeod.

I believe you can't demote players over 900k to the minors with 1way contract. They still count on the cap.

I thought the same but it is actually just the amount over the 900k. So they are minimal cap hits to demote them.

See towards the bottom on cap geek:

Apparently Clarkson is looking at 6.75m per according to a Dreger source from the main boards. Dreger's credibility took a big time hit this offseason for me. approaching Eklund-lite levels.

Sather is licking his chops at this one.

Any GM who gives Clarkson those dollars needs to get his head examined.

that is absurd. absolutely absurd. any GM that signs him to that should be fired immediately.
