They don't want to handicap themselves in contract dealings. If they signed Clowe now, they'd do so without kningowing what kind of deals they were going to give the RFA's. Getting the 4 lads on the right deal is a higher priority than keeping Clowe, and it should be.

He's on 3 concussions, the wrong side of 30, wants a big contract, has never been more than a 20 goal scorer, and loses us another pick if we re-sign him. That is a lot of negatives.

does TSN ever have any good information on the Rangers? or any non Canadian team for that matter?

lol, but I actually have legitimate questions on this. Haven't looked at the cap numbers since last year. Anyone?

totally agree, get the RFAs done first, than see whats out there.

What is the financial bind they're referring to? How would it be impossible? Wouldn't this affect FA signings too?

Dagoon gave us some information regarding Clowe. 3 concussions definitely plays into the decision.

say goodbye to Ryane Clowe because of 3 concussions and slowing down very quickly and wants a multi year deal, forget the saving of cap space, say goodbye because of that.

capgeek has the Rangers with 14.1M of cap space.

4.5 (4) for McDonagh and Stepan, 2.5 (2) for Hagelin, 2.0 (3) for Zuccarello. Falk shouldn't get more than a million, and that should leave us with enough to bring back Eminger.

NYR may have to look within the system to fill the gaps left by Hagelin and Callahan.

What did they waste two first rounders on? Are you suggesting a 27 year old #1 goalie is a wasted 1st round pick? I'm assuming the 2nd is the forfeited 1st rounder next year...and if so, I'm quite happy about that!

How is Schneider a #1 goalie? He's never played more than 33 games in an NHL season.

He was also playing behind a stacked Vancouver team.

This year his numbers were meh. He is completely unproven over an 82 game season. I'll reserve judgement until i see him play 60+ games.

On top of that, I would never trade a #9 overall for a goalie, unless we're talking about the top guys in the NHL.

Schneider has been nothing more than a high level back up thus far. Terrible asset management by the Devils. You can't continuously throw away top draft picks, especially when your team is essentially rebuilding.

Great to see them go two years without having a first.

if we can move Pyatt and Asham or Powe.. we would have around 4M cap space if these numbers are right.

by keeping richards we have zero cap space for anything beyond signing our RFAs without making a trade. there will be no ufa signings or additions...better hope some kids are ready to step in or we might have trouble fielding a complete team.

I like the idea of Raymond or Briere depending on where they feel they need someone. I am also still pimping McLeod from Colorado for some added size and toughness. It's needed in this division. Good energy player. Another option would be Nystrom.

Haley and Mashinter are wildcards for me. Both can provide the toughness I think the team is lacking and they can both play the game pretty well, they just need to seize the opportunity if there is one in camp.

There isn't much room to work with, and that's not even considering the fact that our RFAs may get more than I pegged them for. Need to ditch Asham and Powe. It's dead space.

IMO those are all very generous contracts. Would love to see it.

I'd dump Pyatt before Asham. Bigger contract. Extra 500K in cap space.

I think your prices are pretty fair. McD's may even be a little high. Truly think we're going to be fine this season.

I don't think McD will get more than 4.5 per year, but could be wrong. Stepan will get under 3 per year if Sather forces him to take a 2 year deal.

Stepan will NOT get that little, Sather would be CRAZY to think he doesn't deserve more!!

:sarcasm:

I think Stepan gets the Giroux contract; three years, $3.75M. It's a good deal for both sides. Personally, I think he should be locked up for five years at around ~$4M. Better asset management, IMO. Will be a BARGAIN in a year or two.

Five years, $4.75M for McDonagh. Shattenkirk got a little over $4M per, and I think McDonagh is a MUCH better player than Shattenkirk.

If there is one thing I trust with Sather, it's RFA contracts. I think the Rangers will be getting the benefit of his short bridge negations. However, I would like to see a Staal type long term contract (5yrs+).

I think Mcdonagh is the only person to get a long term deal if anyone.
