Okay he will be a healthy scratch all year until the playoffs.

Boyle isn't that bad. He is a limited player but have some nice attributes, size, defensive awareness, PKing, face offs.

Torts used him everywhere, roles he just isn't good or comfortable in. I think AV used Boyle much more wisely and we'll be happy with him.

Boyle brings it come playoff time. For Christ's sake, he outscored Rick Nash and Ryan Callahan. We can't do both Lappy and Boyle, that's 3.6M on 2 4th line centers, and I'd much rather have the guy who's already a Ranger.

Why are so many people vehemently against paying 1.7 million for one of the better defensive forwards out there?

The only reason I would move Boyle is because they can recoup assets and replace him via UFA for about the same amount. Boyd Gordon would be a good replacement. Same with Lapierre. Boyle for Gordon/Lapierre + 2nd '14. I would take that trade.

That's not saying much.

have no problem with Boyle centering the 4th line. We still need some depth players though, get rid of the Pyatt's, Asham's, etc, and try to bring in Raymond (AV could play a factor getting him on a good deal).

Expect an announcement shortly that Tim Thomas is exploring his return to play opportunities in the NHL.

Flyers? Oh wait. they only know offense.

This was from many weeks back:

Randy Miller Randy Miller ‏@RandyJMiller

For what's it worth, i heard this week Tim Thomas wants to play for Flyers in '13-14. Also heard Flyers recently discussed Ryan Miller

They only have Mason signed on their NHL roster. It makes a lot of sense for the Flyers to sign him.

They only have 4.18 Million in cap space though and used both of their buyouts. trades would have to be done I would think.

The Rangers had sent or delivered qualifying offers by Monday to five of their six restricted free agents, aiming to protect their rights to top-pair defenseman Ryan McDonagh, top center Derek Stepan, top-six winger Carl Hagelin, playmaker Mats Zuccarello and newly-acquired depth defenseman Justin Falk.

Leonard notes that the Rangers have sent qualifying offers to Justin Falk, Derek Stepan, Carl Hagelin, Ryan McDonagh and Mats Zuccarello.
-Zuccarello’s qualifying offer is $735,000.
-McDonagh’s qualifying offer is $826,875
-Stepan’s qualifying offer is 826,875
-Hagelin’s qualifying offer is $660,000
-Falk’s qualifying offer is $866,250

all 5 of them except :sarcasm:

Yes, because the value of player contracts escalates right along with the cap.
Very true. Interesting that you mentioned that. I thought of that. But where would the line be? Will the Boyle's of the world ask for $2.5 million a year? The Stamkos' ask $9, $10 million a year? That'd make a player like Callahan get $5 million a year. If it jumped that high, the small market teams are going to fade out so fast. The more space for a 23 man roster sounds so dangerous for a team like the Rangers, especially come FA time. Big market teams are the only teams that are going to be able to handle that.

Must? Maybe not. The smart thing to do? Hell yes.
Smart, yes. But with the extra space, you can make a case for keeping him if he can put up 60+ points... But then we have these points by JaeTM. Next year is a now or never scenario. Tons of pros and cons.

Next year is the last year for the compliance buy outs right? At least that's what I remember hearing. If so, Richards is as good as gone. No way we keep him for the remainder of his contract with him declining at age 34-35. He'd still have what, 6 more years?

I was for keeping Richards this year, but right now, I dunno now with the possible cap if it's a necessary thing to buy out Richards next offseason.

When do the players have to accept the QOs until? obviously they wont just wondering.

I believe July 15.

A Qualifying Offer shall automatically expire at 5:00 p.m. New York time
on July 15; provided, however, that the Club may by written notice to
Central Registry and the NHLPA, sent in accordance with Exhibit 3
hereof, provided on or before 5:00 p.m. New York time on July 15, extend
the deadline for Qualifying Offer acceptance to a date (which must be a
fixed and definitive calendar date) determined in its sole discretion.

I think people resent him because he's so big, but doesn't play like Eric Lindros. Plus defense always takes a back seat to goals and flash; just look at what the Norris trophy has become.

As always, the value of players varies based on RFA vs UFA status. Callahan, by the way, is going to be worth $5m+ as a UFA when his contract is up, whether the cap increases or not.

One might say that if the cap increases by 5%, then so do the relative values of all the players needing to sign new deals.
