Because they are still to soft at top 6, still no secondary scoring in the top 6

Agree here, help needs to be acquired here via trade.

still to slow and talentless on the bottom 6. Passive throughout the line up.

Disagree here. Lindberg, Fast, and Miller will bring skill and jam to the 3rd line next season. All three of those can put up points, and don't shy away from contact either.

No legit PPQB

Agree here, although I see the term PPQB thrown around loosely around here. Del Zotto is actually a decent PPQB. He can move the puck quickly around the points. The power play needs a big shot from the point. We've seen glimpses of Moore being able to do it, but he's inconsistent with it. Again, this may be addressed through trade

To many holes to fill, not enough adaquete plugs available via the system or via ufa.

Right, which is why I see a couple of trades going down. Deal from a position of strength to address weaknesses.

Don't trust that Staal will ever be the same player he was if the vision doesn't get better. Don't trust that stepan can be a #1 center over a full season. Not comfortable with the speed, talent and physicality of the 3rd and 4th lines.

Adding a scorer to the top line doesn't address those issues. They hurt us this past post season
as much as the system did.

How did I miss that? Definitely got up too early today. I just hope the Devils aren't awarded the "Best Pick in the Draft" award when a top 5 consensus pick drops to them at 9.

Doubt it. If anything, they'll look to trade up with the draft in their home arena. The last time they got the consensus "best value in the 1st round" was Larsson 4th overall a couple years ago. That's not working out too well for them...yet.

Do people really think Weiss is going to sign here?

He's going to a market that lacks centers with top line pedigree. Even with his recent injury, he will likely get $5M+ per on the open market from a desperate team (Edmonton, Toronto, Anaheim, Washington, etc). The Rangers are not in a position to bid for these kind of players.

He's not going to sign here for $3.5M to play in a 3rd line role, I don't even see why the possibility is being brought up.

Expecting Lindberg and Fasth to provide anything on offense is reaching. Yet to lace up an NHL skate. I like Miller though. He can help.

The lack of a good shot from the point makes the Rangers' power play easy to shut down. Why? They can do exactly what the Rangers did at even strength this past season. Collapse all of their skaters below the hashmarks and dare the other team to shoot from the point.

The biggest 's and TV bricks from me this season came from Richards refusing to shoot from the point and instead trying to force a pass to the half boards, where both the strong side defenseman and forward were there ready to defend because they were collapsed so deep.

It was easy for them. Collapse, force turnover down low, clear the zone, rinse, repeat.

A big shot from the point changes all that. It forces the opposing forwards to stay high to keep the point men honest. That opens a guy up like Nash along the half boards to get the puck and pick corners.

Staal is a legit concern as are as usual the bottom 6, but adding another winger pushes others who dont belong on the 3rd line down. Stepan has gotten better every year.Imo hes got 1c all over him.

not sure Weiss gets that, has he EVER been a guy who should get 5m? teams will have to be smarter this year, can't just throw around money.

Teams will still throw around that type of money. The cap will be going up the year afterwards. Weiss had a very solid year in 11-12 when Florida won their division.

Mikhail Grabovski just got a contract worth $5.5M per. Weiss is probably the better player when healthy. He's going to get paid. Only issue is that Weiss had that wrist injury this season, which could hurt his value, but I don't doubt that some incompetent GM will over him $5M+.

adding a scorer, buying out Richards, and signing flippula gives us a team (just for example, lets use bobby ryan), of.. Hagelin-Stepan-Nash. Ryan-Brassard-Callahan. Kreider-flippula-zucc. miller-boyle-dorsett. scoring on every line.

Lol that's funny. You seem to forget that once Ryan and Filppula come here, they'd be stripped of all goal scoring ability.

Filppula is an inconsistent playmaker who has a relatively significant injury history. He's also a winger.

He's not what this team needs.

he can play either and do it well.. He's versatile and young. can play either top or bottom 6. He's also got offensive talent

Do not want to blow up the team. Depending on who the new coach is I hope they keep most of the roster.

Don't want a Richards buyout yet. It's a risk in case he gets injured and can't be bought out next year, but allowing him to sign for another team is a risk too. If he returns to the player he once was, we'll be sorry.

Lock up Steps and Hags
Sign Zuccarello for 2 years at 1,1
Sign Eminger
Do not resign Clowe.

If Richards finds his game:
Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Zuccarello - Richards - Callahan
Kreider - Brassard- Asham
Powe - Boyle - Dorsett

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - MDZ
Eminger - Stralman

Ryan is going to be very costly IMO. A lot of teams are going to want in on him, the Rangers aren't going to be able to get him without moving some big pieces. Considering they don't have a first, that means at the very least, one solid roster player and a good prospect, probably more.

Teams will still have flexibility to add players with the cap going down beause of the compliance buyouts. Toronto will sign a center if they can't re-sign Bozak. Could be Ribeiro or Weiss. All of these guys will get paid. Some stupid team will give them a stupid contract. The Rangers know about that. They are kings of the stupid. Roy wants crazy money term and money.

Weiss, Bozak, Flip and Roy. Don't want any of these guys. Rather work trades or bank on our kids.

As much as I hate to say it I really think Nathan Horton is the best option for the Rangers. He's injury prone and will be expensive but we NEED someone to push Cally down to the third line. If you ask me, Kreider and Zucc have already kicked Hags to the third line because they have way more pure offensive talent than he does, and they deserve their spots. If we sign Horton at 3-4 years for 5 mill, that gives us a lineup of:

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Zucc-Brassard-Horton
Hagelin-XXXX-Cally
XXXX-Boyle-Dorsett

As for the left wing on the 4th line, I like Patrick Bordeleau. Top 5 fighter in the league, hits anyone, fights anyone, usually wins, and he can skate decently too. That's a good fourth line of you ask me. Also for the third line center I suggested Matt Cullen before and I stand by it. I don't like the idea of bringing in Weiss or Roy, undersized and will get massively overpaid. Cullen is defensively responsible and works hard every shift, kills penalties, scores on the powerplay, scores in shootouts, why the hell not? Pretty good forward core if you ask me.

Yup. Toronto will probably amnesty Grabovski and replace his $5.5M with Weiss' $5.5M.

Last summer,Bob Murray wanted 2 young pieces for Ryan. From the Flyers,he wanted two of the three. Couturier,Schenn and JVR.

Staal for Ryan makes a ton of sense, but Anaheim is probably afraid of Staal leaving in two years for Carolina.

That being said, Ryan is also a free agent the year Staal is. Maybe the Rangers are afraid he'll desert for Philly. ;)

We don't have a choice. Richards must be bought out...it would be devastating if he were to get injured and be a cap monster for the rest of this decade. And even if he improves, will he ever be worth close to his cap hit for the next 7 years? Again, don't see him reverting to a 70+ point player. He has to go.

I really don't think they need to push Callahan down to the third line, but that's just me. Also, saying Kreider has kicked Hags down a line is a serious overstatement. Kreider scored 1 important goal all season. Hagelin had more points in his hot streak toward the beginning of the season than Kredier did in all of his NHL games together. Kreider has a lot to prove. I'm confident he can prove it, but it still has to be done.

If any FA is going to get overpaid by the Rangers, I'd want it to be Horton, but I'd prefer to not get any of them. They're goign to cost too much and the team's cap situation going forward is already worrisome.

Let the kids step up and see who is ready to be difference maker in the NHL. Work out a new system, really focus on breakout schemes and passing drills. If at all possible, find a way to make the PP at least average.

Maybe there's no "need" to put Callahan on the third line, but it makes the team a lot deeper. Callahan would probably benefit from the lesser ES minutes health-wise AND production wise. He'd be a lot more effective in that role, imo.
