I would actually be fine with Zuccarello on the 3rd line. His linemates can make room for him, and while he's tiny, it takes guts to stare down Parros when you're 5'7" 180, or whatever MZA is now.
Pyatt was hated because he was placed in a 3rd line role this season until Clowe/Zuccarello arrived. He largely underperformed in that role besides the first 5 games of the year and the playoffs.

Well either way, they need to find another winger.
A lot of where Zucc can play will depend on the new coach too.

He's too slow to play the dumping game that Torts had. Too slow to forecheck properly. He's also soft and isn't that good of a PKer.

this is the guy we need for our 4th line...Patrick Bordeleau.
If McIlrath is ready...then he wouldn't have to fight heavies the way Lucic doesn't fight heavies because Thornton does the lifting.
If Clowe is resigned...he to would not have to do the heavying lifting.
Bordeleau can play when other teams dress heavies and when they don't...insert Asham...keeps Asham fresh as well.

(62) and major penalties (6).
He has recorded eight hits in three different games this season, including last
Saturday in Phoenix. He is the first Avalanche player to ever have three games
with at least eight hits in a single season (since 2005-06).
The 6-foot-6, 225-pound forward has appeared in 36 of Colorado’s 38 games this
year, and while he has only two points, he has been a good puck carrier and has
made smart plays both offensively and defensively.
“He is a big presence out there,†Johnson said of Bordeleau. “You definitely
feel a little more comfortable when he is out on the ice. But not only can he do
that, but he can also play. I have played with a lot of tough guys in my
six-year career and he is probably the most skilled, by far.â€
He should be a priority for the new coach and Sather.

Dont need everyone to kill PKs..
Rangers desperately need guys who will play in front of the net that have some size.
Pyatt and Boyle are the only ones they have.
I'd really like to see the new coach move away from a "responsible" 4th line and into something that has more sandpaper. I think Renney and Tortorella both wanted a 4th line that they could use in defensive situations, and with Stepan, Cally, and Hagelin all being solid defensive players in their own right, having a 4th line dedicated to defense seems excessive.
Pyatt/Boyle/Dorsett would be alright, and I liked the way they played in the playoffs, but I would shop Pyatt to Carolina to see if they'd straight-swap for McBain. I'd sacrifice some size in Pyatt to bring in someone with a little more intensity and edge.

Callahan is a monster down low and in front of the net, especially on the PP. He's 5'11" but plays like he's 6'4". Nash and Kreider are options to stick in front of the net too. Pyatt and Boyle are far from being the only options we have

Cally is, but he also can get muscled against bigger defenders. Nash and Kreider dont really play that type of game.
ideally he earns a top 6 spot. I am likely going to be surprised by a move made in the offseason because I dont see who goes.
does Richards still get dumped? If he doesnt can they fit the cap?

Explain how canning Torts is an irrational move. His system wasn't working with the team. It's easier to change the coach than to change 16-18 players for new players who fit the system.

If Zucc bulks up during the offseason and adds 6-10lbs(he can do 10, at best), he'll suddenly become a guy that can knock a guy over simply because his balancepoint is that much lower on the ice.
The only real issue that Zucc's height causes is he's prone to being outwrestled since his arms are shorter.

The Rangers actually have a very solid 3rd and 4th line, if used correctly. Hagelin, Zucerello, Dorsett and Clowe are bottom 6 players. I don't care if you disagree. If we had a legit top 6 and these players on our bottom 6, we would be a force, a nightmare for teams to defend against us and score against us. We need to acquire a pure goal scorer, and no Gaborik does not fit this criteria, he's injure prone, losing his skill and speed, we need a guy who can snipe the corners and is fairly young and consistent. This is my scenario:

Only problem could be is all 3 centers wouldn't be the biggest in terms of size.
I also assume Richards gets bought out, right?
rather keep JT Miller.. Lindberg might need some time to adjust to the smaller rink in the AHL for some of the year.... rather deal Skjei than Miller... Weiss on the 3rd line.. epic fail. he is not a 3rd line center...
