I wasn't implying he isn't a shoot-first player. He is. But he is not better suited at right wing, and I don't really care if VAN fans believe that. The guy won a Selke.

Yeah, my bad.

Honestly, I'd like Kesler for Staal. Kesler is capable of playing in anyone of our three center positions. Kesler-Stepan-Brassard reminds me VERY strongly of Bergeron-Krejci-Peverley

We would need to shore up our RD situation, though. But we need to do that anyway.

As I currently see it, we have:

xxx-Stepan-Nash
Zucc-Brass-Callahan
Hags-xxx-xxx
xxx-Boyle-Asham

for our forwards. I think the entire bottom 6 needs revamping. Sparkplugs, guys with skill, we need anything. Looking at the UFA market, Dupuis would be great, but is going to ride his offensive outburst all the way to the bank. Stalberg and Bickell are two guys I would try to target.

Also, Andy macDonald from STL is an interesting name, but he might be too expensive. Torres, Penner, and Zubrus are also guys I would try to sign. I'm looking for big, tough, and fast guys to fill our bottom 6. Enough with the softies. Time for our bottom 6 to not be a tragic joke.

Kreider?

Zubrus interests me. We can roll Zuccarello-Brassard-Zubrus or Miller-Zubrus-Callahan as our 2nd and 3rd lines, respectively.

personally Hagelin isnt a "1st liner", but played great with Stepa and Nash, so I'd have no problem keeping that line together.

Dorsett, Pyatt and Powe are all signed

Using Beaver's buyout money, I think we should sign Filppula and Horton. Flip @ 3.25M, Horton at 5M. Nothing too long though, 5Y at max. This way, we avoid huge roster turnover.

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Zuccarello-Brassard-Horton
Hagelin-Filppula-Callahan
Powe-Boyle-Dorsett

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Del Zotto
Moore-Stralman

I love Filppula as our 3rd C! Our 4th line still doesn't deliver enough with Powe, Boyle and Dorsett.

I'd say let him walk. But this team needs a consistent lineup. Keeping him will do that.

This team really really needs Kreider and Miller to step up, and that means scoring 40 points. That'll go a longgggg way.

Where are we letting him walk? There's another year on his contract.

Problem is this team has a bit of a glut of 4th liners (powe, pyatt, dorsett, boyle, asham) but no 3rd liners.

Unless we are back to using Dorsett, Boyle, Pyatt as a 3rd line... which should instead be the 4th line.

Yeah, I'd love that as a fourth line.

Actually, look at caley's post in the Torts thread — statistically, they were superior to contending teams' third lines. That would arguably be the best fourth line in the league.

Don't tell Pierre that. He will tromp Campbell-Paille-Thornton all over you day and night.

yea, but its also tiny sample size of 12 or so games too.

It would be a great 4th line, but leaves the problem of needing at least 2 new guys for the 3rd line.

Zucc/Hags is going to be an issue as well.

Hagelin is capable of playing anywhere in the top 3 lines, Zucc really is only a top 6 guy. But you put Zucc on the 2nd line with Brassard and you have a very undersized line with average skating. Any bigger physical team could cause a lot of trouble against that line.

Thats always going to be the issue with Zucc unless he really shows himself to be a top level player. If hes a borderline 2nd liner, the team will have trouble finding a spot to play him.

Really they need a 3rd line center and winger. Hagelin on the 3rd line could be an excellent fit, but he needs talent around him to capitalize on his forechecking

any interest in Ryan Kesler?

at 5 mil a year for the next 3 years, plus the trade for him, plus his injuries?

No, not unless the canucks werent asking for anything significant in return.

I know the canucks have cap issues, so perhaps its a possibility.
