Colts win the Marlies Tournament, shutting out Oakville 5-0 in the Finals.

6 goals allowed in 8 games. Impressive.

@GermanSpitfire do you or anyone else know anything about these Barrie goalies?

Do we have an elite goalie for this age group like Ivankovic last year?
No, Ivankovic is a talent that doesn’t come around too often, we have none this year.

Colin Ellsworth is at the top of most lists and rightfully so - he is so calm and composed in his crease. I hope we can see him start at the Youth Olympics.

Brady Knowling I am a big fan of, he is a massive goalie already at his age and is just scratching the surface of what he can do.

Cameron Ingram has potential, he hasn’t played amazing this year but I can definitely see him starting in the OHL one day.

Thanks. I knew about Ingram, being from the North.

I'll take a look at Knowling forsure. That's a big 15 year old.

Draft has little to do with team success.
I agree but the two are close enough already. The Marlies having success would mean Valentini is continuing to elevate his game on the biggest stage against the tougher opponents. I have been impressed with Wassilyn in games i’ve watched but his play against tough teams has been underwhelming.

Marlies are a much more complete and deep team. Really shouldn't be used as any type of barometer to judge individual players.

I think there's something to be said for:

1) What do you look like when you are playing with other skilled players, can you still produce when you aren't the #1 option 5v5 and 5v4 and getting massive ice time because you probably won't be in the OHL

2) How do you look when you play against top opponents; Valentini will simply have the ability to produce a bigger resume because his team will play more top opponents

3) How do you look in high pressure situations; same as #2. Valentini will be playing in tournament finals and OHL cups, while Wassilyn will rarely see a weekend (no fault of his own)

You're right it shouldn't impact things, but Wassilyn will simply not have the opportunity to prove certain things that Valentini will; as a result, if you're picking at the top of the OHL draft, you'll have to decide - do I go with with I know and have seen, or do I go with what I project?

I mean, it's an imperfect science but there's some of them every year. That's why OHL Scouts get paid, it's to find these guys.

Here's a handful that will go after round 3 that I like:

Max Wetherup
Jordan Perrier
Ian Robinson
Owen Kelly
Reggie Taylor
Jacob Vandeven
Mateo Craievich
Sam Wathier

But I could go on..
You must like that Whitby team! Weatherup plays a solid game and they are a sneaky team

i think moderate and average players get pushed out all the time, but thats because they are average. i do know that if you show true potential that coaches and other hockey people will do alot to make it more affordable without asking for the headlines (and it doesnt get headlines either).

im a bit old and jaded maybe just because ive head 1,000 or so stories of kids who never where not make it because of every reason other then they just were not good enough. 9 times out of 10 thats why they dont get the opportunity, the ability and potential just isn't there so no one is willing to put their neck on the line for you.
I respectfully disagree, quite strongly. Talented kids are being pushed out due to the commercialization, cost and intense demands starting at atom years..
No knock against the kids in draft consideration but, I have been familiar with this birth year quite well for a long time and have seen exceptionally athletic kids pushed out.

You can add crappy coaches to the mix that don’t know how to develop the kids.

09 Jr Knights haven’t had a good coach in any of their years. It shows in the standings and the progression or lack thereof for their skill.

but thats all on parents. if there is players being pushed out due to 'intense demands' then the parenst need to be parents and not blame everyone else. if i had a $1 for every dad or kid who says they would have been nhlers had it not been for some random excuse, id have retired 10 years early. parents and kids love excuses but hate self accountability.

Quick question for those following prospects for the upcoming draft. Would this be considered a strong draft with a lot of skilled players?

Its about an average draft in terms of talent; a little more forward heavy than defense, and no goalies that anyone is super excited about. One of it's flaws is that the draft is lacking in a signature can't miss superstar prospect.

The Oakville Rangers beat the Peterborough Jr. Petes 4-3 in overtime to win the Steve Richey Memorial tournament on Sunday. Ethan Belchetz scored the OT winner in the final. He was tied with Maddox Dagenais (Quinte) for the tournament lead in points with 13
