Nah that's bullshit. Cousins has enough time to let up but instead he wants to make contact and even kind of jumps into it. There's time to stop or skate to the sides and he doesn't because we know Cousins has zero regard for player safety and saw his opportunity and took it anyway because that is just the type of player and person he is. He's a disgusting person and just as disgusting as a player.

In this one you can see Cousins can slow down or turn and he doesn't because he's an opportunistic cheap shot artist and this is right in his wheel house.

Another good view - ignore or don't ignore then commentary, bloke makes valid points either way.

Other examples this season.

Elbow high on this hit.

Cousins played the puck, he tipped it before the hit. Even the Coyote’s annoucers said there wasn’t much he could do when Valimaki dropped right before the hit. Look at the reverse angle of the whole play not just still shots or clips starting with the contact. I can’t stand Cousins but as far as dirty hits go this isn’t even close.

And the hit on McAvoy was retaliation for McAvoy’s dirty hit on OEL, isn’t that what everybody is championing here?

Head shot here, no suspension

Gudbranson hit, incredibly dirty. No suspension

Cbj players talking about it - which should have been enough for Parros to be in trouble over yet hes bulletproof. This is as much as the players can even say without being fined because questioning the league further for not doing their job means they get in trouble, not the league.

I will say, he’s pretty good at feigning ignorance/accident. “Whoa, I had no intention of hitting you in the face when I put my elbow where your face is! Why is everyone so angry?” It’s almost more obnoxious than a goon who will own being a piece of shit.

Play it all you want in super slow motion, but the Cousins hit was fine. He was simply finishing his check when Valamaki went to his knees. Three games for Zucker sounds about right.

Love it when the Panthers' color guy uses the word "nowheres." Both of them make the Coyotes' homer TV idiots seem almost tolerable.

God, I hate Cousins so much. The Gudbranson mugging and now this.. very satisfying to watch.

I wish someone could beat the scumbag out of him.
He’ll turtle when someone actually challenges him to a fight. At best it’ll be like Ryan Whitney fighting Tim Jackman with a sprinkle of Alex Semin.

If I remember correctly, the hit on McAvoy occurred in the first period, before the hit on OEL.

It was unprovoked, so no, this is an incorrect sequence of events in your mind.

Now THIS is how you respond to a perceived dirty hot on a team mate.

Big ups to Zucker worth every game of the suspension.

If Hartman had done this to Dillon for the Kaprisoft “crosscheck” I wouldn’t have liked it. But I could at least respect it as opposed to highsticking an unrelated player in the face at a face off.

Zucker - 3 games for being too much man

Hartman - $5000 fine for peeing sitting down.

Cousins is trash, but the initial replay in the OP gives a false impression. Watch the angle at 0:23 instead. He’s going in for a routine check and his target inexplicably drops to his knees at the very last second. What’s he supposed to do? He’s already committed and starting the hitting motion. He can’t teleport around the guy.

Totally understand Zucker retaliating, but that was a much more flagrant attempt to injure than the Cousins hit. Wouldn’t be surprised to see only Zucker getting a call from the league.

This hit resulted in a player being suspended for the entirety of the first round of the playoffs.

Cousins needs to be suspended

This is continually mind-boggling to me. The PA will take up for someone facing suspension (and rightly so as a member) but won’t use its voice for protesting its members from other members.
People often try to blame the NHLPA but they are duty bound to represent all players in these matters. They have no authority to punish members in the NHL. It’s not their purpose or role.

They could and should do more about educating members about head injury and promoting respectful play but that’s about all they can do.

Cousins just laying there like a little bitch too. Still not sure how he didn’t get a big suspension. Someone explain thet one to me lol
