oh poop, I hope they don’t fire me for just saying they are biased. :sarcasm:

Maybe cousins has a soft elbow then, as the defender hopped right up without even a second look at cousins and was turning to skate after the puck when Zucker arrived.
Not saying Cousins’ reputation is unfair or unearned. but valimaki went to his knees right as cousins was going to hit him. I think he tried to hold up on the hit, otherwise valimaki probably would’ve also been KO’d on his way down the ice after being hit.
The only way to ignore what Cousins did, and pass it off as nothing, is to be a shill. I haven't heard a good Bally broadcast (regardless of team) yet. They're absolute trash.

It's not about the damage inflicted. It's about the intent. And there was equal intent from both players. Cousins pops up quickly too, imo, if Zucker isn't standing over him.

Not saying Zucker doesn't deserve whatever comes to him, but if the league actually took a stand on Cousins' antics, this stuff doesn't happen.

Dear GMs,

I will take one of these scumbags out for a league minimum salary. It is clear the nhl isn’t gonna deal with its issues, and I’m honestly not gonna face repercussions. I’ll crosscheck Cousins in the jaw for 750k minus the 2 game suspension or whatever. You know my role is necessary now. Sign me, fine me, I’m out, and Cousins eats soup through a straw for 6 weeks.

Wishing you the best in the year,
A fan tired of this shit.
Someone is definitely gonna cleave Cousins upside the head like McSorley did to Brashear.

Yes, the FL announcers are very biased, and Cousins dirtbag rep precedes him, but this wasn’t really a dirt bag play this time. The guy dropped to his knees right in front of him, turning an ordinary check at the blue line into what it became.

Yeah, sure.

"COUSINS IS DIRT POS SCUMBAG LOSER"

You'd all be stroking if he was on your team, calm down.

Nice cope. I've been watching the NHL for 35 years, there have been a few players come through my team that I'm not a fan of, haven't liked, and have been embarrassed to have represent the Winged Wheel (Ott being a perfect example, in this case). Just because you don't have principles, don't project your stance on everyone else.

Beautiful hit by Zucker

Alright man, if I’m a “shill”, lmao, what do you call a person who lets their personal animosity towards someone cloud their vision and judgement, that lets them ignore the fact that valimaki put his head right on the chopping block. Cousins was right there when he dropped down in front of him, but people act like he had more than a split second to try to totally avoid any contact. Cousins has done some dirtbag things, but this wasn’t one of them.
Maybe they are judging from still frames and short Twitter blurbs.

Cousins is trash, but the initial replay in the OP gives a false impression. Watch the angle at 0:23 instead. He’s going in for a routine check and his target inexplicably drops to his knees at the very last second. What’s he supposed to do? He’s already committed and starting the hitting motion. He can’t teleport around the guy.

Totally understand Zucker retaliating, but that was a much more flagrant attempt to injure than the Cousins hit. Wouldn’t be surprised to see only Zucker getting a call from the league.

I am not so sure about that. It looks like Cousins does react to Valimaki's drop, but not in the way to avoid hitting a vulnerable player, but by leaning towards Valimaki, sticking elbow out, and, in the end, even jumping into the hit. All of the adjustments (lean, elbow, jump) are done after Valimaki drops down. And, if Cousins doesn't adjust, he would actually miss the hit, since Valimaki doesn't arrive to the point Cousins skates towards.

The whole thing takes place within like half a second. It’s not nearly enough time to process an unexpected event and then make a thought-out adjustment.

Zucker did what he was supposed to do, defending his teammate against a shitty hot.

He shouldn't have to be penalized.

Cousins’ reputation is well earned, but the Coyote player dropped to his knees to try and keep puck in the zone right as Cousins was coming at him. He didn’t leave his feet, and if there was an elbow it was because the Coyote player‘s foolish decision to go to his knees as a guy was coming in to hit him. I understand why Cousins gets no benefit or the doubt, but it looked like he tried to let up when the Coyote inexplicably dropped to his knees right in front of him. That’s why no call was made on Cousins.
(start 45 seconds in)

Thank you for the context to the hit. I’m loathe to say anything that could be defending Cousins but the hit is not as egregious as people made it sound as Valimacki was going down as the hit was coming.

Whereas Zucker’s hits was clear retribution and a hit involving the head. He should be suspended multiple games.

Ladies and gentlemen, let me tell ya, what Jason Zucker did after that hit on Valimaki by Nick Cousins, well, it was hockey at its finest. A player looking out for his teammate, that's the heart and soul of the game, folks. But you know, it's not just about hockey out there. We gotta remember our troops, the real warriors, fighting for our freedom. So, here's to them, and to the great game of hockey, where camaraderie go hand in hand.

As asked earlier in the thread. Was Cousins actually hurt or did I he get up a second later under his own power and return to the game?
