Yes this 4th liner will be the downfall of the NYR organization.

Comical.

Yup so if Brass gets a 1 year deal also then Zucc and Brass walk the bolts or the jackets then what? Oh don't worry we still have Tanner Glass, good thing we signed him.

Nope.

60 point second liners with Zuc's game deserve to get locked up, especially on a team where we have sorely lacked players of his caliber.

He has one full season with us and now he's a consistent 60pt, 2nd liner who deserves a long-term lucrative contract?

One of the few guys around the league who deserved what was coming to him as an FA takes a discount. Does anyone know Zucc's family background? This dude sure doesn't seem worried about money/security. I really hope it works out well for both him and the team in the end.

He means what he says. It is not just ******** talk in media. He early came out and said that he would take less pay to stay with the Rangers. And so he does. His goal is to be a Ranger for a long time, and win the cup with them. He just has to keep up his good play, and another great season will give him a big pay day next summer.

I can see a letter on his jersey in the future.

Oh good, Sather's playing with fire. Now watch him turn around and give Brassard something absolutely ridiculous.

Lets see how well he plays this year to deserve a long term, lucrative deal. Sather is smarter than you think. Zuccarello is highly overrated by this fan base. He's a nice player, but far from a superstar.

Zucc may have been one of the most hated players on the roster at the start of last season. Threads filled with comments like "he looks like a little kid" and "Zucc is like a lost puppy"

This isn't bad until it's bad. We have plenty of time to work out an extension. For now, the cap number helps us a lot.

If Zucc has a good first three months there is no way he should sign a contract before July 1. I love the guy, but he has the chance to cash in with another good season, whether that be here or somewhere else.

Here's some comments Zucc just made to Norwegian media..

- I'm very happy to be back, and I'm looking forward to next season.

- It's a great contract for me. One year is what worked best for both the Rangers and me right now.

Not sure what he means about that last one...

As far as Zucc leaving after this season, I have no worries. He'll stay. He likes NYC too much. But as far as next year's cap is concerned, this calls for some serious payroll acrobatics come next year.

Working class, blue collar background.

Make no mistake tho... Working class, blue collar in Norway is not in the same ballpark as working class, blue collar in the US.

I dont think its alll about money... He can make Money closer to home in the SEL and KHL.

Money is a big part but I think he wants to be here..

Let's see he gets 3.5 million, biggest pay day of his life and the Rangers get some cap relief . Zucc is a team player who loves playing here, and he will do what is best for the team. Some players should follow his example

I'm sure it means that the Rangers need the cap space now, and that he believes he'll be ready to command a more lucrative deal when he builds on his success this season.

What's so hard to understand? The Rangers get the low cap hit for this year and Zucc gets the opportunity for a bigger payday next year when the cap goes up. Win win situation.

In what world is 4-5 years at 4.5-5 lucrative?

Considering Zuke was a .5 PPG player playing under a coach who barely put him in a position to succeed, and was our best player for long stretches of this year, YES. That's the kind of player you gamble on before you have to pay them 6 million a year.

Security?

I'm sure 3.5 million dollars is sufficient for a few years, even without an income.

After taxes, and subsequently running the risk of injury and not receiving another contract, yeah, security is a real concern. This dude is a rare athlete, really seems selfless and puts the team first. Guys like him deserve to get paid.

What?

Glass can be sent down and/or traded. He is in not immovable in any way whatsoever.

If Brass and Zucc both get 1 year deals and both decide to cash out next year, Glass' salary won't be the reason they'll be unaffordable for the Rangers.

Didn't Lundqvist do something similar with the 1 year bridge deal for 4.5 million before he cashed in for 6x6.875? Wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened.

If Zucc has another season like last year, we have a Stralman situation all over again

I don't think so,I never got the feeling Stalman LOVED playing here, liked yes ,just not loved. With Zucc, you can just see how much he loves it here with his comments and they way he has embraced being a Ranger.

is he UFA after this then? Cause that sucks but I'm reading into this that they are doing so with the intention of extended him and this will help us in terms of cap this year.

I've never thought of circumventing cap this way but I think what we are seeing is you sign for 1 year 3.5M, we only get a 3.5M AAV cap hit on him this year, sign him to an extension and then only the following season do we incur the higher cap number. We can see him extended for 4 years at $4.5M say we signed him 4 years $17M (3.5, 4.5, 4.5, 4.5), this year we'd have a 4.25M cap hit so this could be a way we get 750k in cap and the cap goes up next summer, yes? we'll have more room to play with. Staal and MSL being our big UFAs. Stepan and Hagelin our big RFAs.

Glass is going to cost the Rangers Stralman, Boyle, Zuccarello, Brassard, Hagelin, St. Louis and Jeff Gorton.

Just like signing Hossa tore out the Blackhawks from the inside.

He produced one year. That is it. Zucc was our best player this year. There is no doubting that. What if he only puts up 35-40 points this year? Should we have still gambled on him for 5x5? I don't think so.

I actually really really like this contract. It makes it much much easier to sign Brass.

Theres really no argument that the brass wont revisit the long term issue in January. This has team friendly written all over it
