Internet money?Where are the Rangers finding $4.5M to give Zuccarello?
I don't see why they couldn't.

Let's say he put up 10 points next season
Whoops. Now we're stuck with 4.5mil for 5 years

He produced one year. That is it. Zucc was our best player this year. There is no doubting that. What if he only puts up 35-40 points this year? Should we have still gambled on him for 5x5? I don't think so.
We are never losing this player for nothing. Just like we didn't lose Callahan for nothing.

Lundqvist was going to be a group II in 2008. Not a group III. Zuccarello was going to get $3.5M in arbitration for one year. He didn't do the Rangers a favor.
How the **** do you only sign this guy for 1 year?
just add to the list of players we need to sign or keep next season..
Stepan
Staal
Hagelin
St Louis
now Zucc.
great
They can negotiate a long-term deal in January. I think this is actually a slick move by Sather. He gets him for a cheap cap-hit this season, and then will give him a longer term extension in January. It's a clever way of circumventing the cap by not having this year's cap-hit affect the long term average.
Sometimes you've got to read between the lines, fellas.
This is a smart move.
Except if Zucc leaves, its almost guaranteed not by his unwillingness to drop his salary, which is what Callahan refused to do.
No arbitration, Rangers leading point scorer, McDonald award winner, locker room favorite, playoff performer. You're a special kind of pessimistic sadist if you don think he'll get offered long term in january.
There isnt any reason why the Rangers would consider trading him. He's part of the teams future, with Stepan, Kreider, McDonagh, Girardi and Hank. And Nash, sadly, unless he delivers the goods next season
People said the same thing about Callahan. The Rangers would have traded Girardi as well.

Yeah but Zucc isn't a selfish pr*ck like Callahan.
How do you know? People weren't calling Callahan a selfish ***** after he signed his last RFA deal either...
Technically it wouldn't be safe to lock up any player in the nhl with this mindset.
Except most players have had more than one solid season
