I think in Scandinavian countries making the most money possible all the time is not the most important thing, IMO it's just the culture. North America, especially the US is quite different. (And this coming from someone that identifies more with US culture).

Dingdingding!

We got NAV so its all good. We like winning, money gets to us one way or another:D

MSL will likely resign for less next year then he is currently making. Zucc and MSL could likely flip flop contracts next summer. I'm fine with that.

Anytime a player agrees to sign for less than his expected arb award, it's a very good thing. With regards to the single-year term, the Rangers couldn't afford the AAV this year if they were buying out some of his UFA years. They'll get an extension done during the year.

Yes, the cap hit is great.. the term not so much.

all a moot point IF they get something done.. Callahan was a "sure thing" at one point we thought too remember

It's all part of the plan.

Congrats on the raise Zucc. Now go out and earn that long term deal. I think he's gonna have a solid campaign and get paid like a boss.

Hopefully after this season MSL will play on bonus laden 1 year deals like Jagr is doing. Worse comes to worse he hits all the bonuses and they roll over to the following season if the Rangers are over the cap.

They'll get it done. No reason for Zucc to accept a one-year deal at discount before his hearing unless both sides have an under-the-table agreement that they'll extend him with a higher-than-award AAV during the season.

After some thought, i liked the contract. It gives the organization more leeway in signing the rest of our RFA's, and it gives them another 6 months to observe Zucc to see if he keeps his level of play (then start new contract talks come January if so, and sign him long term way before his impending UFA status becomes an issue).

It also gives people here who doubt him another year to watch him without him being locked up on a "ridiculous" contract (of course, most are probably going to just harp on with the same "he has only played 2 full seasons" next year...lol).

And for the record, Zucc has stated MANY times over the years that money is not the motivating factor for him. In one interview when the Norwegian media speculated like nuts earlier this year, he said that money wasn't important as such, winning was.

I took that to mean that he'd happily sign for less if it meant that the Rangers as a whole came out as a stronger contender.

Who do we sign first (or at all) next year now?

Stepan?
MSL?
Staal?
Zucc?
Hagelin?
probably add Brassard to that list?

and you thought this off season was hard for the Rangers to keep their players?

Stepan and Hagelin are RFAs. Not as big a worry as the rest.

MSL will be turning 40 next off season. Don't see the Rangers giving him a multi year deal. If the Rangers have cap issues next season I can see him signing a one year $4-5 million contract with half being bonuses.

I can't see MSL trying to hold up the Rangers unless he wants to look like a total and complete hypocrite. Is he going to sign with the Islanders or Devils? I doubt it.

Umm what? That's what I was saying. He will take less money then he was making now with half being bonuses so if the Rangers ran into cap issues some of those bonuses could be deferred to the next season.

I think MSL will play and play well for another 3-4 years but I think he signs one year contracts the rest of the way.

The "Rangers didn't have the space to sign him" argument is pretty damn tired to me.

Not to keep harping on it, but especially when a portion of that lack of space is due to signing Tanner Glass for $1.5M.

Just doesn't make sense to me, unless there is real fear that Zucc won't even be worth $4.5M over the next 5 years. Locking in Zucc at that rate vs having Tanner Glass, space to acquire who knows what bust at the deadline, and a $5.5M++ Zucc as a UFA next summer (if they can keep him vs his market rate) is a no friggin brainer.

I mean, Ryan Callahan's UFA status and Henrik Lundqvist's UFA status became an issue looooong before January.

I have no doubt there is a handshake deal in place. And I have no doubt the Zucc is a good guy and wants to stay here and win. What if he is on a 40-50 point pace on a struggling team and the Rangers re-think their offer? Think that could sour Zucc's position? What if he gets some insane Pouliot-esque whispers from his agent that he is a $6.5M x 6 player on the market? Until the ink is dry we are all just hoping and guessing.

Do you think that's the case here?

I think he got basically what he would have gotten in arbitration. The Rangers would have argued he didn't do much outside of last year. I just wish we got to see what numbers they were presenting to the arbitrator, would have come out tomorrow with the Friday hearing.

I imagine Zucc's side would have said 4.5 and the Rangers would have been at 3. So maybe he gets 3.6-3.7 if he went to arb?

Let's see he gets 3.5 million, biggest pay day of his life and the Rangers get some cap relief . Zucc is a team player who loves playing here, and he will do what is best for the team. Some players should follow his example

I think his payday in russia was a very litlle bit better. Around 2 M USD...tax free. They are at least in the similar gate,no? And then he left a lot of money on the table, to sign here for 1,15. He had a two years contract in Russia.
But then he probably had seen the last of NHL.

I think its very likely he does lead the team in points, and it would've been nice to have him at 4.5 instead of 6.

I disagree on the 6, he wants term, as he has always stated that. Believe it or not, there are actually some players who rather have the security and take less in dollars. Zucc by his attitude and stating how he wants to be here and just win. Hey, every once in awhile we get a Pro Athlete who is old school. Doesn't happen a lot, but in this case I see it in Zucc

This is awful deal for the Rangers! They can not give Zucc, Stepan, Stall, MSL all big raises next year. Zucc and Stepan will kill them next year. If these two have 55-60 point seasons there both going to demand 6 million a year. Stall is getting 5.5 to 6. All Sather did was push this down the street a year.

If he doesn't sign Moore and Falk late last year he would of got Step signed to a longer term and he did the same thing this year with the glass and Stemp signings. This whole team will be turned over in less than three years with this monkey running the team. Very sad!!
