People said the same thing about Callahan. The Rangers would have traded Girardi as well.
You kinda circumvented my first line in that post which negated what you just said

Because this is the second time Zucc has taken a pay cut to stay with the team. If he has gone through arbitration this year he would have gotten more money. This contract just sets up a long term deal. He took a cut last year to help re-sign Stepan. That's just the type of guy he is.
You kinda circumvented my first line in that post which negated what you just saidCallahan left because he mistook his value to the Rangers organization. That seemingly isnt the case here
And if he plays great again this season he'll have even more than he would in arbitration. Stop with this "that's the type of guy he is." These players are all about the money, that's why a majority of RFA contracts get caught up on years. These players want to reach UFA as fast as possible.
so basically the people in favor of this deal are admitting that Zucc isn't as good as he was last season?.. well herés the "prove it" deal.. and when he does, that 4.5M per goes out the windoww.
Not everyone. Take Tom Brady, for example. Takes a huge pay cut so the Patriots can sign better players. Some players prefer to win and take less because they are getting payed a hell of a lot of money regardless.

Nice to see some of you get it.
This was our chance to get value in having Zucc under 5 mill for 4 years.
We get a nice deal for one year, then what.
Huge list of players to retain after this year. Can't wait for yet another retooled roster because this front office only signs guys for 1-2 years at a time.
There's always 29 other teams…
Oh yeah, I'm a bad fan because I say negative things.
Sorry I'm not the type of fan who thinks everything is daisys when the team makes a mistake.
Guess I'm not a TRUE FAN like you
No you're just the type of fan who post childish "sky is falling" posts after everything
This is how the Rangers do things, get over it already.
You sure know a lot about my posting habits for a poster whos only been here since June, don't you?
Hm.
You've had a ton of material for me to work with in my short time here. Not that hard to come by.
And for the most part, I really don't have a problem with signing our RFAs to bridge deals to save cap.
But this is a different circumstance. Really think we had a chance to get some long term value here and now that doesn't seem likely.
But what's the difference between now and January when we can extend him again? Which I think we will. I think this deal helps us for this year since we are in a squeeze, which probably be the case next year with the expected large cap raise which was supposed to happen this offseason. I think this is a smart deal.
You think hes going to take the same $4.5 he was asking for if hes having another good year?
One of the few guys around the league who deserved what was coming to him as an FA takes a discount. Does anyone know Zucc's family background? This dude sure doesn't seem worried about money/security. I really hope it works out well for both him and the team in the end.
