He reminds me a bit of Ryan Getzlaf. People were also saying he is nothing special until their teams meet Ducks in the playoffs.

Ehhh, only if you're comparing vision.

Getzlaf was 6'4" and if you pissed him off he could body anyone and turn into the best player in the world on any given night

If you piss Zegras off he's just gonna chirp you from behind the refs, let his teammates fight for him, and complain to the media after

There's a LONG evolution in between TZ of now and what TZ will be. Right now he looks like a guy sniffing his own farts and believing the hype while trying to generate viral clips instead of winning games. I think he grows out of that in short order once the team gets better.

Yes, it’s not an insult but IMO, a superstar is a Kane, MacDavid, Crosby or Ovechkin. Zegras is not going to hit that level but still good.
So now we're retrofitting the term "superstar" to basically encompass only the very best of the best? As though it wasn't bad enough that people have rewritten "elite" to mean the best 2-3 players at a given position.

I'll never understand modern hockey fans' need to rewrite every descriptive term until they are all exclusive only to potential Hart/Norris winners.

Well. I mean if he's just inhaling his own farts and trying to get on the highlight reel every shift, sky must really be the limit when he starts getting serious if he's posting 60+ points while just dicking around.

duck fans would say

Zegras terry have been great

Mctavish Henrique and Gibson have been good

Fowler was put in a no win situation
I'd say Terry then MacT then Z and Henrique.

While I get the defence he plays behind, Gibson has been good, but too many years of inconsistency, he is what he is now.

Zegras has prob been the best of those 4, it’s close between him and terry

Yes he is as good as Hughes.l
No he isn't. Stop.

McTavish looks to be coming along very nicely and it's not impossible for him to end up the better player but there's no argument that he's been better than Zegras this season. None.

I'm not sure what this stems from? He has had 60 point+ season on a very bad Ducks team. Now he is pacing for around that. It's not unimpressive to have that as 9th overall pick. Ask Rangers about Kravtsov if you want to compare picks.

I’m not rewriting anything. Superstar has always described a franchise player or top tier celebrity and always will.

And elite? Feel free to look up the definition. If you want to water those down to calling every top 6 player elite or a superstar, be my guest but it’ll be you changing the definition, not me.

Superstar > elite. A superstar player is MacDavid, an elite one is Tavares. Top 10 at your position = elite. Top 2 = superstar.

I have a hard time reading what a leafs fan thinks is superstar, elite or anything else. Especially after they don't know it's McDavid.

Those are all 1st overall picks... hopefully the Ducks will get one of those this year (not going to happen), but Zegras has/will likely surpass his draft position. As a Ducks fan, I'm happy with that. He's probably a top 3-5 player in his draft class while being picked at 9.

Out of curiosity, what was the change in definition? No one called Zegras a superstar.
The second sentence of the original post where OP said he might become a superstar. I countered that his ceiling is a poor man’s Patrick Kane because I believe he will never be a superstar.

That’s fine he can be a popular star player and bring new fans to the sport…. That’s very good value out of a 9th overall pick

it's a gen z hate thing

mainly due to the lacrosse style goals and the NHL video game commercial
I would've thought it would be the boomers that couldn't stand him, not playing "meat and potatoes hockey" and "if he did that in my beer league, I'd take his head off"

I know you're trying to make a dumb smug joke, but despite your best efforts, yes, I agree.
