Ducks fans, what do you think Zegras’s ceiling is? I’m having a tough time figuring him out.

His utmost ceiling if he realizes every ounce of his potential? Datsyuk type.

Before anyone completely brushes that off, Datsyuk didn't even debut in the NHL until he was two years older than Zegras is now.

He will be a solid PPG to maybe cracking 100 points in his peak season but not a sure fire top 10 player in the league.

Maybe a John Tavares type of career?

yeah absolutely

I was mostly just trying to highlight that if Zegras was polling well against Hughes a couple years ago then that had way more to do with Hughes being super underrated than anything to do with Zegras, the guy used to lose polls to Kakko all the time around here and got blown out in polls against Lafreniere
The fact of the matter is you just don't know. Look at Terry or Thompsons polls from 2 years ago. I don't recall any of the hockey gurus that predicted Hughes calling either of those guys.

What I don't get is all the talk that Terry is the best forward on the Ducks. Like yeah. He has four years of development on Zegras; he better be. But the point doesn't really carry much and only serves to show that people should be a bit more patient from Zegras when considering that Terry didn't really break out until his fourth year in the NHL. Before that he was part of a duo of him and Sam Steel as players that Ducks fans were on the verge of giving up hope that they'd be anything special. Zegras on the other hand, has been very productive in his first two years in the NHL and especially this year, where Anaheim has a historically low goal differential, the fact that he has as many points as he does is impressive.

Is he ever going to challenge for an Art Ross trophy? Probably not. But if he dedicates himself and the Ducks start playing better hockey he can comfortably be an 80-90 point player, especially in a higher scoring NHL. He's already pretty close to a 70 point pace on a team with still developing talent that currently has the best odds for the first overall pick. Considering he was a 9th overall pick, that's a pretty big win for Anaheim.

As has been mentioned, people take the fact that the NHL shone a light on him because of some impressive highlight reel moments to twist things around like he's the most overrated player in the league. And yet outside of a Hughes vs. Zegras poll taken before Hughes' breakout, I've never seen anyone, Ducks fans included, describe Zegras with more optimism than what I talked about in the above paragraph. If anything that Hughes v. Zegras poll was more anti-Hughes than pro-Zegras, with people ready to write the former off as first overall pick disappointment. And I'll admit, I thought it was closer than it was. Today if you ask me, I'd say Zegras' ceiling is where Hughes is right now, but a lot has to go right with his development and/or someone like Bedard needs to be on his wing. But I truly don't understand where people get that he's the most overrated player in the league. Reactionary nonsense without an ounce of consideration for context.

Hes good for the game, got to see his punk ass shit disturber side this season. Skilled and creative which is fun to watch. He is also like a more cowardly, less tough (somehow?) version of Tkachuck...which makes for some fun antics.

He could end up being Patrick Kane lite, or if he doesn't mature Jonathan Drouin.

He is fine, though I think he concentrates too much on the nifty plays instead of what is best in the situation.

To be really fair, if the poll was taken after JH first 157 games, he had 37G and 61 assists, which shouldn't lead anyone to believe he would certainly catch fire like he did. Zegras has 45G and 77 assists after his first 157. The kid is def cocky, but I'll take that over lacking confidence, and gripping the stick all day long. Both kids are fine young hockey players, and as silly as Hf can be at times, I've NEVER seen so much talk about a 9th overall 21 year old player being OVERRATED. If someone buys into media hype without watching a player, that's not the media's fault, it's their own fault. Guys his age or older selected 9th or earlier: Dach, Turcotte, Kakko, Svech, Kravtsov, Kotki, Hayton, Zadina, Hischier, Patrick, Glass, Lias A, Mitts, Rassmussen. Where dey at???? Last point I'll make is replace Derek Grant with Jesper Bratt, and put Zegras on the leagues 3rd best team instead of a team dead last with a -101 goal differential, and I'd bet dimes to donuts he has even better stats than he has now.
Couldn't get past this post.

Did you just imply that Andrei Svechnikov and Nico Hischier aren't phenomenal players?

No, they're fine young players, but they aren't above Zegras level. So seeing they went #1 and #2 overall, shouldn't THEY be the ones people claim are overrated? I wasn't knocking the players, just saying that if Zegras is overrated, then they all must be, too. The logic would dictate.

Jack Eichel laughs
Are you trying to use Eichel as an example that Zegras is overrated? That would be about hilarious. If you're trying to claim Eichel is the saving grace on a roster worse than Anaheim's, that would be even more hilarious.

I'm very impressed with his skill and offensive development. I'm very underwhelmed by his defensive play and attitude.

Depends what you thought he was going to be right now he's at where I thought he would be just slightly underperforming my personal expectations

Personally, what I think will hold him back is not having a strong leader in place on the roster so early in his career. He needs a Perry or a Getzlaf to help guide and shape him so early. At this point, if they get someone like that, he's likely not going to benefit from it. He will eventually mature, no doubt, but I think there will be a little bit of lost overall potential having to put up with the roster he has.

Good player, could benefit from having a few solid vets on his team.

Seems to put himself in situations with his mouth he has no business being in though. That could be frustration of being on a team that loses a lot though, who knows.

has a personality that's for sure and draws attention, which is good for the league, but the kid needs to mature on the ice to get to a different level that he has the skills for. Just my dime store 2 cents

We are literally the worst defensive team of all time at this point (GA wise). We never have the puck.... if you aren't impressed by a 21 year old putting up these numbers.... on this roster than I suggest you torture yourself through a single entire Ducks game.... any single one of them and see for yourself.

Was at the game this past monday for the away game at the Panthers.

I noticed Anaheim for stretches would just be playing catch up and the Panthers really were able to rack up shots on goal/possession. Really let Gibson out to dry too many times. But I was impressed with the Ducks ability to convert those first two goals around the net. Right place/right time or good setup but I thought if they could be better defensively that they could have a quicker retool time.

I noticed Zegras out there. He should be a star soon enough.

Right now he doesn't look like the type of 1C you win a cup with but I'd give him the benefit of the doubt since he's being coached by Eakins.
