Keeping him hurts the team. He's not a NHL player anymore. You're dreaming if you think a team takes him for free.
Don't have a horse in this race, and frankly love seeing the Leafs lose.....but how is a guy averaging 20 mins a night on a pretty good team "not an NHL player anymore". I get that he has deficiencies but he's a 40 point dman that multiple teams see fit to play 20 mins a night, by any definition he is an NHL dman.

He's shit at RD, I saw him a ton of Chicago, every bit of a RD as McCabe was, you're putting him there but he won't thrive. His mobility/hands don't allow for him to have success there.

He's worth something like a 3rd, similar to what Schenn pulled and Calgary might need to either retain salary OR take a contract back of similar value because the cap is all about $ in/$ out.

Ex, Klingberg + 3rd for Zadorov (saves retention slots for guys like Hanifin, Tanev and Lindholm)

If Calgary does better than this, fantastic but I wouldn't exactly count on it.
Calgary wouldnt bother if they cant do better than that.

Watch him play tonight. He's back in the lineup. The Leafs are a bottom 3 team defensively this year.

Yeah, he's really stepped up his game since leaving Chicago. We've seen massive improvement while in Calgary, and if he landed a 3rd then, it's not far fetched to think he'll land more now.

Watch him play where? In the NHL?
Yes, he's obviously in the NHL. Stop being pedantic. Not sure what you are arguing. He is not an NHL caliber player anymore. His having to play 20 minutes a night is one of the prime reasons why the Leafs defense has fallen so far since last year. Watch him play or go ask the Leafs board .

Klingberg will take a 2nd to dump himself

No he won't.

Guys just get included to offset salaries, look at Craig Smith last year at 3.1M, cleared waivers etc on Boston...went in the deal for Orlov and Hathaway. Why?

$$ needed to equal out.

Backes, Barrie etc as other examples.

Nothing against Calgary on my end but I will be surprised if it ends up being much more than a 3rd round pick.

I think everyone has time and would love a guy like Zadorov on their roster but there are 2 things to remember. Ultimately, he should be on your 3rd pairing and he makes a lot more than the usual guys on the 3rd pairing, he's not an easy piece to fit.

Could Calgary squeeze an extra 5th-7th? Maybe? They might also prefer a prospect vs picks as we saw with them targeting Sharangovich in that Toffoli deal.

He’s going to be valuable just because of his style alone. TO fans need to realize that if they want to ditch Klingberg and acquire him at the same time it is going to hurt.

Calgary will have a market for him. Washington didn’t create a market for Orlov for some reason

Always a market for defenseman but there is a ceiling typically for what you'd want to pay.

Calgary is likely getting a haul for Hanifin and I think they'll still do well on Tanev but they're guys that can play in your top 4.

I think if you're relying on Zadorov in the top 4, you have problems.

I get it, he struggles on the defensive side of the game. But he's an NHL talent, and will keep getting contracts ahead of AHL guys.

Well then there is always Beauvillier
Here's the thing, the Flames already have a billion wingers. So the last thing they need or would ever want is another middle winger, especially a sub-6' one given they already have two of those in the forms of Coronato and Pelletier, who will both almost certainly be on the team next year. The Flames need defense and futures.

If the Canucks have cap issues, it's on them to resolve it and offer the Flames what they want/need, otherwise Conroy will just look to the Leafs or Devils or any of the other teams interested that would better match his needs.

Just of note. Calgary has multiple scouts in Detroit this afternoon, including Head Scout Steve Pleau for Columbus/Detroit game.

Well that's ominous

Klingberg is fine to include if they are getting good value. A 3rd is not good value.

Can't see anyone giving up a 1st for him, but guess you never know. Probably some combo of salary back + B prospect + 2nd/3rd depending on how intense the interest.

Orlov pulled a 1st+2nd..as he should, he's good top 4 defenseman

Hathaway pulled a 3rd+Craig Smith...

Hathaway got market value but did require taking back Craig Smith

Everyone is in LTIR and taking back a bad contract to get a trade done is apart of the business.

Would not at all be if Calgary flipped Klingberg for a 5th-7th later near the TDL lol.

Also think Nashville didn't want Barrie for an extra year but cost of getting the Ekholm deal done in a tight cap landscape.
