That's not true at all. Its hyperbole.

Its the Bracco effect that Leaf fans can't escape. A belief that your trash prospects are made of gold because you view them through rose colored glasses.

No one wants a Hirvonen/Steeves etc. Those are trash prospects and you know it.

Do you know who Hirvonen is or? Do you watch world junior where he is routinely on Finlands top line and scoring at a great pace in the mens league while being elite defensively and gritty? He's only 21 just came to North America his stock will go up as the season goes on and he has time to adjust

Yes, surely we should draw all conclussions about players with hundreds of NHL games from 14 games this season.
He was excellent last season as well.

Yeah, he will be the next Tyler Myers if he gets a big contract. There is a small chance he puts it all together but every time he has moved up because of injuries he has been over his head. Totally the type of Dman I'd over pay for a run if I thought my team was close though

lol no he doesn't
He definitely has. Conroy thinks so, so do I.

I know exactly who he is. What's your point?

Doesn't change the fact that he's a dime-a-dozen prospect that every team has copious amounts of.

And he was the best defencemen end of season last year on the Flames. His pro’s are way higher than his con’s. Under rated.
End of last season him and Weegar were both really good. I'd give it to Weegar. Ras hasn't been the same since the unfortunate incident last season. He's not our best D anymore

The other truism of HF Boards.

Once Zadorov is traded, Flames fans will pivot and talk smack about how awful he really was in a veiled attempt to justify a trade win.

HFBoards 101.
Tell me you don’t watch Zadorov play without telling me you don’t watch Zadorov play 101.

Just stop lol you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about

So are you in the Zadorov standalone = a 1st round pick camp?

Also known as the "Delusional Club"....

If Conroy thought that then Zadarov would be locked up on the 6 year deal he wants.

He really thinks he'll get 6 years? Maybe if it's 1M/yr. You don't sign bottom pairing guys to term, you sign cheap players through FA or trade/develop. I respect Conroy for holding firm and not signing these guys to crazy deals. At this point to only FA should be interested in keeping is Hanifin.

Yeah, it already came out in the summer that he tried to engage the Flames on a long term contract after his best season and they didn't bite.

There’s gonna be lots of interest. The Flames need to get a dman in return, but if people think the Leafs are just gonna be able to swap Klingberg for him, we’re fooling ourselves.

I’d look for a team (who wants an upgrade on D) who has an NHL dman Calgary would actually want, with either team control or a little term, and probably a pick or mid grade prospect to go with it. They can’t go into the off-season with only 2 NHL dmen under contract, and need a dman for this season too. They’ll just move that dman later, or use him for the next year or two.

They can’t go into July 1 needing 4 dmen, it could really mean a bad 24-25 season.

Any team that needs Calgary to retain, or take salary back, is gonna have to pay with a 1st rounder or a higher quality prospect with a lower pick. Others can get away with quality NHL dman and a 2nd or 3rd, or good prospect probably.

This is the type of deal with Dubas written all over it.

Pittsburgh
Olivier-Joseph with a 1st or equivalent prospect in return for Zadorov with retention.

Others

Canucks
Myers w/retention, Podkolzin and a pick… to make it work, they have to send money. Just think Calgary is gonna want a dman with control or term. Zadorov can play both sides well btw.

Columbus
Jake Bean/Peeke and a pick/prospect
Peeke might not be what they want though. He’s bad. One of the goals this afternoon, I’m not even gonna speculate what was going through his mind. Bean could be of interest though.

Detroit
Maatta/Holl and a pick/prospect
Detroit has prospect capital to make moves like this and upgrade their blue line. Calgary can get Maatta and an Emil Viro, Tuomisto or one of the Johansson dmen. Anton Johansson is having a really good year in the SHL. Very sneaky prospect. Several good prospects to choose from.

Toronto
Klingberg and a 1st.
Like Canucks, they’ll have to make it worth it for Calgary. Maybe they can get away with Timmons or Benoit and a 1st for Zadorov with retention. Just think that’s gonna have to be a 1st rounder because of the money.

With all the waves Zadorov has made recently, they’ll likely grant his wish and get him out of there pretty quick.

Zadorov would be a perfect fit for the Pens bottom pair, but they cannot afford him without massive retention or somehow losing Carter. Pens aren’t trading a 1st for a bottom pairing dman though.

Just of note. Calgary has multiple scouts in Detroit this afternoon, including Head Scout Steve Pleau for Columbus/Detroit game.

He may shoot left, but he can play both sides.

He's shit at RD, I saw him a ton of Chicago, every bit of a RD as McCabe was, you're putting him there but he won't thrive. His mobility/hands don't allow for him to have success there.

He's worth something like a 3rd, similar to what Schenn pulled and Calgary might need to either retain salary OR take a contract back of similar value because the cap is all about $ in/$ out.

Ex, Klingberg + 3rd for Zadorov (saves retention slots for guys like Hanifin, Tanev and Lindholm)

If Calgary does better than this, fantastic but I wouldn't exactly count on it.
