I personally do this because I think the Canucks should go for it during Demko's prime and cheap contract but I also believe that Willander will be better than Dobson in 3 or less years

24 year old RHD in the last year of his RFA deal. Scored 70 points last year on a team no one would confuse for an offensive juggernaut. Very bad in his own zone.

Islanders most likely looking for a hockey trade for a similarly aged and valued player, or slightly below with value made up by prospects/picks.

Islanders want futures - whether it's top picks, top prospects, or young roster players. They aren't looking for next year bounce back in the scoring department only. Panarin's next deal is completely irrelevant to his current deal. He's needed on NYR for offense and you can't get around that by grabbing another solid dman, one that most likely doesn't take Fox's powerplay time. He'd become another Miller in the lineup when you're not even using him to his fullest ability. You don't blow your open window because one of your highest valued players will stop being valuable when the contract runs out.

Also, and I'm sure it's been brought up within the rest of the responses - Raty isn't in their organization anymore.

As an Isles fan, the only way we're trading Dobson is if we're absolutely blown away. The Isles don't have to settle for anything when they're trading a 70-point 24yr old RHD. The only possible way I see a trade is if its a RHD prospect who close/in the nhl + a stud young nhler (< 24yr). I'm not as interested in picks unless its literally a top 5-8 pick this year, future draft picks don't help us at all. This trade is probably with one of the bottom dwellers who are ready to part with their best prospects to start performing now. I know this limits a lot of teams but that's kind of the point since in reality it shouldn't and probably won't happen at all.

deal has to be reworked if possible

As far as Rs are concerned, the smart play is to gradually move all higher priced vets, probably Kreider the exception, for quality youth which extends window w/better depth + cap mgmt

As for Is, the question is what is the best return on the table.

He has been very hot and cold in his young career. He puts together 50-60 games where he looks like a top 10 defenseman, but then he will go off the rails for a bit and make a lot of bone headed plays. Thus far he hasn’t been good this season, but hopefully he shakes it off soon.

Didn’t watch that one game but none of his deficiencies have anything to do with the PP. Hes a top ten PPQB at the very worst
