Willander
Hoglander

I personally do this because I think the Canucks should go for it during Demko's prime and cheap contract but I also believe that Willander will be better than Dobson in 3 or less years

Isn't there this thing called a salary cap? How do you fit him in next year?

Canucks should be interested in him, and if the earlier comments are true, Barzal too.

Petey, Garland, Hogs and Vinnie D (RHD and Salary)for Brazal, Dobson, and Pageau (salary)... Flame away.

24 year old RHD in the last year of his RFA deal. Scored 70 points last year on a team no one would confuse for an offensive juggernaut. Very bad in his own zone.

Islanders most likely looking for a hockey trade for a similarly aged and valued player, or slightly below with value made up by prospects/picks.
From Montreal, one of our young D and young forwards. Maybe the Flames first? Although that sounds a bit much. Struble and Kapanen?

Panarin 11.6+ x 2 retained 5.6+ to 6 even
Trouba 8 x 2 retained 3.0 to 5 even

for

Dobson + raty

presumes both waive b'c LI is close enuf
bread not sniffing 11+ w/Rs
he will not leave now -- local NJ/LI possible exception -- but will waive before last min to avoid ugly look if he is not extended

Trouba has been good but we have elc Mancini + want cap space
next season, his wife finishing current commitments, Trouba nets nice return prob from DET

bread you get dibs on if you want to extend and how much, and

if you need a short term cap dump for balance, we may be able to add
This is so bad for both teams.
Islanders want futures - whether it's top picks, top prospects, or young roster players. They aren't looking for next year bounce back in the scoring department only. Panarin's next deal is completely irrelevant to his current deal. He's needed on NYR for offense and you can't get around that by grabbing another solid dman, one that most likely doesn't take Fox's powerplay time. He'd become another Miller in the lineup when you're not even using him to his fullest ability. You don't blow your open window because one of your highest valued players will stop being valuable when the contract runs out.

Also, and I'm sure it's been brought up within the rest of the responses - Raty isn't in their organization anymore.

As an Isles fan, the only way we're trading Dobson is if we're absolutely blown away. The Isles don't have to settle for anything when they're trading a 70-point 24yr old RHD. The only possible way I see a trade is if its a RHD prospect who close/in the nhl + a stud young nhler (< 24yr). I'm not as interested in picks unless its literally a top 5-8 pick this year, future draft picks don't help us at all. This trade is probably with one of the bottom dwellers who are ready to part with their best prospects to start performing now. I know this limits a lot of teams but that's kind of the point since in reality it shouldn't and probably won't happen at all.

Habs shouldn't be in on this if he's as bad defensively as some are stating in here.

I acknowledge forgetting Raty was dealt
deal has to be reworked if possible

As far as Rs are concerned, the smart play is to gradually move all higher priced vets, probably Kreider the exception, for quality youth which extends window w/better depth + cap mgmt

As for Is, the question is what is the best return on the table.
I saw some crazy ass props I don't believe.
bread = scoring now which facilitates moving others
also = dibs on if he wants to extend here at a number LI likes

He has been very hot and cold in his young career. He puts together 50-60 games where he looks like a top 10 defenseman, but then he will go off the rails for a bit and make a lot of bone headed plays. Thus far he hasn’t been good this season, but hopefully he shakes it off soon.

Moving Panarin for Dobson doesn't extend the window, it closes the current window. We don't have anything to make up for the loss of Panarin. Even if you want to say he goes invisible in the playoffs, we still need to get there. We can look at 2 years down the road and say it would be great to have a Dobson now, but we absolutely need Panarin unless they find a replacement.

Even with OP saying Dobson is terrible defensively, people are still offering a boatload for a guy who will use his 70 point season to get a way too above his on ice value contract.

Lou had a window to rip someone off.
FWIW he wasn’t getting this criticism at this time last year, when the team was getting drilled with injuries on D and he was asked to do a ton. He tailed off a bit at the end and people attributed it to running out of gas but I wonder if a lot of this is just struggling to find his game under a new system with Roy.

So… I’m not convinced that the window is closed yet if they decide to move him in a retool/rebuild.
