As much as I love Boeser, I would not mind trading him later or letting him walk as UFA and using that money towards Dobsons new contract.

I'd much rather build from the back end out and have a solid solid foundation of Hughes, Hronek, Dobson and then have someone like Lekkerimaki replace Boeser next year.

It's possible to fit both but you have to hope for a sizeable cap raise, that's not counting what to do when Hughes needs a new deal in 2 years. Hoglander probably also has to be included.

From the Oilers:

1st rd pick (2024 or 2025), Matthew Savoie, 2nd.

I know this isn’t a great hockey trade but I think it’s closeish value wise

Maybe move Sorokin? Colorado sure could use him, though I have no idea how that would fit cap wise, and clearly you guys wouldn't withhold cap.
Moving Sorokin basically means committing to a full rebuild and blowing everything up. Don't think management will do that, especially with a shiny new arena that they'd like to fill. But you can probably sell them on having a crappy year and a half if it means they're competitive for the 4 or 5 years after that.

I think getting close enough to the Hagens pick to try and trade up for him would be enticing to ownership as well. The dude actually grew up an Isles fan... we don't get a lot of those. They'd sell a lot of jerseys...

Don't think Isles would bite here

Lou being Lou, the trade would likely be one for one with Lou targeting a less offensively skilled but more dependable player. He'd also like someone with some term so it's a tricky trade to pull off. To get good value Dobson would have to agree to a sign and trade unless the trade return player is in the same boat in needing a new deal. I don't see Lou trading him for picks prospects or multiple lesser younger players. I'm not sure Lou would move him straight up for Pettersson if it was solely his decision. I presume Barzal and Duclair are returning this season so it's not as if the Islanders have much cap flexibility. He's an excellent player and teams will absolutely make good offers but will they make offers Lou considers good is a whole other story.

I personally do this because I think the Canucks should go for it during Demko's prime and cheap contract but I also believe that Willander will be better than Dobson in 3 or less years
I mean personally I don't love it but Lou does love his Terriers

Yeah, Petterson would basically be impossible to pull off unless we lost someone like Barzal or Horvat for the rest of the year. Still would be a tough squeeze in the offseason but it could be done

Vancouver probably wouldn't do that. Dobson is excellent but a healthy Pettersson is one of the best centers in the league.

Can I interest you in one slightly-used Jacob Trouba? He's similarly bad defensively, but offers more gritz/60 with less UsefulOffensiveProductionz/60, and he's already signed for an extra year, so you don't even have to negotiate on an extension immediately!

Reinbacher or Mailloux
Owen Beck
Adam Engstrom
CAL/FLA 2025 1st
Habs 2026 2nd + Columbus 2026 2nd.

Josh Anderson for salary matching :sarcasm:

Deal is only valid if he agrees to a long-term extension with Montreal first.

Throw in 3 #1's and a 6-month cruise and I'll think about it

He needs to stay on the Rangers. Long Island doesn’t have any proper art studios for him to utilize.

I’d pass on this as an Islanders fan. The late 1st, 2nds and overhyped prospects/minor leaguers just don’t do it for me. Going to have to upgrade that pick and/or substantially upgrade the prospects.

Wouldn't mind an elite young offensive RHD for the sharks, but doubt we want to pay the cost. We are still a few years away from chasing a guy like this.

I'd rather draft Hagens, Martone or Schaefer with our 1st

He's incredible offensively but there are those who think his defensive lapses outweigh his offensive contributions. There's also scenario where we go for a big shakeup this season and moving from Dobson might be one of the most effective ways to do it. The team is underperforming and filled with immovable contracts - Now we have Barzal, Pelech, and Duclair out long term. In addition Romanov and Reilly are out for a while. Despite Sorokin looking Vezina caliber again, we will likely be among the bottom teams after the first quarter of the season, and will need to make a decision on Palmieri and Nelson at the deadline (or before).

Removing those three players from the team should net us some valuable assets while making the team worse and increasing our lottery odds. Dobson is probably the player that gains us the largest return on the market. Dealing those three players this year allows us to significantly reshape the roster while kickstarting a re-tool and potentially puts us in the running for LI native James Hagens.
Aren’t most of those guys out 4-6 weeks ish? That’s not LT lol

That's just Lou trying to be sneaky thinking that he'll have a leg up on others if he gives half-truths. I'd be surprised if more than 1 of Pelech, Duclair, & Barzal are back before Jan/Feb.
