Dream on.
Just a pipe dream. The Isles will be too good to get a shot at the 1OA this year and San Jose will wind up with the 3rd or 4th pick in the draft because that’s how the lottery will fall. Columbus will probably win it if I had to make an early guess.

I don't think anyone would be upset about that. I know I'm satisfied with the Celebrini luck, no need to get greedy.

If the Isles somehow found a way to win the lottery and draft Hagens, a few fanbases would cry conspiracy that the draft is rigged.

I can dream of the leafs getting Marner to waive and then trading him for Dobson but it would never happen in a million years.

So the Isles trade away their best young RHD?

Makes sense.

Lou should be shot before that happens.

Then again he’d probably keep kicking.

Is he good at defense at all or is that not his strong point?

A bunch of their fans question what it will take to sign him long term and if it's actually worth it given his defensive liabilities vs the potential windfall that could be gotten for trading him now, so it's understandable somewhat

Marner as a UFA vs Dobson as a RFA after this year does not line up. Marner waiving his NMC is only one layer to it. Both players come with extensions? That's easier said than done. If Marner leaves Toronto, I bet you he chooses a team on the west coast so he don't have to play against the Leafs that much.

What does the Islanders D look like without Dobson on the RD side? I think some Islanders fans are exaggerating his defensive liabilities as a 24 year old D man.

Fun to talk about it but he's going nowhere IMO. He's staying in NY

Ya, I agree, but in fairness Lou had saddled them with a bunch of long deals I didn't like the day they were signed, Engvall chief amongst them, so I can understand their trepidation

They will unload other contracts and pay a price to do that before they trade Dobson IMO. It's not easy to find a young RD like that and trading him would leave a massive top 4RD hole.

Granted, but given the makeup of that team, I would wanna fire Lou into the sun & blow it all up, so he would fetch an absolute king's ransom were they to go that route... which they won't, lol

Even if Marner agreed, the last thing Islanders should do is trade Dobson for a pending UFA. What reason does Marner have to sign for Islanders? I don't think Islanders are in a position to leave the success of the season as something that will determine Marner signing with the organization.

Last season he had lapses, this season has been one big lapse. The isles are currently missing all three of their starting left side defensemen, and Dobson has been playing 25 mins a night with a 20 year old fourth round pick (who honestly has been great), but the gaffes started from game one. It's possible he snaps out of it and is just regular not great a defense again, but this year he's been a liability.

Yea by no means do I want to trade Dobson but some of the mistakes are getting to me. I'm still willing to give him around $8mil but offensive defenseman his age could easily ask for more. If he starts to push for double-digits than I'm personally out. A team would need cap space along with a young RHD defenseman coming back. The only possible teams I could think of are Columbus (Jiricek), Canadiens (Reinbacher), & possibly the Kings (Clarke) but he could be a stretch. Other than that, there's no way I'm trading him without getting a younger talented RHD in return.

Last year when the Isles had injuries, Dobson stepped his game up and looked like a gem. A first pairing offensive RHD.

This year, the injury bug has been worse on the defensive side and he has most definitely not raised his game. I can live with average defensive skills but he hasn’t even given us that. My biggest surprise and concern is that the offensive side of his game has declined. He has one goal (an empty netter) and 7 assists in 18 games with a team second worst -5 plus/minus.

I’m not ready to give him away by any means except for an NHL ready top four RHD. I’m not sure a trade like that exists out there. The bigger problem is if he holds out for a long-term deal at a $9 million or more AAV. Frankly, he hasn’t earned it and that has the potential to be an albatross long-term.

Dobber isnt handling the puck with the same skill as last season . I suspect a lingering wrist issue .
Watch him play a game or two once Pelly and Romanov come back and then go onto IR with an upper body injury. Lou then gets to keep all his Ducks in a row essentially.
