"Timely offense" in this case is just a deflective way of describing that this team gives up too many goals too easily and quickly. The Flames tied the game two f***ing minutes after the Devils went up 1-0. You wanted them to get the 2-0 lead within that time span? Does that sound reasonable?

I think I prefer this to him trying to move deck chairs on the Titanic. Injuries piled up so quickly and the team just wasn’t ready to play. I think not firing Lindy is 100% on him and wrong but moves outside that it’s hard to explain.

You have said 'this season is over' a lot, including last year after 2 losses. I won't argue with people whose cope is to be the most negative version of yourself.

The defense is not trash, and there isn't a country club. This team can still make the playoffs. They do need a goalie, though.

No doubt I'm overly pessimistic. But it's an incredible long shot to make the playoffs at this point. Truly.

The defense is trash. Not the players, but the concept. I don't know how you can watch guys wide open in the slot over and over and over and think otherwise. And yes, it is a country club. There is little accountability aside from a couple whipping boys. Hell, Ruff even openly defended Toff during one of his absolute worst stretches asking us to "consider the situations he's putting him in."

The team is good. The players are good. To take the next step we need to move on from young-player development to accountability and attention to detail. These are not Lindy's strong suits and it's been proven over and over again in his coaching career.

But it's just too late this season. It's clear Ruff is not going anywhere. There is no goalie out there to save us from all the injuries and the wild D scheme.

A handful of things can be true:

1. Fitz bears responsibility for not acting sooner on Ruff / Goalie.

2. Fitz got us here and deserve a lot of rope given the young core.

3. 23-24 is probably a lost season and trying to double down on an outside playoff chance is a mismanagement of assets.

4. I’ll be in Raleigh cheering on this team Saturday.

I'm all for calling this out when it actually happens, but how do you classify any of the goals tonight as "garbage time" when the Devils were within one or two goals the entire time? This only makes sense in situations when they're getting shithoused.

Any time you are down 2 or more with less than 10 minutes to play, imo. But that's just an opinion. It's impossible to actually quantify, like a lot of advanced stats are in games like hockey.

the moral of the story is when the goalie allows 2-3 stinkers EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. you are not going to overcome that over the long haul. Its impossible.

Sorry to say, it is never about the goalie it is about who hired him. We love Fitz but he hired Vanacek to back up Blackwood who Fitz inherited from Shero.

We need two goalies not one.
