Because we should have been up 2 or 3 goals in the early part of game. And it would have had very different momentum swings. Goaltending sunk it ultimately.. though
Again, who cares? It's one game where they "only" scored an average amount of goals. Most games they score more than that. And it's still enough to get a point, and definitely enough to get a win if the play in the DZ is solid and the goaltender isn't straight up garbage.

This team gives up 4 goals per game. FOUR!!! How about we get ONE game...just ONE...where the D or goalie bails out the offense instead of demanding the offense be 80's oilers good every single game??

Being strongly on Fitz side. He has a stacked lineup, it's his choice to fire Ruff. This season is totally lost by keeping him employed. You gotta pivot in hard times. That's why Lou had 3 cups. He literally fired a coach in a cup winning season. Fitzgerald refuses to fire a coach with a stacked team outside of the playoffs. It's a loser mentality.
Ok champ.

Devils really didn’t give up too many crazy scoring chances tonight. Two of the goals on vitek were just horrible and that was the difference. Devils played a good enough game to win

Idk why everyone is overanalyzing the game when its that simple

The OOT is a horror show tonight.

But for people who want Ruff gone, I gotta imagine too bad of a record with healthy guys back probably sticks a fork in him.

It's just too bad Fitz waited until the season is gone.

I'm not going to give a shit about a new coach or winning streak in March when it won't matter. And I'm certainly not going to be anywhere near as excited for next season as I was this one.

I don't think it's a loser mentality. But I think it's a soft mentality. He is getting to the point of loyal to a fault. And yeah, Lou would have axed Ruff. But again, I can at least see the logic. Ruff is coming off a record season. It's incredibly difficult to fire a coach mid season after that. Should he have fired him before things fell apart completely? Yes. Should that be held against him? Absolutely. But at least I see the logic.

Fire Fitz crew is so far out there I can’t believe it’s a real opinion.

He has built one of top contenders for the next decade. Happy to be openly critical of moves like not firing Ruff and Dave Rogaine and failing to address goalie but he has done SO MUCH more good than bad.

You can't both criticize Fitz for having a stacked roster (that he built) and failing. The criticism is fair that he hasn't forced a firing of the goaltending coach because WHY NOT, it costs little to nothing to do. And hiring buddy Travis was hockey nepo crap that I didn't like. And yeah, Ruff firing would kick this team in the butt but I'm not sure who is out there like Montgomery or Cassidy or Brunette.

Tonight was rough. I really don't remember a "tough" save that Vitek made in the first two periods

Need to trade for a goalie if we hope to make it. But how much do you want to give up, and who exactly are you getting back?

I still say Kahk.
They roughly have about a 20 percent chance of making the playoffs depending on what site you look at and at this point they are better off losing as many games as possible and possibly using that high pick as trade bait for a goaltender worth a dam

So many people seem to prefer a situation like the Isles, which is wild to me.

To be fair, Vanacek did have two amazing saves this game that were huge but he also allowed 3 very bad ones, and didn't help any with the stinker bouncing in the crease that went through him either.

58% deserve to win... if you buy the meter (eh)... but frustrating.

Would that not have to have been agreed upon when you bought tickets this year?
I definitely was not told about an auto renewal and last season had no such thing. Last year we had a portal where we had to re-confirm our tickets etc

Somehow trying to lump in playoffs as well - who the hell approved that

If this is the Sharangovich chance you're thinking of, at the tail end of the 4 minute power play, I don't think that was actually on net.

I respect you as a poster. You're one of the few good ones here. But we gotta pivot and not wait, fire Ruff. It's so simple.

That stuff means nothing.

Especially if we trade for a good goalie.

It's literally not the facts. And you're literally the only one who thought Vanacek was traded for and signed for $3.4M to be the f***ing backup. At best they hoped for a platoon but I think they realized Blackwood was likely cooked and/or too injury prone to continue here.
Ray Sheri hired Blackwood. Fitz extended Blackwood's contract said he would be the solid of the Devils.
Fitz hired Vanacek as backup to Backwood.

Learn you NJ Devils history before you speak.

When did I say goaltending or D wasn't a problem. It is major key problem. No one is disagreeing with that. We aren't also getting timely offense when it matters early either.
