I have to say….i really enjoy teams not so subtly telling the league their finals schedule goes way too f***ing long and it’s the off-season now.
The two days off between games is really keeping this series from holding my attention, but maybe that is just me. Maybe the rest of the league is playing by "no tradesies on gamedays" at this point.

PLD is capable of putting up 50-70 points but they're the most empty points you can expect. He will always give zero effort, will provide absolutely no defense, and will drain the life out of the ice every moment he is out there. If a team wins a cup with him I'll eat my hat. He is the equivalent drinking 100 diet Cokes a day, just an absolute waste. Biggest boat anchor in the league. Watching him play will show you someone go through the motions of a job they absolutely hate and loathe because it provides them a guaranteed lottery ticket for the rest of their life and they are counting the days until retirement.
Capable maybe but I bet $50 he won't break 50 points in the season.

I can't think of the Kings as winners regardless of how PLD's career goes.

They've now given up Iafallo, Vilardi, Kupari and a 2nd for Kuemper and one bad year of Dubois.

For the Caps, they win the trade if PLD lives up to his contract. Which if I'm being honest, isn't totally unlikely with the cap going up and the kid growing up.
Remember that 2nd is what they got for Durzi. So it's actually worse.

He was an absolute joke in the playoffs. I'm baffled that a GM could watch this guy and want 7 more years at $8.5m/yr of that. I'm in utter disbelief, congrats to you guys.
His contract is almost as bad as Nurse's, maybe there's hope yet.

Darcy Kuemper was benched from the All Star break, until the playoffs. Lindgren played on back to back nights, playing Kuemper was never a consideration.

The Kings just acquired a goaltender making $5.25m for 3 more years. He is absolutely unplayable. Whatever the Kings fans thought about their goaltending, this makes them worse.

PLD for the first 3 years will cost 3.250M$ to the Caps (his AAV - Darcy's)
The Salary cap will continue to increase and maybe we will reach 100M€ in 3 seasons.

I don't know the guy but a change of scenery must be good.

Strome was also done per HFB and now he's 1C in Washington.

Yeah, they saved 3.25m the next 3 years and $8.5m the next 5 years unloading a guy who was a complete zero when it counted after a moderate amount of empty points in the regular season. Hard to spin this trade as anything but a massive wins for the Kings.
As a fan of a rival team, this doesn't make me happy.

Yeah looks stupid and he was an absoolute joke and fraud this season but I wouldn’t be surprised if he turns into some value. Still don’t like the move for them

Possibly controversial opinion. All bad teams should play all offense to give their fans something to enjoy and pump up their forwards trade value, rather than playing defensively to try and finish 21st instead of 24th.
That ends up happening through teams hiring one-dimensional players, like Beaulieu or Domi, in the hopes of squeezing a little bit more offense out of them and hoping team defensive play makes up for their deficiencies.

I actually consider that there's a whole category of players who have to be seen as "not playoff worthy", because they can't fill important roles on a playoff team, but they can still have nice numbers and fill important roles on lesser teams.

I don't understand why the Caps would do this.
they must really believe in PLD. i mean the dude is very talented, he looked pretty good in the IIHFWC - had 9 points in 10 games, and the potential is there. he just....doesnt really put any effort in most of the time. maybe the Caps think he's still teachable. IF they can get him to play to at least 75% of his potential, its a homerun but that is one colossal 'if'

This one actually makes a great deal of sense. For the next two to three years, the Washington Capitals exist to aid Ovechkin in his quest to break Gretzky's record, and then will be poised to begin a five year rebuild.

Bringing in a cheap top line player, even if he's a headcase who doesn't actually help you win, is perfect as, if he meshes with Ovechkin, they've improved their odds to achieve that goal.

Are the Kings tanking for 3 years? Kuemper is a tank worthy goaltender.

PLD had good years in Winnipeg. It seems he didn’t want to sign there, so they traded him.

No idea what happened in LA, and yes, this is a risk for Washington. But Kuemper is absolutely awful. A team trying to make the playoffs cannot play Kuemper. Carberry refused.

It could end up being a win for both teams. Capitals getting a high-end player (perhaps overpaid and inconsistent, but still) and LA getting a replacement-level goalie but saving a boatload of cap room.

Trades aren't a zero-sum game: both teams can win a trade, and both teams can lose out on the same trade.
