Would you trade Stutzle for Matthews?

I'm not a Leafs fan......... Matthews was on pace for 118 points or so last season since he missed games due to injuries. According to... Math, that's a different level of production. I don't know where Stutzle peaks which is why I originally asked whether people thought he had the same potential. Scoring was not where it is now when Matthews was that age so clearly there will be a difference. Stutzle might somehow be as good as a player with one of the best goal scoring seasons since Ovi. But until he does it, it's laughable to assume he will....

Fair enough but by that logic, Matthews is still on another level considering he paced for 118 points or so last season barring injuries. That's not a level I've heard Stutzle being on.

You're cherry picking. If Stützle is in the ball park of 1.45 or AM's other years, he's on the same strata.

AMs next best season is 1.27. If TS has multiple seasons between 1.27 and 1.45 are you seriously saying TS is less than? Sorry but that logic is ignorant.

I don't think that's cherry-picking. There's no guarantee he takes his game to another level like that. If he does then sure, I agree with you. But usually, you don't bet potential vs current level of play. That's all I'm saying. I could very well be wrong; and if he improves to that degree, I'll accept that.

Anyone that said NO is just lying to themselves... any GM would make that deal, even if Matthews was a pending UFA.
player vs player they are on completely different levels.

I initially voted 'No' but changed it to Yes.

Elite franchise centers never come on the market. When they do you have to spring for them. Even if they're having a down year.

Matthews as the #1C in Ottawa in most years would certainly mean they're a lock for the playoffs.

Yes the contract and term. But I still take that risk. You always need to take the franchise #1C
Stutzle is very much on track to be a franchise 1C

He's already better than Matthews at everything anyway. Just you wait until he can grow facial hair, Austin will be shameful.

I don't know. He has spelt it every way but correctly in the past.

This being my favorite

To be fair, Methot has a very low on and off ice IQ. Tough to take anything he says seriously.

As for the question I think Matthews will always be a far better player. Contracts do make it tighter, but I always go for the better player.

Wrong he doesn’t,
just don’t like his chirps,

Inspiration:

Stutzle: Just turned 21, signed for 8 more years at 8.35 AAV.

31G - 35A - 66P (23PPP) - 59 GP

Matthews: 25 years old, signed for 1 more year at 11.64 AAV.

29G - 33A - 62P (21PPP) - 57 GP

I would not trade my wife for the hottest supermodel centre out there.

The difference is do I want to build a team or have one player with a big contact that might leave in a year.

If contract term was similar, this would be more difficult for me. But Ottawa would never do this.

First, because you have way better cap management with Stutzle than you do with Matthews. And the biggest reason is that Matthews wouldn't be resigning in Ottawa. So trade away a 1st line player with a friendly contract for one year of a rental who's contract will make you lose one extra valuable team building piece.

I can understand why Leafs fans wouldn't trade Matthews. But from a Sens perspective, trading Stutzle for Matthews makes zero sense.

Really? The season Ovechkin put up 109 points at age 25? You have a weird revisionist history.
That would be the year after that season for 25 for OV. OV is 24 in the 109 point season.
24 years old was his last highest point season.

Probably check facts before dissing the guy.

Dont think many Gm:s would trade Stutzle for AM, perhaps someone shortsighted. Bad management.

AM will cost 14-15 m i Think, 6-7 m more then Stutzle a season, for a pure elite scorer who has been pretty cold this season.

Ny biggest concern around AM is that he has already has had surgery on both his shoulders, he has a problem to stay healthy.
A high risk to sign him to a albatross contract in ny book.

I mean , sure, believe as you will, but one day you will realize the only thing laughable here is your way off take.

Will revisit in a year on this conversation

Yes, without a doubt. I'll deal with his contract situation later.
It's so funny scrolling on the home board, seeing you are the most recent reply on a thread like this, and chuckling to myself as I click through to see you post exactly what I knew you would.
