Id say the previous 3 seasons (before this one) were definitely better than Stutzle this season

Depends if you see Mattnews this year as his norm or not

Even if he does re-sign you're looking at a ~$5M dollar difference in cap hits
Stutzle wasn't in the NHL 3 seasons before his 3rd NHL season...

Nevermind if Matthews is the norm...did you think stutzle in his rookie or sophomore year would be his norm?

Obviously not
Let assue Matthews produce 10-20% more and that even is not guarantee, his cap his is expected to be 50%+ higher
And of top of that you can expect to Stutzle to produce on high level for 4 more years because of age difference.
Stutzle/Hughes are arguably most valuable forward assets in NHL behind McDavid.

No and its entirely location related. There is NO way that Matthews would extend in Ottawa for that matter anywhere in Canada except Toronto. So its giving up 8 yrs of a homegrown topline center who is still developing and fits with what the Sens are trying to accomplish for 1 year of a top 5 center.

I haven't seen him play with his pants down, but with his pants up he's an incredible hockey player.

He's quite obviously trolling leafs fans on Twitter. He occasionally does that. He intentionally made those mistakes.
Is he intentionally stupid as well or is that the result of too many headshots ala kypreos

Matthews is going to get 14 million his next contract because Dubas, and American players generally get overpaid to play in Canada. Stutzle is close enough to him IMO that its not even a close call. I take Stutzle at 8+ over Matthews at 13+ all day. So no. I wouldnt trade Stutzle for Matthews even if Matthews was signed for another 8 years.

Is his Ceiling as high as Matthews' though? Maybe I'm wrong but I consider Matthews's season this year to be more of an anomaly than the norm. His past 3 seasons were pretty consistent as far as his pace is concerned. I expect him to rebound next year
If this word has to be used every time for years when describing a player there is a problem

I get the argument as far as contracts go so no need for discussion there. I'm simply asking whether Stutzle is as good as Matthews given the fact that they're being compared

Pace doesn't have to be used constantly considering he outscored players regardless of his pace. My point is that he scores points at a higher level and is an efficient player. Injuries and shortages (due to covid) happen which affects totals, but the quality of play is reflected in pace relative to 82 games. He won a hart and 2 richards (and was 1 goal away from a 3rd) regardless of pace so it's not a useless talking point.

Inspiration:

Stutzle: Just turned 21, signed for 8 more years at 8.35 AAV.

31G - 35A - 66P (23PPP) - 59 GP

Matthews: 25 years old, signed for 1 more year at 11.64 AAV.

29G - 33A - 62P (21PPP) - 57 GP

Stutzle plus what?

You kinda left out all the hardware.

Stützle has 97 points in the last 82 games he has played, and he also has a good two way game and plays on the pk constantly. He just turned 21 2 months ago.
So even ignoring the contract there is an argument for taking Stützle over Matthews, especially considering age.
