Would you trade Stutzle for Matthews?

But that isn't the case. Stützle has been more important for Ottawa this season than Matthews has been for Toronto, Stützle is also outscoring Matthews while playing on a far worse team and he has been third in scoring since turning 21 in January, right behind McDavid and MacKinnon. He also is tied 4th in points since 1/1/23.

While I do agree that Matthews is the better player right now simply due to the fact that he has proven to be so for multiple years whereas Stütze hasn't, it is totally legit to point out that Stützle has had the more impressive season this far and not just that, but also has put up the 6th best season as a 20yo of all active NHL players point per game wise, also beating Matthews.

I don't know dude, Stutzle has a .07 higher points per game than Matthews this season and he's -2 to Matthews +31. Matthews is a dominant two-way player.

If you OTT you don’t do it because Matthew would leave after is contract is done, if your Toronto you don’t because you don’t need more Stutzle isn’t the kind of guy that you need to get over your playoff hump…

It's a good question. Matthews has the track record of high level play, Stuetzle is breaking out this year.

They play a different style game so different folks would prefer either.

I'm sure Leafs fans wouldnt trade Matthews for him, and Sens fans vice versa if that means anything.

When looking at his playoff stats, I can't think of a more overhyped player in NHL history than Mr. Matthews. The market you play in truly dictates your perception.
Post Stutzle‘s playoff stats since that seems to be your issue with Matthews.

There no right or wrong answer here bu once Matthews new contract is signed he probably Makes more then Stutzle and Chychrun. Even if Matthews returns to last year form I would take a #1C and a #1D over him.
Where did the #1 dman come from? You referenced Chychrun than magically a top dman showed up in the equation.

Of course not. There’s no way Matthews re-signs in Ottawa, and even if he did I’d rather have Stutzle at 8M than Matthews at 13M.

Especially since I think the estimates in the thread are conservative. Im guessing Matthews aav is 14

You are talking like Stutzle needs to be the best player in the league to be a better choice than Matthews. He doesnt
He pretty much has to be a top 3 or 4 amd he isn't...great player but its kot reality

You're having difficulty putting together a coherent sentence. I don't think there's any point in continuing trying to explain things. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Matthews outperformed McDavid? When did that happen?
What are these statistics that show Matthews ahead of Ovie as the greatest goal scorer in the modern era?
Clearly, you had a year off. Matthews was the games best player and best scorer last year and out performed everyone including McDavid. Iam not a leaf fan but this was obviously to anyone , even the blind . This season McDavid upped him game amd it will be his trophy bur we know that AM34 is capable as he has did it. He is only one of a very few capable of winning a hart or rocket from McDavid..the list is less than 4

Ofcourse i would. Players like Matthews don't come around often. Tim will never sniff 50 goals, let alone 60!
Stutzle has more chances of hitting 50 than Matthews has at scoring 60 again. Stu is at pace for nearly 45 goals right now. I don't see 50 goals impossible. He also passes on shooting a lot more than Matthews does.

It’s great having an exciting player like Matthews but where does he go in the playoffs? When the going gets tough the tough get going. in the playoffs he’s ordinary. It makes it impossible to justify that type of salary with that kind of play. If you don’t show up and you have that salary the weight of playoff failure is on your shoulders.

Enjoy the regular season success.

And Fans of Toronto said the same about McDavid. How is that looking now? Fans like to set limits on what a player will become and none of us know. No one thought Tkachuk would get 100 points and he is likely to do it for the 2nd year in a row. Tim is still a young player and is close to 40 goals this year. Draisaitl was a real good one. Had a fan say he is a 40 point player with out McDavid and now he close to 50 goals for his 3rd time. All us fans can do is make an educated guess. Absolutes rarely work out.

Lmao, One team is +50 , one team is -10, one player PKs one doesn’t.
I would recommend not using stats. Since it appears you don’t how to use them.

This is rich coming from one of the worst posters on the board who has nothing but bad takes on Leafs players.

First of all Matthews is leading the team in +/- and has twice the +/- of the 5th best player Marner, and 5 players on Ottawa have a higher +/- than Stutzle.

"He plays on the PK" random 4th liners play on the PK...

Name 1 player who was more disproportionately hyped than Matthew's. One.
how many of these vs threads has Matthews lost here on HF since he joined the league?
I wouldn't really say Matthews is over hyped. He's more so one of the most disrespected stars in the league or atleast around here he is.
if Matthews wasn't having an offseason do you think Methot would have posted what he did?

This isn’t a who is better thread. It’s who would you rather have at their respective and anticipated salaries moving forward. I think you’d get an almost unanimous decision from GMs across the league on this one.

In a hypothetical world where players could be switched at this very second the Sens would not trade Stu and the Leafs would not trade Matthews. Matthews likely doesn't re-sign in Ottawa and doesn't do anything to help the Sens get in the playoffs at this point where Matthews is far more prepared to help the Leafs in the playoffs then this current version of Timmy.

If this question were to be posed in the off-season, especially if the Leafs fail in the playoffs again, I expect both teams would elect to take Timmy rather easily.

What a stupid comment lol. Stutzle isn't as good as Kerfoot then either because Kerfoot has career .43 Playoff PPG, Stutzle is 0.00, herpy derpy.
I didn't say that, in fact I didn't compare Stutzle to any player. My response was to a poster who using Matthews playoffs scoring against him to try and frame the argument he is not an elite player and worth the money. If that is your take than you should factor in the playoff stats from the other player that the poster was directly comparing Matthews against.

Does that make sense to you?
