Thought McDavid would have a tougher first year transition than Eichel. Never thought Eichel
Was the better player, just thought coming from College he would start better. Dead wrong

It maybe wasn't a 'take' per se, but my biggest goof in my keeper league was deciding Jere Karalahti was a star after watching him for the first time. Circa 1999, I'm in college without TV access. I come home for winter break and see this Kings/Oilers game. In the game, I catch my first glimpse of Karalahti and he scored a pair of goals (including a slapper that Al MacInnis would have been proud of), throws a couple ferocious open ice hits, and logs 25 minutes of ice time.

Karalahti had just recently joined the Kings and now had 5 points in 4 games. I decided that I absolutely needed to trade for him. I ended up trading another older rookie NHL D, some guy named Brian Rafalski to get Karalahti. Pretty sure I included a pick or something extra too. Whoops.

I thought Alex Galchenyuk would be good for Pittsburgh. Not Phil Kessel good, but a decent top 6 wing.
On Pittsburgh, I really thought Christian Ehrhoff would be a 50+ point defenceman again for them after putting up a decent amount of points on those god awful Sabres teams. Wonder what went wrong.

I said Henrik Borgstrom should end up being a 60-70 point per season player.

Before HFBoards, I was a huge Marty Havlat fan, and when the Blackhawks signed Marian Hossa and let Havlat go I was bitter and thought he would be a bust of a signing.

You have hundreds of wrong posts about Florida so saying you have thousands in general is a pretty easy bet.

Like I said, that's hockey. Who predicts a non remarkable team to be gifted a playoff spot by TWO different teams failing to close out their seasons, one of which was against a team last in the NHL for them to make the playoffs (on the back of an AHL goalie as well who was playing unreal), and then when his hot streak runs out, Bob actually is an NHL goalie again for 10 games and carries the team far deeper than they deserved to be.

Once he came back down to earth they made the Knights look like they belonged in a different league.

Is what it is man. We're halfway to a new season where we can argue about new things. Can't wait.

I remember in the middle of the 2005-2006 season, Pierre McGuire was asked who he would build around. The choices were 3 super rookies - Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, and Dion Phaneuf.

"No disrespect to the other guys but this has to be Dion Phaneuf."

Wonder if he regrets that take?
Crazy thing is that wasn't even that crazy a take for like a half season. Phaneuf came on hot with his big shot and goal scoring from the blue line and his monster hits. He played for a Canadian team too, so you know how that goes... His hype did fizzle out though and then like a couple years later, he was number 1 on everyone's "most overrated" list.

Pretty sure I argued that Drouin was going to be better than Kucherov back when he was drafted
The number 3 overall pick being regarded as better than the 58th overall pick from two years prior that produced a lower PPG in the same Junior league at two years older would not exactly be outlandish of an opinion, it'd likely be a unanimous one. That's like comparing Adam Fantilli to Riley Kidney.

They changed the rules against his playstyle. If he was born 10,15 years earlier he would be in the hall

You would think so, but I remember someone arguing it. It might've actually been in Drouin's D+1 when Kucherov went to Syracuse and ripped it up. I said the same thing, we're talking about one guy who is #3 OA and out produced the other in the same league less than a year ago and is 2 years younger.

The other poster was adamant Kucherov was going to be a superstar, they were actually right

Toronto somehow loses to alot of those. It’s almost like Toronto just isn’t very good? The Knights would have swept Toronto let’s not get that twisted.
