Worse NHL olympics ever?

Are you kidding?

Russia vs. Czechoslovakia?

Both teams playing five man defensive hockey?

Sounds like your memory is fuzzy.

It's ok, happens to the best of us.

You're putting a "=" between low-scoring hockey and lack of effort/activity. A perfectly understandable mistake for rookie hockey fans, you'll learn someday. I look the game beyond number of goals scored, some of the best hockey games ever have been very tight, defensive games with little scoring.

Well, that's Tre Kroner's issue then.

Canada was hardly mailing it in.

It's ok, you can see what you want to see.

You can relax now, Canada won the gold, no need for insecurity anymore.

International ice is not the offensive juggernaut that people thinks it is, and I am glad that myth has been exposed.

That myth has been exposed a long time ago.

I thought it was exciting. Maybe because I'm Canadian.

But if I were a neutral fan, yes it would be boring, especially if you compare it to CAN vs USA in Vancouver.

Defense got it done, and that's how you win the tournament. Go Canada Go!

On big ice and in Sochi not an exciting combination .... this Olympic final was nothing compared to 2010 on an NHL ice rink in Canada were the crowd was actually cheering

Spoken like someone who didn't watch the game.

When you have two teams sitting back in the neutral zone, it is even more boring than a game where at least one team Is in the offensive zone.

I know you really want this final to be the worst, but it is a distant second AINEC.

Meh, I think I will enjoy it a bit longer.

Plus, Russia and the USA shut out of the medals.

Kind of an added bonus.

If anything, it was the lack of effort when it counted from these two teams when it mattered that made the tournament a let down.

And yet it comes up again every four years.

The most boring tournament and final ever. I find it ironic that some posters are blaming lesser countries of playing defensive hockey. Canada played very suffocating defense as well.
We did what we had to do to win. The semi-final against the US easily could have gone like 1998 (1-1 tie through overtime against a goalie playing nearly perfect) if they hadn't been so committed to D.

It was exciting because it's the Olympics. But if I was not a Canada fan I would probably say it was a very average game. Sweden did not really provide a pushback at any point.

Only because they were like little kids trying to get a puck from grown men.

Oh I watched it, just like every play-off game which mattered (between so-called hockey countries)

Thank you Captain Obvious, I'm sure nobody knew that :sarcasm:

I'm willing to bet that most people disagree with you.

And yet it comes up again every four years.

It does? Can't remember seeing many people claim that here (then again, I haven't read HF boards much during the olympics).

I found Canada immensely entertaining to watch, but the lack of a good challenger kind of made it fall flat compared to the last Olympics. In 2010 with it being on home ice and having our goalie as the starter it felt the same as watching your team in a game 7 Stanley Cup final. We basically had to win, and it game down to a nail biting overtime to seal the deal.

Socchi though? I wasn't the least bit nervous going into the final game, whether we won or lost, and the way Canada played they never gave any reason too, just steamrolled their way right to the finish. Really unfortunate that the Russians couldn't get it together and Sweden was without their 3 top centers.

I suppose Canada beating Latvia 8-1 would've been more exciting?

Hockey's always been a defensive game (the 80s notwithstanding) and it's no different here. The only way a country like Latvia or Switzerland can compete is by clogging up the neutral zone and playing defensively. What else do you expect them to do?

Horrible tournament, as a Canadian, the skill disparity was too large no one else was even close. Most boring final, most boring game against the States, worst tournament Ive had the displeasure to watch AINEC(first applicable use).

It was boring because Canada is so dominant.

We don't need to prove it anymore at this level.

Feels great when you dominate the whole tournament, I but I can see why others found it boring - Had a great time with friends/family/strangers, they didn't look bored nor did they complain about the "lack of excitement".

Yeah, the big ice seemed to really kill the offense. And I've always heard that it'd allow the game to open up, when in reality, it kind of just shifted it to the side, while clogging up the front of the crease. Just not enjoyable hockey to watch, even with the best of the best playing their hearts out.

Canada was too good these games. They gotta start bringing weaker rosters to make the games more exciting.
