Ive heard its actually pretty nuts in Downtown Vancouver so that picture isnt exactly accurate.

I must add that the decline of former European powerhouses definitely didn't help matters as far as entertainment is concerned. The Czechs and Slovaks were just old and sad out there. Russia is still developing young WC talent but their game as a whole sucks.

I personally blame the big ice, it forces teams to play trap hockey, and play defensively. Small ice would make it intense and exciting.

Except Canada didn't trap anyone. They dominated the puck all over the ice. I don't think I've ever seen a team have more offensive zone time than Canada did in this tournament.

This is the most dominant a team has been in Olympics. I guess you can say it was a bit boring because no one other than Latvia was even close.

Exactly. Canada had a relentless forecheck.

Typical Canadian mentality.

Canada wins: We're just too good.

Canada lose: It's just one game. Terrible by the players.

Fact is.

This game was exciting for One and a half period. Then Sweden really struggled with getting anything to work and Canada played great defensive hockey through all of the tournament. Kind of un-typical Canada really. Usually great offensively.

But we are just too good.. We just dominated the whole tournament and won another gold. You're saying it like it's a bad thing, do you disagree? I'm not saying it in a condescending way towards the nations we were up against.

Not sure what you're getting at with the second bolded part. Are you referring to our reaction before the Semi/Final game?

It wasn't like that right after the game was it? Bars were packed everywhere here despite it starting at 4am. Also its only 8 in Vancouver right now while its 11 in Toronto. Makes a big difference as to why the celebration ended earlier. Add that to the fact it snowed in the lower mainland. That's enough to scare people so they stay inside. I don't know what I'm arguing right now anyway. I think people coast to coast felt the same amount of joy.

USA-RUS was definetly the most exciting game of the tournament, after that...well, pretty much nothing...

actually CAN beating USA in women's hockey for Gold was the most exciting moment really if you think about it

You were the best team, and in several periods of each game, you dominated. As one of the best teams in the World should. Just like in all other sports.

But to say it was was so much better than all other teams is kind of strange when one wins several games with one goal. One goal win vs Finland after OT, one goal win vs. Latvia, one goal win vs. USA.

Now, there is no doubt about being the best team, but dominated is pushing it. At least to me, one should win with several goals in most of the games to claim that. But that is my personal opinion.

The other bold part is a reference to the 2006 Olympics and several World Championships.

It was text-book hockey from Canada. If you were expecting a reality TV-show then you'd be disappointed but if you want to see an amazingly skilled team then it was pretty impressive.

Back to back gold medals with best on best on two different ice surfaces. And Canada had a dominating defense on the big ice.

Make no mistake, Canada could have won this game no matter how Sweden wanted to play it. They toyed with all opponents this tournament. They are the best run and gun team by a large margin, they are the best intelligence team by a much larger margin and they are the best defensive team by a ridiculous margin.

Nobody can touch Canada right now except Canada 2 and Canada 3. That's a tough fact to absorb but a fact nonetheless.

Sweden started playing like USA as soon as Canada established their elite defensive wall and puck possession abilities a little earlier than half-way through the first period. If you've been consistent watching the Canada games this tournament, you could tell that once that play is established, Canada is in complete control and pretty much dominates the game from there on out. I don't want to sound cocky, but the game gets boring once they do this because their defense just lets absolutely nothing through and you can safely assume that their elite puck possession game will give them plenty of scoring opportunities and eventually they'll pot a few in while the other team's offensive abilities will slowly sufficate as Canada gradually takes more control over the game until the other team doesn't even feel confident with the puck anymore since Canada has controlled it more than 70% of the game.

Well yeah it was no doubt boring. For reason or another I have been very underwhelmed about all the games out of Canada vs USA and Finland vs Russia personally.
Have had much more fun watching other olympic events than hockey.

Final I did not bother to watch all the way after 3rd goal.

Canada was too good these games. They gotta start bringing weaker rosters to make the games more exciting.

Or how about instead of thinly veiled sarcasm, your powerhouse of a nation is matched up against more difficult opponents than Norway and Austria in prelims? Such a predictable Olympics that left the best nations with the most rest. USA benefited from it and I am still complaining. The Olympic Hockey system makes it even easier on teams that need no breaks whatsoever.

Canada got a 6.0 for technical merit but only a 5.1 for artistry. Not worthy of gold imo. They should have hotdogged it. And Olympic judging is tainted.

Canada is in a league of their own. I am not surprised it's boring at all. We're just too good right now.

LOL Canadians are the worst winners, much better losers. Team Sweden were too sloppy and maybe shocked by Backstrom story 1 hour before start. But Canada was good today, the better team. Why are you out celebrating? Sore winners! LMAO
