Worse NHL olympics ever?

it wasn't a boring trap style that kept the swedes off the board...it was a general effort by the forwards and the defence to step up and create turnovers in the neutral zone and swedens end. Completely dominant.

I am a Canadian and perhaps my memory is a bit foggy but this has easily been the most boring Olympic tournament since I started following hockey.

I thought the final was GREAT. Screw nail biters. Give me the game being settled long before the final buzzer any day of the week.

When one team has such a gap between the next best teams it has to be expected. This was the most dominant team we have seen since best vs. best started.

It was shades of the Men's curling final - being up 5-1 after 3 ends over Murdoch was a big unexpected WTF!!! The rest was pretty well just playing it out.

Let's just say that if you're fan of the team playing, most of the time you want it to be a one sided game, complete domination (for low heart rates lol). But if you're neutral, you always want exciting back and forth, nail biters.

Horrible tournament, as a Canadian, the skill disparity was too large no one else was even close. Most boring final, most boring game against the States, worst tournament Ive had the displeasure to watch AINEC(first applicable use).

We had a big ice surface killing the offense, smaller stands, a lot of poorly attended games. It was definitely a different atmosphere this time around.

Not a lot of offense from Canada this time, this was all on the team defense. Price barely had to break a sweat all tournament. Well, at least Russian fans won't be able to say anymore that Canada has never won a best on best tournament outside of North America. Canada won it on their soil.

Price made things look easy, but there were some saves that required a prepared mind, such as Zach Parise's tip-in attempt on a feed from Patrick Kane. Price was sharp.

International surface mixed with bad ice made this a challenging tournament to watch. Best game by far was USA/Russia. Only other game that was somewhat compelling was Finland beating Russia, and once the score was 3-1 it went sour with the Russians throwing in the towel.

The last 3 games for Canada were tight, but it was hard to see them losing at any point. Glad they won and all that, but some drama would've been a bit more fun to watch.

This whole tournament cant really be compared to the 2010 one. That was great hockey in almost every game.

Even as a Canadian I found the games lacklustre. Still stoked that we won of course.

As a Canadian the US - Russia game was the best of the Olympics. Canada was just so far ahead of everyone the won gold without breaking a sweat and it was boring as a result.

Whether it's the big ice, Canada's dominance, Sweden's passive style, injuries etc. but my god, this final is like NHL pre-season game in terms of entertainment. If you didn't know this was the final game, you most certainly couldn't tell it by watching. Pretty much zero effort, activity etc.

Perhaps a fitting end to a very underwhelming Olympics hockey tournament.

Vancouver 2010 was dynamite from start to finish, Torino 2006 was a nail-biter with huge emotional load, Salt Lake City was great, Nagano 1998 was brilliant...Sotschi 2014...Meh.

Agreed, NONE of the games which were held on Olympic surfaces have provided jack all for entertainment.

If this doesn`t end that ridiculous conversation about the NHL moving to a big surface I don`t know what does. This was, of the 3 games since the NHL players started to play which were played on Olympic ice surfaces, THE WORST and most boring hockey this fan has seen in a long time. Rather watch a Panther`s vs Oilers game in a crackerjack box first

Guess we should bring the Canada B team.. or perhaps an All Ontario team? Just so other nations have a chance/aren't bored. Amirite?

Ridiculous lol.

I'd rather see 2 teams go toe to toe in a battle of will and skill over having the last half of a game limited to jingoistic gloating.

Yay, Canada is the best, we're #1. Boring.

As someone with no rooting interest in the final, I gotta say that it sucked seeing Sweden without all the three guys they have who are legit NHL 1st line C's.... and must have been a kick in the nuts to lose Backstrom just a few hours before the game.

Taking nothing away from Canada - it only underlines their superiority that they are virtually immune to injuries - but it hurt the spectacle a lot.

Full credit to Canada anyway. Total dominance.

I hope this is the end of NHL players at the Olympics and they set up a best on best WC every four years in July just like They do in football/soccer. For one, it allows all teams to practice more together and develop more chemistry; something that would definitely have improved the quality of the games. The only memorable game of this tournament was USA/Russia, considering all the talent that was there, that's quite pathetic.

To a point. Stamkos, Tavares and Giroux are comparable to Zetterberg, H. Sedin and Backstrom and better than Koivu, Koivu, Filpulla and Barkov, but Canada has more depth to deal with those injuries (or 'snubs'), so the players brought in as replacement are much better for Canada.

Minus the injuries, I don't think Canada losing to either Finland or Sweden (or the US) would be an upset per se, but factoring in the injuries there were, it would have been considered a choke IMO.
The point of the post you're replying went over you head.

Typical Canadian mentality.

Canada wins: We're just too good.

Canada lose: It's just one game. Terrible by the players.

Fact is.

This game was exciting for One and a half period. Then Sweden really struggled with getting anything to work and Canada played great defensive hockey through all of the tournament. Kind of un-typical Canada really. Usually great offensively.
