The Othmann cometh. Beauty hit.
He made another along the wall in the last 2 minutes of the period that the camera barely caught. You could see the Swiss player react surprised at the force. It's exciting to see. And if he picks his spots, he can be like a Trouba at forward.

The one thing I see in Othmann's game that I can see being an issue is that he glides a bunch out there. He takes too long to get to the right spots without the puck. He sorta does that thing that young kids who carry their team offensively do where they kinda hang around and glide near the puck but not in a specific position. It's gonna have to get coached out of him. Laffy had a similar issue that he's been slowly working out of his game. My guess is this is why he keeps getting bounced around the lineup. Othmann clearly has the skill. His wheels are certainly fine at this level. And he's got some of the best grit out there. His issue is positioning and play without the puck. I think it's a big work in progress. This is the big hitch in his game that will prevent him from getting proper ice time if he were to somehow make the Rangers. Since he can't go to the AHL this year and work on his positioning, he's gotta go back to juniors. But I'm not sure he's going to learn this aspect in Flint.

Ideally, he'd go to a college team or a European pro team and work on his positioning. But it's likely not going to happen.

I really don't want him learning this aspect on the big team. I think it'll severely limit his development as Gallant would play him sparingly.

Love what i'm seeing from Othmann. Guy can ride shotgun with skilled players, has a cannon and blows people up. Has 6 pts and is a plus 5 in 3 games in the WJC's. Also carried his team in the OHL with 97 pts in 66 games. He just keeps getting better. Easily goes top 10 in a redraft.

I don't think he does. It's looking like a strong class. Top 9 is looking really good. He might bump out Brandt Clarke but that's it. Outside the top 10 there's Cole Sillinger and Wyatt Johnston. Think he's looking like a really strong pick in a good draft.

He's at least in the conversation. Would definitely go over Boucher.

People hated the pick when we made it. Everyone was so pissed that we passed on Lucius and Svechkov.

USA after 35 min or so looks so underwhelming
I feel like this has been my impression very many WJC last dozen years:
European teams get better as tourney goes along.
USA often not.

I dont have explanation.
just deja vu

Will be glad to impressed by bounce back 3rd..

Tom Wilson's name shall never be invoked again. Berard is now the gold standard.
