The Othmann cometh. Beauty hit.
He made another along the wall in the last 2 minutes of the period that the camera barely caught. You could see the Swiss player react surprised at the force. It's exciting to see. And if he picks his spots, he can be like a Trouba at forward.
The one thing I see in Othmann's game that I can see being an issue is that he glides a bunch out there. He takes too long to get to the right spots without the puck. He sorta does that thing that young kids who carry their team offensively do where they kinda hang around and glide near the puck but not in a specific position. It's gonna have to get coached out of him. Laffy had a similar issue that he's been slowly working out of his game. My guess is this is why he keeps getting bounced around the lineup. Othmann clearly has the skill. His wheels are certainly fine at this level. And he's got some of the best grit out there. His issue is positioning and play without the puck. I think it's a big work in progress. This is the big hitch in his game that will prevent him from getting proper ice time if he were to somehow make the Rangers. Since he can't go to the AHL this year and work on his positioning, he's gotta go back to juniors. But I'm not sure he's going to learn this aspect in Flint.
Ideally, he'd go to a college team or a European pro team and work on his positioning. But it's likely not going to happen.
I really don't want him learning this aspect on the big team. I think it'll severely limit his development as Gallant would play him sparingly.
