Fair. Then an insured contract may still be of interest to some. That said, it's not like MTL needs to move Price of the cap and with only one extra season on it, it's not going to be a problem when MTL will need the cap space.

Definitely, we have $15m available for next year with no major signings required. And that includes Price's full cap hit, no LTIR.

Although, we'll probably have a bonus overage due to Hutson, but it shouldn't be that significant.

Once the cap gets to 113.5m it'll be pretty much like the days when there wasn't even a cap, since other than a very few rich teams most teams won't be able to spend close to the max cap amount and a bunch of teams will struggle to even hit the 83.9m cap floor.

Eventually we'll be back to smaller market teams not being able to afford their star players anymore because they can't compete with the rich teams throwing way more money at these players.
Sucks for small markets but I wouldn't mind seeing the Habs have that kind of advantage for once in my life, let's build a dynasty and stomp on everyone. :naughty:

This is a very quick spitball so don't jump on me about the numbers. Just trying to get a rough idea! Somehow got us Nemec (lol) - but insert random 6 million RD in there.

Habs - 2027 - 2028 - 113.5

Caufield (7.75) - Suzuki (7.875) - Slaf (7.6) = 23.25m
Laine (8) - Dach (6) - Demidov (950K) = 14.95m
Heinemen (4.5) - Hage (950K) - Kapanen (2.25) = 7.7m
Tuch (2.2) - Beck (3) - Xhekaj (2.1) = 7.3m

Total for primary forward group = 53.2m

Hutson (10m) - Rein (5.55) = 15.55m
Guhle (5.55) - Nemec (6) = 11.55m
Xhekaj (3.75) - Carrier (4) = 7.75m

Total for primary d men - 33.85 m

Dobes - 6.5
Fowler - 950K

Total for two goalies = 7.45m

Total cap on primary team = 94.5 m

Need 3 more players for 23 man roster and we have 19 million still to spend.

Need cap flexibility when Demidov commands 10+ in 28/29

WE ARE IN EXCELLENT SHAPE

Laine at 8 M ? Dach 6M ? You forgot 5M for Newhook...

Edit: Sorry, I did not read the first part.

This will definitely be a hindrance to some of the rebuilding teams like Columbus and maybe SJ, even though they have a rich owner.

I wonder if this offseason UFA frenzy is gonna get stupid because of this. I'd rather sit it out than get ridiculous with the overpay.

Weird timing to say the least, the CBA and the Canadian TV deal expire after 2025-26. While the value of the tv deal is predictable, they seems to be overly optimistic about the negotiation of the new CBA.

Why would Florida trade a bargain contract that has 5 years left on it after this year.
If they have Barkov/Bennett locked up as their 1C/2C combo for the next few season's then I think there's a chance you could put together enough of a package to grab their attention. If they can slightly downgrade at 3C but get back considerable assets then I don't think it's something they'd immediately hang up the phone on.

It's a hinderance because of cheap ass turd owners. They can all afford to spend to the cap. Who cares if they lose profits. The value of the franchise keeps going up.

If Florida extends Bennett this summer I'd go aggressively after Lundell.
He'd be one of my top 3 targets for potential 2C solutions going forward.
I understand wanting Lundell who, at 23, is still in full progression, trending towards 20 Gs and 31 As for 51 Ps this season. A 50%+ F/O draw and a solid defensive game are the foundation from which he earns his coach's trust and could well play the minutes as a 2nd line C to continue to add to his offensive totals.

However, going aggressively after Lundell, who is signed at a reasonable 5M per season for another 5 years after this season, basically means selling the farm to acquire him.

Whatever transpires, the timing is definitely best during the offseason because Lundell will only become available if FLA extends Bennett and Lundell is stuck in a 3C role at a time where he should be progressing as a 2C.

I think going aggressively after Bennett, a dependable, tenacious 2C once he becomes an UFA as a 29-yr-old is also another option if FLA prefers to go with the younger, more affordable option in Lundell.

Bennett still has some upside, offensively, but not as much as Lundell, IMO. However, Bennett definitely raises the level of his play during the playoffs and, while being the type of player you can count on to help you get into the playoffs, he is also the character player that helps you get through the Spring dance!

I'm a bit torn because a package of a sign and trade candidate in Evans -- who could, however, simply go to FLA as an UFA if a trade is proposed in the offseason -- a first round pick (maybe the one FLA ends up giving us as a return in the complicated CAL deal and a D prospect of either Mailloux or Engstrom might actually be enough value for Lundell if Bennett is FLA's man.

However, Bennet would only cost us Cap space and keep assets that could help us move up for a serious prospect at the 2025 draft.

Either or, for me as I think that Lundell will flourish into a solid shutdown, 2nd line C with offensive upside, the same way I think that Beck will eventually evolve into a solid, shutdown 3C with offensive upside.

In the meantime, a C-line of Suzuki - Lundell - Dach - Beck would be really interesting.

IMO, Montreal needs to acquire a backup solution edging their bets against Dach not becoming a consistent producer in the role of 2nd line C.

The progression of the whole group of forwards, especially with the arrival of Demidov providing strong wingers, overall, for the top-6 (Caufield, Laine, Slafkovsky, Demidov) depends Hughes providing St-Louis with a genuine top-6 C other than Suzuki.

Just hoping that Dach evolves into such a pivot can set us back one year in terms of development as a group, IMO.

League must be getting massive gambling revenue because the league isn’t growing in popularity according to all the stats. Nobody cares about the 4nations , and the center ice package is a joke
