4th Rangers prospect with a 5 min major this tournament.
What a dumb dumb dumb play by Berard. If this new crop of kids makes it to the Rangers we're going to have to learn how to score short-handed because we'll be the most penalized, undisciplined team in the league.

Maybe next draft we get back to drafting skill?

Othmann has a lot of snarl and edge to his game. He’s talked about seeing himself as a Marchand and Tkachuk style player. I love that.

He calls himself a hybrid of Matthew Tkachuk and Kyle Connor.

A new World Juniors record. No NHL team ever had 4 different players with a game misconduct in the same tournament.

Maybe we'll have 9 Matt Cookes.

If we did, part of the fanbase would say the league was persecuting the Rangers.

Here
Whats up with the majors - geeze.

Give credit to the Chechs. They played a tough game inside the dots, good sticks and bodies. Didnt allow USA to get any of their speed and skill going. Big win for them.

USA looked deflated with little life. Hughes injury was a big deal. But the Chechs were frustrating them and they deserved the win. Oh well. They looked so good against Sweden. Hard to put your finger on what happened. Their skills just evaporated overnight. Cant blame the ice.

i don't think this US team was that good. Certainly a huge dropoff from last year's gold medal team thats for sure. Also when was the last time a USA team at any level had good coaching, 1980?

There were a few things that made the US team vulnerable.

While that first line buzzed against most competition, they weren't necessarily elite. Compared to Canada's team who had Kent Johnson, Mactavish and Bedard, the US team was a few levels below that. I'm not sure there was a single US forward that I think is a sure fire future NHL first line player. Even Knies strikes me as a middle six forward at best and he was like there most skilled forward.

But the biggest issue facing the US team was their size. Compared to the other teams in the tournament they were small. The Czechs had a huge advantage in that dept and took away time and space when they got the lead. You could see the US team getting frustrated and also banged up throughout the game. The US team hadn't really played from behind and against a much more stout team it was their achilles heel.

The Berard penalty, as stupid and bad as it was, was a real indication with just how frustrated the US team was. They just couldn't do much once they went down. Of course, Hughes getting banged up really hurt them as it basically took away their most skilled player.

Point being it was not the most well constructed team. Though, there's only so many options year in and year out when picking an age-specific squad.
